Why did the League of Three Emperors fail twice? Documentary

In the late 19th century there were two (almost three) attempts by Germany to build an alliance comprising of itself, Austria-Hungary and Russia with the sole purpose of isolating France. This alliance, the League of the Three Emperors failed to take hold twice but given how strong it would have been why did it fail?

Just to clarify: Alsace/Elsass was essentially German as part of both German Kingdoms as well as the Empire, It was annexed by France graudally after 1648 and then lost to Germany in 1871. So the back and forth did not start with the German annexation in 1871, it just got more frequent. Today it is safely bi-cultural although now more French than German.
If you look at a city like Strassburg in the Alsace (even the name) and a city like Freiburg on the other side of the Rhine in Germany, the similarities are striking.

1: 41 Are locusts just grasshoppers or what?
As a biology major, I actually have the answer: yes and no. they are the same species, but babies who live in low population densities grow into grasshoppers, while babies who live in high population densities grow into locusts.

I wouldn't really say it failed persay because it helped preserve stability in Europe for a time via isolating France and binding nations to Germany, it didn't need to be a permanent arrangement or anything. havent watched the video yet though

Honestly, i think balkans deserves the title graveyard of empires rather than afghanistan.
I mean, every great empire there, fell:
Austria hungary,
Ottoman empire,
Byzantine empire,
Soviet union,
Yugoslavia,
Etc.

reply

The first reason was France:
Oh wow, real shocker.
The second reason was the Balkans:
Damn thats never happened!
The reason for the second break up was the Balkans:
Its always them.

All Ive learned is, Serbia and Bulgaria are massive cnts.
Bulgaria rips peace a new one and Serbia gains independence with Austro-Hungarian aid, only to turn on Austria-Hungary almost instantly.

Bismarck: sorry I don't think we can use you in our alliance.
Some country: but we hate france!
Bismarck: welcome to the club new best friend!

And this sealed the destiny of Germany for the next 100 years. This is why is not a good idea to give up so much power in the hands of so few people.

Sorry my state Bulgaria undid twice this alliance. But on the plus side because of us Serbia and Austro- Hungary became BFFs, right?

one of the main reasons was the emperor of germany not liking bismarck, so he fired him which led to bismarck not beeing able to renew alliances

Why not do a programme on 'The Auld Alliance' between Scotland and France against England, from the thirteenth century to the sixteenth?
reply

The League of the three Emperors was originally known as the Holy Alliance back before Bismarck's time right after the fall of Napoleon.

Sources also state that Bismarck has ordered military leaders to 'dome those French nerds if they try anything. '

Would be interesting to think of a senario where this alliance never ended and survived till the 1900s.
