Otto von Bismarck is famous for being the architect of German Unification and one of the 19th century's greatest political minds. Despite his achievements, when Emperor Wilhelm II took the throne, he soon fired Bismarck. So why did Wilhelm do this to one of Germany's greatest politicians? To find out watch this short and simple animated history documentary. Doctor: Bismarck was a genius. In 1897, Wilhelm II paid him a visit during which Bismarck said: Your Majesty, so long as you have this present officer corps, you can do as you please. But when this is no longer the case, it will be very different for you. The crash will come 20 years after my departure if things go on like this.
Bismarck died in July 1898, Wilhelm II abdicated in November 1918.

Also pretty ironic that Bismarck raised Wilhelm to go against his parents due to their parents liberal views and he dont like it a bit
Sadly Kaiser Frederick died too soon, Bismarck dont have strategy to handle Wilhelm, and Wilhelm dont respect him that much and sadly for Bismarck, inherit his parents view that Chancellor power is too strong and want to replace it (with himself) that he even go all way to try allying with Empress Victoria and the Catholics that he made enemy of to make sure everything to go based on his will. Bismarck is undoubtedly one of the most skillful diplomat and politician but honestly he also no innocent on what makes Germany as it is on that era
On side note, i wonder if Bismarck descendants ever try to help German situation in Great War considering his descendants are all still politician in German until this day

After Bismarck was out as chancellor he became a lot more popular across the conservative and even some liberals and got statues and other stuff erect in his name. That's how people expressed their disatisfaction with the Kaiser without the risk of beeing seen as unpartiotic.

Bismarck forgot how to handle a new boss. Never forget, it doesnt matter how good you were under your old boss. Every new boss sees you as a blank sheet and will treat you as such. either become the boss or prove your worth to every boss you have forever

It would ve been funnier if the resignation scenario played out like this:
Bismarck: I quit!
Wilhelm II: Wait you can t quit!
Bismarck: Ha I knew you d come around!
Wilhelm II: No you don t get it, you can t quit because you re fired!

There really should have been a final what could possibly go wrong style ending statement. With Little Willie now free to do his own thing it set in motion what in German is called the Jahrhundertkatastrophe - the disaster of the (20th) century.

Tbf Bismarck were too conservative to be in charge at coming Imperial era Germany need land under sun to gain resources and she has to be more positive about that so do her Navy
But relationship with UK was a shame in Wilhelm time too

What: no reference to the blood and iron speech? No mention of how Bismarck saw the British and French as jealous of rapid German industrialization and as evil colonial empires? I guess the British patriotic urges impeded your writers!

How much would things have changed if Bismarck was still Chancellor? Since he only would have held on a few more years due to catching a case of the deads. Was half expecting the video to end on that to have the classic falling over part.

Bismarck was honestly one of the greatest 19th century leaders. Wilhelm II was also decent, but just extremely flawed in many ways, this being one of them. He could've waited until Bismarck's health was in decline to dismiss him imo.

Bismarck loved goose liver pate and champagne and cigars. There's a very funny story about all that in Robert K Massey's book dreadnought. I think you guys would get a kick out of it and I'm sure the author here knows all about it.

i have read Bismarck was a massive hypocrite.
He was all for war when it came to expanding German influence early in his career but once he got what he wanted he became anti war as that threatened his captured territory's.

Because of Bismarck's more liberal views and he was a good friend of Wilhelm IT'S father the '99 Day Emperer' who finally became Emporer Friedrich when he was in the middle of dying of stomach cancer? watches video Oh

Just imagine how different entire European history would have been if Frederick III wasn't such a chain smoker and would have been a king/emperor for several decades. Instead, Germany got stuck with the idiot king.
