Why was The Battle of Stalingrad so Deadly?

Why was The Battle of Stalingrad so Deadly? Fascist Germanys blind hatred for Communism led Germany to make the mistake of invading the Soviet Union. It was mostly an emotional decision to invade the Soviet Union. Of course emotional decisions rarely have a good ending. Of course it didnt help that fascism raison de etre is anti Communism. The persecution of opposition parties, jews, unions was all derived from anti Communism. So you could argue that clash between nazi Germany and the ussr was inevitable given that their ideologies were diametrically opposite.\r\n

I really hate it when the video is not really about the title, but a general -let's talk about the general situation. - Here's an outline for a video that answers the title: Detailed description of Stalingrad and important structures, house to house fighting, sewer fighting, engineers and weapons, morale, Commissars, Generals Chuikov versus Paulus, problem of supply, Germans left to die where they stood. You're welcome.

It's funny how this video couldn't resist taking a cheap shot at the Soviet's at the end. What would happen if the Soviet's did not do what they did? I guess the Nazi would be making this video about their victory in WW2, NOT you.

You can see from the map it-s location on the Volga. Stalingrad was absolutely important. Without it, the Soviets would be cut off of oil and other supplies from the South. It would be very difficult to keep fighting without oil.

actually the sovient citizens were helping german soldiers while the red army suffered from lack of food and supply obaying the order 227(suicide mission) which no soldier of red army couldn't back down no matter what.

What 24 hours lifespan? I would be dead within 24 minutes. Or more likely 24 seconds. From a heart attack. And a good thing too. Better than being torn to shreads by machine guns or blasted to pieces by bombs and mines.

Just imagine if this was in the mid 40s and the casualties surpassed millions, with todays tech and fighting techniques and strategies just imagine how many casualties will be made in the nezt major war
reply

The Soviets really went through hell and are the MVPs of WWII. Chuikov-s brilliant -hug the enemy- strategy and his command style during the battle of Stalingrad made operation Uranus possible.
reply

Your explanation of order 227 is factually incorrect and very misleading. I highly encourage you to edit this further with the correct information as your explanation encourages misinformation

The Soviets would shoot their own soldiers from behind to keep going forward. Definitely a terrible war crime - worst to their own than the Nazis were to the Soviets.

Now ofc it isn't for sure but my father and all his siblings think that my uncle's father was positioned at Stalingrad so I'm just shocked what he might have gone through
reply

Good video but order 227 didn't apply to soldiers but to officers or commanders
You could still retreat back to your lines if you were a soldier

Life expectancy in Stalingrad was 24 hours. So if you were in lost position would you put bullet in your head or risk slow painful death?
reply

Germany had no idea how much USA's supplies were trully arriving to Soviet Union. All stalin had to do was force civilians to fight
reply

Everybody talking that Ussr had many casualties, but the axis forces also had the same amount of casualties, about a milion
reply

Throughout WW2, German always has the most advanced weapons and troops numbers but they lack the strategic plans!
reply

It would it not be correct to say that Operation Uranus caught the Germans. wait for it. with their pants down? -

The art of war says a siege is no good, but a prolonged siege even when successful, comes at a great price.
reply

The Nazi clique claimed victory in November 1942. Under a year later, the Nazis were clearly doomed to lose.

Women in WW2?
