This comment is just an idea/suggestion for map highlighting in future videos. feel free to reject it, that wouldn't hurt my feelings in the slightest.
10: 28 the map fades from Gran Columbia to the multi-nation map of today.
That highlighting transition felt awkward to me in the Peru area. I'd make Paru two shades of green. One part as bright as other highlighted areas, the other part almost as pale as the unhighlighted areas. Idea suggested for future videos involving map highlighting transitions.
To make two colors very clearly one country I'd use three visual mechanisms. 1) Unity of color, division of shades. Two shades -of the same color-. 2) The thick border lines (you already have in use. The border between shades would not have a border line. 3) Finally the country name spanning across the border between shades of the same color.
I believe if done well, this will make all of Peru visually obvious as one nation, but also show clearly the part that was part of GC, and the part that was not, while not being too confusing. (Some slight confusion is appropriate because it's true. there's more going on there than is discussed because it's not in the scope of this video, and that's okay)

wouldn't be surprised if the U. S. had something to do with the breakup. Many instances all over Latin America of the U. S. under minding governments and installing puppet dictators only to backfire down the road. All these international policies towards Latin America are what's kept progress in the region stalled and instability rampant. We see today the mass migration to the north. Inheritance and effects of those long-ago conflicts. Bolivar admired and wanted to replicate in his own way what was happening in the new nation to the north. No monarchies, no dictators. just saying. Hidden history.

I am happy Panama is an independent country and no we were not forced by the USA to separate from Colombia, since 1830 there were at least separation movements because we were a forgotten province, tired of civil war (the lattest one the 1000 days war) and all the money produced by the railroad went to Bogota, the last straw was when the colombian congress rejected the canal treaty between Colombia and the US- enough was enough, we joined voluntarely Bolivar-s project and the same way we left. Did the US help? Yes. Did they promote the separation? No.

Being Colombian, I clearly see that the political discordial matter is related to the same fear of all ages: 2f we do/do not do this, we will be like (insert country here)-. Besides, the idea of centralization has always reached out the point of no return because it is set up as just a title, forgetting everything 5 blocks away from the house of the president. Yeeeep, that's a perfect reasonable move to realize, very late, that federalism would have done the best as per great coverage of the territories and a more for the support of the nations.

if Gran Colombia never broke up, could be possible if:
Gran Colombia was a non-centralized country from the start
Bolivar send Sucre to -liberate- Peru instead of going himself, staying in the country to fix his economy
Bolivar never made himself dictator of Peru and president of Bolivia
made reforms to all states instead of just one
there would be still conflicts with the borders of Peru
don't forget about Panama
however, this will still will be enough for Gran Colombia to stay afloat

It does seem a shame that the Spanish-speaking nations of South America could not have united and formed a federal union which could have resisted abuse and exploitation by European nations and the U. S. A respectful alliance between the USA, the EUM (Mexico) and the EUC ( Estados Unidos de Colombia, a union of the Spanish-speaking nations of South America) could have made for a happier, wealthier and more peaceful world.

The lack of importance majority of these videos give Guayaquil for the freedom of Ecuador and what is now peru and how Quito in august 1809 had failed to have Ecuador freed from Spanish rule and that is why they agreed to join the La gran Colombia. Thanks to Guayaquil Ecuador was freed. This video lacks the importance of Ecuador. We never wanted to be part of Colombia because of how tied they were with Spain.

The most populated and the largest GDP of the Americas, by far, was New Spain. From 1519 until 1815. Then from 1821 the First Mexican Empire and in 1824 the First Mexican Republic, however both the empire and the republic never managed to retrieve the control of the pacific ocean-s trade routes that New Spain had for around 3 centuries.

For the hope of any unification, people in these countries needs to act like belonging of the same country and not like different class of people
It's kinda sad how nowdays people from Colombia or Venezuela acts like they are superior to other latin america nations even thought they are kinda the same

I'm shocked to see in the comments by colombians saying this Greater Colombia was actually their country, when it actually was just the name given to a country that unified Ecuador, Venezuela, New Grenada and Panama. It was NOT the actual Colombia that we know nowadays.

According to political history, Panama should be considered a South American country instead of a North or Central American country.
Without Uncle Sam's stabbing in the back (--, Panama probably would still be a part of Colombia today.

It failed because of corruption. Until today we have had the same problem. A few families who have been in the government for about 100 years are the same that are ruling the destinies in the modern days.

So, no surprise, the population in Gran Colombia at that time didn't want the union and fought against it.
Why is this breakup seen as a bad thing?
