How did Portugal and Spain Plan to -Conquer- the World?
video description
at the height of their global empire in the 16th century the Portuguese waged war on more powerful people than the Spanish did, across a wider stretch of the globe. in addition to their endless military campaigns in Morocco that lasted about 350 years, for almost a century the Portuguese empire battled the Ottoman Turks and their Muslim allies in the Indian ocean, Persian gulf and Red sea. the Portuguese also gave military assistance and mercenaries to modern day India, Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia, Japan, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand to assist in their local wars. during this period of history, they were also fighting the native Brazilians and the French for control of Brazil. a tiny nation of around 1. 5 million simultaneously waged war in Africa, Asia and South America, while also outsourcing their navigators to other European powers. quite amazing when you give it a thought.\r\n

The rest of Europe or of the world didnt have the knowledge, the means, neither the sea power to deny the Iberian Treaty! Just Portugal and Spain could sail on those waters, in fact Portugal had to discover how to travel on those waters, where were the winds, the currents, in what directions, in what part of the year was it possible to travel there? Europe was more than 100 years behind in relation to Iberia, it is a pity that historical commentators always talk about how European countries were only tolerant of the Treaty of Tordesillas and never say the truth, which was only one, until the end of the 18th century, Portugal and Spain have always been the richest and most developed regions in Europe!

The fact Portugal still exists and actually pre dates the current version of Castille and also that they themselves became an imperial empire is remarkable but it would of made more sense from a civilization perspective for Iberia to be one state and doing all of these endeavors with limited resources like population ( population of Portugal in the 1500's was about 1 million.
This is a testament to our Lusitanian stock and its quality.
This is why some Castilians look down on us its like some sort of subliminal what could of been.

Both countries competed and fought each other in the colonization era, and they also defeated the garbage ottoman empire in specific naval battles. Such as Battle of Gulf Oman 1554 (decisive Portuguese victory, ottomans lost all their ships, ottoman admiral fleed like a chicken: ) and Battle of Cape Corvo 1613 (It was a crushing Spanish victory, a vast amount of ottomans taken prisoner by Spanish)
These two kingdoms came out from the Iberian Peninsula, spread all over the world, and became a global empire.

Spanish plans to rule the world wasn't even far fetched at that point the Spanish monarchy was the strongest country in europe and would soon be At personal union with both portugal, Naples, and the HRE. With a wast colonial empire fueling the strongest army at the time and West Europe being almost completely united, for a moment it looked like Spain/Iberian union would soon force most of the world into submission.

If you don't know the history, then you would amaze that these 2 nation conquer the rest of the world but actually not. They just looking for weaker enemies to bullies, because at that time Ottoman is a growing entity and Portugal and Spain knows that they can't go to war with their neighboring countries as-well because they know they will be put up to challenge.

5: 40 This is incorrect. Portugal was more concerned with the trade in India, not Africa (and for sure not greenland. Plus, at this time Portugal and Spain only knew about the Caribbean (although some historians think Portugal knew about Brasil, like you mentioned. Both countries never guessed the Americas would be such a big of a continent by this time

This is very debatable. But I would say they both got well served. Portugal had a very small population so even if they got more of the americas it would be hard to hold it later even considering slaves. Also their trade style did wonders although it was actually terribly managed since it wasnt really getting invested.

This was the beginning of the end. Most people and nations were relatively content with their lot before this started. Only the Europeans weren't content, because they couldn't defeat the Turks and get land access to the spices of the East. Now we can buy cinnamon at the supermarket, at the expense of millions of lives.

Fun fact: The Treaty of Tordecillas had repercusions well into the 19th Century as Brazil and the United Provinces of The River Plate (Argentina) finally settled their dispute over the Oriental Strait in 1828 thanks to British intervention. That's how my country Uruguay was created.

Why did all of the other countries (E. g. UK, Netherlands, France andf other European Countries) violate the Treaty of Tordesillas and conquer the other parts of the new world? Also, why both Spain and Portugal didn't not capture the lands later as stipulated in the treaty?

what happened to the respect or the -Christian ideals of fairness and righteousness- of other cultures and people? LOL Since day one, religion has been a total ironic disaster, fake and hypocrisy. The Popes wanted their share of land and money as well.

Fun fact during the Napoleonic wars, after Napoleon overthrew the Spanish king, the heir to the Spanish throne was his sister the queen of Portugal, this means that technically the whole world is Portuguese propriety

Smallpox did most of their conquering. Crusader states Spain & Portugal didn't do well expanding into Europe & North Africa although they put a stop to Ottoman expansion with Battle of Lepanto.
