Where does this come from! Almost everything about the natives before Colombus made large enough contact to cause thousands of years worth of pandemics to hit the continent over night killing up to half of them after 1492. They may have had contact with the old world before younger dryas events. Locally they found an ancient native site in the heart of Cherokee territory that is nothing like Cherokee when TVA dug the Earth to make Norris Dam in Tennessee. They found ancient mayan artifacts and a temple that dates back thousands of years. The ancestors of the Cherokee had contact with central America and Mayans had a far outpost or just a trade hub. Not to mention Coahika around St. Louis of today. Before the great dying they were more advanced. Farming was in the Americas from the beginning before and not too far after the great flood or whatever science calls the cataclysm that cause a massive immediate ice age and warming event along with dramatic sudden sea rise with the sudden melting of Lorentine Ice Sheet.

Crazy that by the time Europeans founded permanent settlements in North America, their earlier presence (De Soto, and other conquistadors, explorers, and traders) had already decimated the existing populations of Native American societies as they once were, before contact. This had the effect of shattering these societies and leaving survivors from many different groups being forced to band together into new groups. It took Native American peoples a long time to re-organize into new tribes, so, when the English first came to settle, they encountered societies reorganizing and recovering from previous European germ induced collapse. From my days as a child up to now I have imagined the different worlds that featured in history such as those presented in this video. These varied alternate worlds which once actually existed are beautiful and fascinating to contemplate.

You seem to be leaving out the enormous amount of violence that occurred during that transition.
In the Paleoindian period, before the humans had killed off most of the megafauna, there had been a relatively unified, peaceful material culture across North America.
Probably, people communicated widely, the culture staying the same because everyone intermixed.
But they killed off the megafauna, and thus began to struggle for food, they also fractured into smaller cultures that engaged in enormous violence against each other.
The frequency of human-caused violent death in the fossil record goes through the roof, in this period.

I would argue that agriculture is not that big of a deal and that the term civilisation is outdated in its usage. Just take a look at archeology and anthropology work in the last 10 years. Of course the method of subsistance changed with agriculture but ots use was more complez than we thought of before. Some people used it then stop using it in alternance during 100 of years. Your video is nice but you are lacking some understanding around the americas and what they were.

Jeez. okay, a lot of subjective assumptions. I do know that south American socieites were infact, not peaceful and used to reward their warriors for capturing enemy soldiers alive to be sacrificed. Still, they were relatively advanced. I feel like this information comes from some rather biased sources trying to put certain arguments forward but okay.

These kinds of videos always leave me wondering how different the history of the Americas would look today. Had the indigenous civilizations that were here before European arrival given the time to develop and sprawl the way ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia did, how different would the Americas be in culture and history than they are today

I Beleive everyone has to come to an agreement on what is civilization.
I beleive civilzation starts when a TRIBE become sedentary AND have achieved certain knowledge and technological level.
Ie. written language. the wheel. roads. farming MATHMATICS. metal working. NOT using stone tools
Without those, that's a hunter gatherer tribe.

Lived in Utah 20 years and got the story from the Mormons. They say this was their people. The original mound builders in Louisiana were a tribe of Israelites who escaped when Nebuchadnezzar took Jerusalem. It’s a heck of a story they will tell you. I don’t know personally, wasn’t there to see for myself. Really nice people though.

The Aztecs are relatively new. There were no ancient Aztecs as the tribe consolidated as they settled near a lake in central Mexico in about 800 a. d. By the 1200s, they had established and built Tenochtitlan. By the early 1400s, they began consolidating their empire. They weren't ancient.
