There are some key missing points here. First, to say that psychology is often referred to as the relationship between brain functions and behavior or environment is kinda dangerous to say to the audience and also incorrect. The thing about psychology is, even though there is empirical research going on, there are still many different schools (behaviorism, psychoanalysis, humanistic approaches, gestalt etc) which all look at people's behavior from different angles. This is kind of a thing that we had in natural sciences a few hundred years ago when there was no universal consensus. The definition of psychology stated is simply incorrect because it makes a person believe that if they take psychology class that it is going to be biologically focused, which is only one of the perspectives you must take when trying to grasp something as complex as the mind, actually this definition is closer to a field called cognitive neuroscience. If you truly want to approach the field of psychology without becoming too conservative, I advise you to read something on philosophy of mind, philosophy of social sciences and epistemology before starting with psychology per se, it will give you a perspective on which aspects of the human mind can actually be measured (in a scientific way, and why you don't want to disregard something about the mind as a psychologist in your practice (depending on your subfield) just because it can not be truly empirically tested.

i feel like i have an annoying typical shonen motivation, but i genuinely want to help people since i grew up in a household where its believed that being diagnosed and acknowledging mental health is something that only privileged ppl can care abt, i understand why they have that kind of mindset and i dont blame them for that but i believe that psychology is really powerful and its hard for me to express my feelings and what i want to say which makes it hard for me to comfort others when i dont even know my own feelings, thats why i want to learn psychology not just for bettering and understanding myself but also to help ppl who went through the same as me who feel like their feelings n mental health dont matter, though it does get boring and frustrating, especially since its a rlly popular course so theres bound to be a lot of competition, and im not rlly the sharpest tool in the shed ill still try cuz i literally have no other choice since i find no interest in other jobs besides psychology and art

Its weird. Ive always been watching psychology related videos and shows for fun for about 3 years now just so that I could help my social anxiety and because I was genuinely interested in the psychology behind serial killers and all alike, yet I never really looked into it as a possible career and have always chased after being an astrophysicist or something along that type of field instead Now that Ive been at the lowest point of my life and realized that the chance I have to become an astrophysicist is extremely low since there are only about 6k of them in the entire planet, I think I wanna go down this field instead. So far Im in between being a clinical psychologist, a neuropsychologist, or a criminologist. I just hope that Im able to psychoanalyze myself soon but Ive been keeping up with doing different types of research into this topic and Im hoping this is the right field for me. Im only just going into sophomore year though so I guess I still have some more time to go.

Dear Psych2Go, I feel that I am empathetic to understand people and myself. As one comment said that I am understanding psychology after understanding myself. Same goes for me. But the point is I sometimes keep feeling that as I understand other people, others should understand me too. So would it be a great option to opt for psychology? Or should I understand the people around me that not everyone are that empathetic to say that. that's okkk. That happened just because of the action of your brain. Bcz as if I progress in psychology then I could feel this more isn't it?
And also will it be cherishable in life if Youu know everything about your brain? Does life become perfect? I feel that to live life and make memories. Imperfections are necessary too. I'm currently in 10th and I am going to move forward in 11th this year. pls reply me

I decided to take psychology when I was in 9th grade because I was extremely interested in hypnosis I kept telling everyone I want to do psychology because I imagined myself holding a pendulum and hypnotizing people
Later on I realized u r not gonna learn hypnosis and magic techniques to read people's mind and manipulate people and stuff
But I learnt that it's more of understanding ourselves. The more u understand urself the more u connect with people. Hypnosis (kind of a diploma course)and therapies are other fields which u will specialise in after your bachelors.
So anyway I decided to stick with the field, fell in love with psychology. Currently working as a counsellor and still expanding my knowledge. It's ab amazing field

I used to start off as a biology major until volunteering at a vet clinic made me realize that being a veterinarian was not my supposed dream job when I claimed I want to work with animals. A talk with the biology adviser made me realize that being a service dog trainer sounded more like me because the thought of training dogs at my own pace already sounded relaxing. I hate working under pressure and I prefer to work alone because I can't stand group stuff for the most part. Switching to psych major really shaped my character because I liked reading the material a lot better compared to when I struggled to comprehend tedious math and science formulas/equations.

I really hate to disagree, but psychology is not a science as of yet, it is still a theory not to mention it has not captured the minds of indigenous peoples throughout the world but has mostly studied only developed nations or peoples so one cannot say that all people are like developed peoples.

Me: Psychology is so cool! I'm gonna study it!
Looks at future jobs from taking psychology classes
- Becoming a therapist
Inside Head: How ironic, my parents say I need therapy, and I will become a therapist

I'm too old to take formal classes. Can't afford them, either.
I'll just keep reading the odd book/article, listening to (professional) people like Dr Jordan Peterson, and watching videos like Psych2Go. ;-)

I believe my inspiration to become a psychologist is Supernanny. I just liked how she was able to understand the children and know how to handle them according to their mental diagnosis or just their age.
