An obsession can easily be compared to an addiction. Personally, I remember when I had a huge obsession with this girl I used to be very close friends with years ago. Her name was Whitney. Whitney was in the same grade as me, and the 2 of us shared a few classes together in the 8th Grade during the 2004-2005 school year. Not only did she and I have a lot of mutual friends, but my family actually knew hers for years. Matter of fact, my late father was really good buddies with her father. It's like Whitney and I inherited our friendship from our fathers. However, shortly after High School started for me and Whitney, Whitney eventually found my attention towards her to be more than she bargained for. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't have backed off from her easily as a result of the obsession I had with her. In all honesty, Whitney was NEVER my girlfriend. Nobody ever was. It was just these obsession induced delusions going around in my head that had me thinking that she was my girlfriend. Eventually, much to my dismay, I wound up on the receiving end of a no-contact order from her. I soon backed off. Later on, in the 11th Grade, it seemed that Whitney and I were in the process of reconciling, but it didn't take long for Whitney to develop a habit of leading me on by acting nice to me in person only to go behind my back and tell the school staff that I was bothering her. Eventually, in April 2008, the police made the no-contact order more strict. Tragedy struck on June 10, 2008 when lunch break came around. I got to my usual table (not knowing that Whitney planned on sitting there. When Whitney saw me there, she made up a story about me stealing her seat while she got up to get a bottle of water and called the police to arrest me. I tried to explain myself about what really happened, but I was cut off mid-sentence and arrested as a result of the false accusation that Whitney made against me. I had to go to court every month. This was a very traumatizing experience for me. I remember it well like it was yesterday. As long as I live, I will NEVER forget it. Now that I'm free from the obsession I used to have with Whitney (as if 2012, as atonement for my past obsessive actions, I now have intentions of remaining single for the rest of my life to prevent myself from developing a romantic interest in ANYONE ever again. Now while I do realize that people are trying to help by telling me that they're sure that I might find the right woman, I highly doubt it. The incidents that took place in High School took their toll on me, permanently scarring me for life.
However, while I do realize that no-contact orders are to protect stalking victims from stalkers (which is what they SHOULD be used for instead of being hijacked for use as weapons of prejudice against people who have autism like me, I have a burning hatred for them because of my bad experience of being on the receiving end of such a thing for unfair reasoning.
NOTE: If Whitney herself ever happens by even the slightest chance to find my comment here, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT TAKE THIS PERSONALLY! If you didn't get me in trouble with the police, some other woman would've! The thing is, the incidents in High School involving the 2 of us could've happened with ANYONE I would've developed an infatuation with, and the consequences could've been a lot worse, especially if it were someone whose family never knew my family, as well as someone who never knew anyone I was ever friends with! I encourage you to at least be glad that I'm free now from the obsession I used to have with you. But hey, despite my single life preference, I am aware of the positive things about being married, so I do respect the marriages of others. I don't know if you're married or not Whitney, but if you are, congratulations on your marriage.

Yep. I recognized those signs, who's ready for a story?
I was with someone whose name I won't disclose for her privacy, and I constantly felt the need to be with her and just wanted to talk to her all the time. I mistook obsession for love, but now I've realized more the truth of what I was doing and feeling. I also gave a heck load of myself to her, throwing away aspects of my own life just to spend time with her whenever it was possible. In the end it turns out I was just getting too obsessed and had lost the actual love I felt in the beginning. She saw this and ended things with me.

I just got into a relationship with the most amazing person ever! And because they deserve the best relationship possible I always refresh myself with healthy relationship tricks as much as I can. Although I am always scared that in the process of loving him, ill also become obsessed, I've been with someone who was obsessed and it made me break up with them. So I'm very glad that this video exists so that I can be the best loving, supporting, and trustworthy boyfriend I can be for him! Because he is for me

The 4th one is me in general. I've always done what I could to help, or protect people I care about. Even if it means helping them in a way that makes me uncomfortable or I probably shouldn't (say financially.
It's wrong and I need to look out for myself more, but I've always had the mindset that I want them to be happy, even if I suffer or it stresses me out.
I'm trying to change. It's hard when you don't hold yourself in high regards and think youre worthless.

Thanks for the vid! I have watched it a long ago but now that I rewactched it, it hit me really hard 'cause my partner is obsessed and he doesn't want to recognize it. I've broke up with him several times and, eventhought, he comes back. I want us to be mentally healthy but it's complicated when he isn't listening and others say he shouldn't leave me lr forget me. Right now, I'm debating in my mind what i should do. What do you recommend me?

Me with my cat:
I'm obsessed it seems.
1: CONSTANTLY calls my cat's name
2: I don't wanting them to SUCCEED in killing birds because what comes around, goes around. The bird community will kill me.
3: Meow, meow, SURFACE LEVEL CONVERSATIONS.
4. Yes, I'll buy that cat tree even though I don't got a lot of MONEY, 2 cents and a paperclip currently: )
5. Lots OF SHORT TIME GOALS, buying cat toys TODAY. Tomorrow, I repeat.

I used to think it was love, now I realize it was obsession. Now I set boundaries for myself, I try to be more genuine and I know the signs for when it isn't in the cards. I make a lot more great friends now, and I am not stressed about maintaining a facade every two seconds. I do love my most recent friend, but the timing wasn't right, and I need her more as a friend than a romantic interest. Life is pretty good so far.

I have never been comfortable with balanced relationships. Giving is easy for me I feel like it makes me genuine and sincere. But when it comes to taking I've never felt anything but shame and narcissistic guilt. Its like if I benefit from the relationship then I'm being selfish and I begin to question the validity of my feelings.

Thank you so much, my first relationship was like this. I guess I learned from her that this is how you should be, always talking and never having time apart, but I was just unhappy. It became more a routine of doing what she wanted me to do than me actually enjoying it. I hope this isn't too personal but I appreciate this video!

I give a lot of myself to my bf, what he want, I give him all of it. Sometimes I think, is it right? Is it okay? And I'm really make sure to not make him angry or upset to me. While he not do the same to me, I feel sad sometimes but I think this for our relationship I'll do anything. I didn't know it turned out to be an obsession

I am currently in my first ever relationship with my boyfriend, and I'm obsessing so much. Probably caused by my history of being left behind, and switching friends so much. I'm just happy he's patient and understanding, and we do talk about my obsessive tendencies. I do try my best not to obsess over him and give him space.

Looking back on my ex, she was very obsessed with me. I knew I didn't like her, but it felt nice to be loved, especially after my crush got back with her ex boyfriend (they had had a misunderstanding. There were many other things wrong with our relationship, but I won't get into the details.

I usually avoid these kind of videos because I'm scared of what I'll find. The mere thought of my relationship with my partner being unhealthy terrifies me but at the same time I'm curious to know if any of these behavior patterns are present and which one of us is showing them
reply

I see that I am obsessed, not in love, but at the moment they cant contact me for personal reasons and its making my mental health deteriorate extremely quickly. Id like to be in love but Im not sure how to fix this and I always end up getting this way. How can I fix this?
reply

I am finally convinced the last crush i had was just me liking to be in love with someone, while now i have a new one that made me realize what a crush is under different eyes and i am now shure this time is real
reply

As a person I like being around my friends as I am a very social person but like a normal person I do sometimes feel the need to just be left alone. But even then I will sit near my friends but not engage.
reply

So I felt love for someone virtual, someone who doesnt exist, and got obsession for 2 real people. Not so lucky if you ask me, but I at least enjoyed my love.

I think I might be obsessed with my partner. I am too lazy, and exhausted to tell the basis of it right now. But I will update this comment in the future to explain.
