In a landmark 1992 study - Let me summarize this whole video for you: depressed people are too negative about everything and just want to blame the world for their problems instead of talking personal responsibility for their failures. - just more oversimplifying and patronizing pop-psychology b. s. that blames the victim instead of having compassion on them. People wear glasses because of a biological malfunction of an organ - the eyeball. Type-1 diabetics take insulin from infancy because their pancreases can't produce enough of it. The brain is also an organ, albeit more complex. There are thousands of congenital traits and conditions, most of them still probably undiscovered, that affect every single one of the body's organs, from our toenails to our brain cells. Is it really a stretch to conclude that some brains may be biologically disadvantaged and prone to depression? Trying to say depression is an exclusively cognitive-behavioral disorder is like trying to say food is exclusively an apple.

I'm 40 years old & have been living with depression for 30+ years. It was not only passes through genetics but spoon-fed to my brothers, sister & I by our father who suffered from untreated bipolar disorder/ manic depression. I'm fed up with never getting the treatment that I need. My doctor insists on giving me the same medication that doesn't work & makes me fat! I've been on a waiting list to speak to a psychiatric counsellor for over 10 years & my mental state is at the end of its tether & I feel just like giving up & ending it! I have worked out the quickest method of suicide for myself. I just don't see why I should go on living this half-life, when there's literally no help out there for NHS patients with mental health issues. I'm done

1. I feel like Im the root cause of every problem around me.
2. I feel like Im trapped in a cage or something.
3. I feel hopeless.
4. I get mad about the smallest things.
5. I start shaking when Im nervous or mad.
6. I feel like everyone is happy except me.
7. I feel like my death would be the happiest thing for everyone!
8. I dont feel like saying these things to anyone because no one will understand what Im going through. (Ive tried once tho)
9. It breaks my heart when my loved ones say that maybe Im going crazy or something.
10. Every morning I feel like, theres no point of me staying alive.
11. At this point, I dont even care if I would wake up the next morning or not.

I got here because I was looking up whether life is a burden and I do think I have chronic depression. My short 24 years of life have been spent doing everything right and because of things out of my control I cannot succeed. For the last couple of years I have seen the glass half empty of eveything around me and I'm at the point where I don't want to have kids because life is just work and struggling just to have another generation. I should talk to an expert but I don't feel comfortable.

Do not know if there is any useful therapy when you develop this sht in the early years of yo life. In my opinion one method is to bulk up and break them bones. I know it's an utterly violent advice but if you have to start somewhere I think the point is you are not alone. Your arms can smash them jaws. At least for the beginning. After some self confidence and some broken bones may you can start feel better. And look forward of course. Get rid of your enemies, real or not.

It might be hard for the 87% who have never experienced depression to understand but this negative outlook is due to nearly every past experience acting as a perfectly reasonable predictor for future failures. It would be nice if in a world so geared towards making everyone depressed if we could acknowledge that some people are in fact depressed through no fault of their own and actually are victims of constant and repeated negative situations they have no control over

I'm in a really good mood today, seems like depression left me for now, but i know that it will return, the one thing that i never realized once before is just, how low have i fallen? i completely gave up on myself and everything around me, i turned myself into nothingness, and i'm only just realizing that, i want this good feeling to keep growing but everytime i come close to a turning point it just takes a dive down.
edit: it came back

Sometimes I wish I had a valid reason for my mental degrade, because then, at least Id be able to quantify exactly why I no longer have a properly functioning psychiatric state. Nothing caused it, Ive lived, by most standards, a pretty great life so far, but I just started to crumble over time with no good reason why. My unstable mental health might actually be hereditary, so I guess I have my horrible genes to thank.

It's so hard meditating sometimes, hearing about the law of attraction, no matter what, I feel hated, unworthy, silently judged by all who cross paths with me, all just waiting for me to leave to discuss how pathetic I truly am. Sometimes I feel like my insides are being ripped out constantly. Sometimes feeling understood is all I need. It's surprising how normal these feelings can be.

I'll speak about my struggles; and I can tell anyone wondering that there is no help. It isn't going to get better, and it will in all likelihood get worse. This world doesn't care for you, and if even a couple of people do you better count yourself lucky. It only gets worse with time, the older you get, the less options you will have and the more trapped you will become.

Depression is a silent killer. It's hard to deal with it every night and day and when my panic attacks starts, you just want to disappear not because you are a bad person but because you don't want to feel that pain again and again. And the hardest part is when you seek help to the people around you they think it is just an acting or a big joke and you're helpless.

For most depressed people I've seen, it's because life is mentally stressful but physically unstressful. They have things they want to go do, but their spirit is so crushed that they see no means of doing it. Be it a dream job, building something, wanting to grow a garden, etc. I see people with big dreams while confined in the 9-5 box to afford rent and meals.

Im going through a very depressing time in my life. Ive been living inside my head for the past year. I injured myself during a manic episode and caused myself a hiatal hernia. Im in pain everyday of my life and Im fearful of the future. I had health anxiety before but never experienced this level of depression. Sometimes I just dont want to deal with it

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5: 3-5

The worst part is not knowing how to fix it or talk about it. Especially being a male its very hard and awkward to ask for help. Primarily because you act fine around your family and they dont take it serious because they know how you act on the outside but dont know what goes on inside your head

It always makes me laugh seeing the suggestion of therapy. Total scam to sit infront of some pompous quiet figure who only suggests the obvious. It enrages me just thinking about it.

Depression for me is not wanting to do anything but sit, no enthusiasm about going out, not interested about anything, think. about nothing, non-functioning life. It's dysfunctional life.

Idk. It's important to move on from things. If you're failing at a task, even after you tried your best, it's important to do something else to reach stability and then try again
