It seems to me like self-sabotage is dependent on how one views success and, to the degree that people depend on the society around them for various kinds of sustenance, it depends on the social environment around us. A lot of these signs seem oriented towards social goals that have been predefined by our society and, while it's hard to change the notions of an entire society, that doesn't mean that these notions are fundamentally moral notions so it seems that the only way we'll create a better version of human societies is if we are at least willing to question the notions our current society has.
One notion that seems persistent in societies is this notion that one's life should have a purpose. I don't see any reason why some definable purpose would be a fundamental component of life or of one's enjoyment of it. If someone didn't have some overarching purpose to their life, wouldn't they still be alive? If a person pays attention to all the various experiences in life, can anyone say that at the end of this person's life they hadn't experienced life? Which is more useful? I wonder whether we aren't causing ourselves some unnecessary angst by instilling in one another this notion that there must be a purpose for our lives. Questioning this notion should only be distressing to someone who isn't really willing to consider the possibility that life has no meaning, even though everything any one of us ascribed to be meaningful in life before questioning whether life has a specific meaning doesn't change. Worrying about one's purpose seems a lot like worrying about the future when one can only live in the present.

Great video! Thank you. I wish these videos existed when I was in public school.
I think that some solutions hinted at require motivation and willpower. When I self-sabotage I find it difficult to motivate myself to do the important things, and so the willpower also isn't there to do the important thing. So we can''t really rely on willpower to clean our room, organize our lives or go talk to employers about a job I find it takes very small steps that don't require that much time or energy commitment to gain momentum. And if there doesn't seem to be any progress, then depression and discouragement can set it, which makes it even more difficult to do something like wash a few dishes. I have found that I have to use affirmations and visuals of successful execution to change my mindset long enough that I can do something that is important. However, if the task, job is too draining or not my passion, I find it very difficult to sustain it, and all the self-sabotage/destructive behaviours come back. How can we start really small and consistently become less self-sabotaging/ destructive?

Here are a couple of thoughts on two subjects in this list. I noticed that some of these self sabotaging thoughts start from outside sources who gaslight while in denial of doing so.
2- Overly self-critical. If you're not doing this on your own, it started others closest associating with you. When it is done too much, and for a long period of time (decades with some, it comes out when you least expect it from your subconscious. It gets habitual if not remedied right away.
4- Compare yourself to others. This often starts out when others are comparing others to you. Those closest associates (family members, peers, teachers, pastors, some friends, etc.
Just an observation and thought.

My name is ROBERT. Remember that. Something recently re-inforced my own opinion of myself. I was checking what was on television, and read about a film showing that morning. It said Two boys want to win a race, but face constant sabotage from their rivals. I immediately realised that if you wanted to do a real-life drama about myself it would be Robert wants to achieve something, but faces constant sabotage from himself. Self sabotage has been the bane of my life.

I just feel like my friends are being biased and lying to me about being talanted in the field I wanna make a career in (singing) and I just don't know what to do anymore? It's so horrifying and I feel like I'm delusional and am actually really bad. And then everything in my head goes batshit, that's why I started posting anonymously on ig and now I think the likes I got (2) are just random people accidentally coming across it and liking it.

1) You struggle with imposter syndrome
2) Youre overly self-critical
3) Procrastinate
4) You compare yourself to others
5) Your life is disorganised
6) You initiate conflict with those you love
7) You lose your goals shortly after you achieve them
8) You focus on problems rather than solutions
9) Youre over indulgent
10) You question whether you have a purpose in life
Oh sxxx. I tick quite a few boxes.

I identify with so many of these but I just dont know how to stop. I am an extreme perfectionist, over thinker, and procrastinator and even when I do manage to do something well I always just seem to search for mistakes and when I find them I beat myself up inside for it. And God forbid I make a mistake in public that could be potentially embarrassing I will literally remember it for years to come.

I am self sabotaging. I lost my best friend today after they told me all i do is whine and complain about every minute detail of my life and that i do absolutely nothing to fix it like an adult.
And he's right. I complain so much about everything, and yet i don't take the time to step back and see what the issue is.
I genuinely don't know how to fix this issue of mine

Watched this first two years ago and found myself agreeing on all points, and resolving to tackle them one by one.
Today, a full two years later, I can proudly say I'm still the same ineffectual sack of shit but I now feel guilty about it 24/7.

Thank You all at Psych2Go. The one thing or reference that come's to me is that I would hope that other's are far removed from the ridicule that has been made of my life so continually by me and those other's that have planted so many seed's of despare.

The common thread amongst all Psych2Go videos Ive found is the discovery or identification of a problem. Never a solution. I always wait out a list of symptoms and then nothing, so more procrastination.

We accept the love we think we deserve. Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. What's your interpretation of this quote in the context of this video about self sabotage?

I have all the things you mentioned and I wish i've seen this a long time ago. Would've saved me years of suffering.

Thinking about our lifes meaning/purpose is not a waste of time, rather these are inevitable questions that need answers!

I could be the poster boy for self-sabotage. I don't have all the. symptoms, but I have a. lot. More than I'm comfortable with. So how to deal with it

Thank You all at Psych2Go. I had on behalf of those very positive other's to add a post script to clarify not all my interaction's were negative.

Dang 9/10 (because I'm not sure if I have impostor syndrome) hopefully soon I can see a therapist so I can stop self sabotaging myself
reply

Logically there can not exist solutions if no problems exist. What are the solutions for? Problems that do not exist? John L was wrong.
reply

Yeah and then you add on other obstacles or hindrances that make it that much harder to stop doing things like that - like ADHD.

Do you find yourself snacking out of boredom, even when you're not very hungry?
