If your father is self-centered, vain, doesn't take criticism well, wants perfection, and gets into rages, he may be a narcissist. Narcissistic fathers' daughters may feel as if they never get enough attention. Sons of narcissistic fathers may believe they will never be good enough. If you have experienced some of these signs, then you might have been raised by a narcissist. 1. live through their child 0

I agree with what was said, but the anime/cartoon references were a reach. Not everyone is a narcissist, & with this people will be way too flippant- a controlling personality does not always equate to narcissim in a parent/child dynamic. (Parents do groom their children to be their ideals of what a person should be- it'd be absurd to mold your child into what you believe failure looks like)
I don't think Mulan's father was a narcissist at all- the idea of bringing shame to your family was punishable by death at that time, so his firmness was more kindness than anything. & FMA he was trying to save the world & hide his immortality. he never pressured his kids to be perfect & when he had more time in the manga (later before he dies FOR his kids) he's nothing but kind. And Ariel. her father was willing to die for her & take her place when she basically sold her soul to be with a man she had an extremely superficial relationship with. it's like watching your kid run off to be in a cult that you know will harm them- you'd say something to stop them! Ariel may live happily ever after in Disney, but she turned into sea foam in the book.
In fact when I think of a real narcissistic father, I think of the father in Elfen Lied who was trying to create a super race based on his own genetic abnormality. He didn't even care when his own son got decapitated- he just called him weak. He also referred to himself as a perfect being & the evolution of humanity. that's the most narcissistic father I can think of!
Or if we have to use Disney, how about the evil stepmothers in Cinderella or the (fake) mother in Tangled? Classic narcissists.

I can personally attest to all of these points as the son of a narcissistic father. He always tries to guilt trip me and conform to his expectations. For the longest time (and to an extent I still do) that I'm merely an extension of him. He always brings up how much he has sacrificed for my sisters and I, while never acknowledging the sacrifices we have made to conform to his unreasonable and always inflexible demands. For the longest time I felt dependent on him, but there is a solution.
Leave, that is the final solution for all narcississts. So long as you choose to play their games, you will always be rigged to lose from the start. The only way to win is not to play. I'm in college and I plan on cutting all ties with him once I graduate. I don't need him in my life after that, he's done too much damage to me. I don't want him around any of his potential grandkids, he doesn't deserve to see them. I firmly believe that narcissists don't deserve rights, they simply drag others down with them because of their own problems that they simply lack the mental capacity to process. They will never understand the pain they've inflicted and if anything will say they deserved more but that they held back because of love that they thing they give as a reward rather than as a constant. They are beyond saving, they can't be helped since in their eyes they're already perfect. Why fix perfection? If it were up to me, I'd personally round them all up and execute them myself. They don't belong to this world, no one wants them and no one loves them. The world would be better off without them, they only have themselves to blame for their fate

After watching this, I'm convinced that Avatar: The Last Airbender handled this topic very accurately. If you watched the show, you'll know that Fire Lord Ozai was suffering from narcissistic personality disorder. His son, Zuko, was a failure in his eyes. He lacked the natural talent that his sister had. Zuko was his mother's boy; sweet, caring and compassionate. All the traits that Ozai considered as weakness. However, his daughter Azula was born a firebending prodigy. She was ruthless, cold and ambitious. She was the perfect heir that Ozai ever wanted. Ozai doted on his daughter. While he seemed affectionate towards her, this affection was no more than manipulation and emotional abuse. It was clear that he only held little conditional love for Azula. Meanwhile he was neglecting and abusing his son in many different ways. However, when she was at present, Ursa was able to prevent some of Ozai 's abuses. But after she disappeared, Ozai only got crueler to Zuko as well as growing her favoritism towards Azula. It amazes the how a kids' show handled such a complex family and the toxic relationships.

Dang. I have a father who fits most of these qualities, but he isnt distant like in the last one. which is the worst part. I've been trying for a few months to cut ties with him- but its difficult when you have just turned thirteen and your voice holds no meaning in court. Even though he gets me lots of presents and acts like we're super chummy besties or something, I've been noticing that when i try to let him know about the stuff he does that bothers me like when he says mean things about my mom or hits himself or just lets the ferrets pee and poop all over the house or rants and i have to listen or even drives off the lines on the road, he just cries and pushes stuff over and says God baby, what have they done to you or you dont even know how many times ive been beaten for you? and goes upstairs for three hours and then ACTS LIKE NOTHING EVEN HAPPENED when he comes back. Its really frustrating. He's still trying to make me come back and says if i dont (you know, over text and calls and stuff) that if i dont there will be consequences for mom. I wish he would go away.

It hurts that you don't include Mothers in this this video. My daughters had a discussion with me last week when they were behaving poorly. They're not feeling loved at their Mother's house. They said things like, she's always cleaning or on her phone. And I have heard her use the well I guess you don't love me on them as well. Women can be narcissistic too. I'm a single Father who is battling against a biased court system in favor of the mother on both custody and child support. Meanwhile, she's doing serious psychological damage to our kids. I know this because they tell me. It's not always the Father like you make it sound in your video, and it's extremely hurtful to me as a Father who continues to battle for his kids everyday and can't find a way to keep them safe from her extremely damaging behavior.

Having a father like this is one of the worst things that can happen to any children. I have a father who constantly sees me as his clone, makes decisions in my name without even asking me or even letting me live my own life and work on my own dreams as well as putting me to the worst works possible. It all started when I was 21 and I had no chance of escaping him because most of my money have been taken away, and back in there I also had a serious depression. Nom Im 29 and I can still barely escape from him because he does ANYTHING to ruin my life and my dreams too. It feels like being a prisoner in some kind of a nearly impossible to escape prison that have been made by your own father.

I am a survivor of a narcissistic father and abuse. I went to having food stuffed in my mouth as a child and physically abused from a child to teenager and adult he still trys me but I no longer care since I started loving myself and one day when I have my own nor him or little sister will have no contact or access to me because my sister picks up his little nasty ways too. So I ignore her and him. They know not to play with me. Because I can hurt them literally. I am happy I am free from them even though we live in the same house. You can be free you just need to invest in loving yourself and getting help. Nobody deserves to be treated like shit. Peace is thicker than blood.

I'm gonna be completely honest, all of the references instead made me distracted with the quotes and the references than what was being said, and at the end I felt like hardly any of this applied to me, when my estranged father LITERALLY has narcissism. My ADHD was not letting me digest the information at all. I just ended up confused. All I could think was, Wait, are they saying Mulan and Ariel's dads have narcissism? Or, are those just examples we can relate to? Several of these don't apply to me since I just avoided my narcissistic parent and learned to do so at a young age. Oh thank goodness the captions match what she's saying-- Oh, the video is over. .What?

Let's see.
Bragging about my accomplishments to others to the extent it is inappropriate or when I tell him specifically not to tell others?
Says my future won't come to anything if I do not lose weight and he won't waste his money on my future higher academics if I don't lose weight.
Putting my photo on his profile background when he knows I don't like having my face online.
When I set a boundary he suddenly goes sentimental and guilt trips like this is all for your sake and it breaks his heart because he loves me when he literally didn't respect or acknowledge my wishes and used inappropriate terms.
Yeah that is my sperm donor alright.

Being put down is the number sign for me. My father puts me down so much to the point that I am scared to talk to him. He invalidates my feelings and has even gone as far as telling me I have no right to express my feelings or show emotion while living under someone elses roof. Md doubled down by saying until I can stand on my own two feet, the not tell other ppl how what they do effects me.

Full agree with 1st, 2nd and 6th! Classic situations in my childhood and adulthood! My father is all of it and more, I used to be petrified when he would be at home as a child and now even as adult, he uses silent treatment & ignores me talking with me when hes angry or upset, leaving me wondering if I caused his bad mood or if he doesnt agree with what I have expressed.

I have an 89 year old narcissistic father who uses religion as a means of control. This video describes my father perfectly because he wasn't ready to be a father nor does he have the patience to love his wife and children. My mother died five years ago. Due to unfortunate situations with my two sisters, I ended up with him. I'll be moving out soon - I CAN'T WAIT!

I saw at least 4 things like my father in this, he also does this thing where if me or my sibling or even my mother disagree with something or have their own opinion about a certain decision or conversation about a fight, he ignores or gives less attention to. he makes us dependant by leaving us with nothing because he knows we don't have help from others.

This describes somethings of the relationship between my mother and my grandma, It's Sad, and because of this my mom wanted to make me grownup having a healthy bound with her, not like the one she has with my grandma, and nowadays she is ir neighbour, but, even we're close phisically, my family is not close emotionally with her

My father did not want me to live independently when I was 21 years old cuz he wants more years old infantilizing me and stuff. Then now, he complains about me being an adult still living under his roof when he is also the one who will stop me from moving away cuz he wants me to get investigated and spied at all times.

My father is extremely supportive, generous, a disciplinarian though not a harsh one, proud but not boastful, encouraging us to do better without diminishing our accomplishments. I'm constantly amazed at how fortunate I was to be thrown into this particular family!

My dad thinks the world revolves around him and his family. He thinks he so popular; so he takes me for granted. When I stand up to him, he lectures me like I am two years old. He needs to grow up. He has to control me. I am more than fed up!

This describes my dad, but one stands out more, manipulation. Growing up and maturing and realizing everytime my dad talks to me he manipulates me someway so I can't say no to him. Seriously life changing finding this out.

I cut connections with my narcissistic father and spineless stepmother almost three years ago, and it's the best decision I ever made. My life is so much more peaceful!

Oh man, the FullMetal Alchemist got me. That's a good example though. I love how they use anime and Disney characters as examples for these fathers.
