I have BPD and Bipolar II. Thank you for this video. I hope to one day destigmatize BPD because getting that diagnosis is incredibly difficult, in and of itself. But then there are people who dont get an official diagnosis and merely go around claiming they have the disorder, people who use the disorder to justify their terrible behaviors and people who make assumptions that someone they were dealing with had BPD. This all gets mixed together and comes back really hard on those of us fighting the disorder or just finding out we have it and wanting to know more, when the majority of us are just trying to live a normal life. The symptoms arent just hard on those around us, theyre extremely hard on us, as well. We often dont understand our emotions but were stuck feeling so incredibly intensely that they physically manifest in our bodies things such as severe pain, similar to that of a heart attack (called heartbreak syndrome, getting so mad that our skin starts burning as of its literally been burnt, and getting so excited that no substance can ever give an equal high. While feeling physically empty/hallow, on the inside mine feels like a tar pit inside of me. We go into autopilot and its like watching the world happen all around us, from within ourselves. Were out worst critics. Everything anyone else has ever said bad about us gets internalized and we will beat ourselves down with it, harder than anyone else ever could. Some days, we may feel absolutely untouchable. On top of the world. But most days, we loathe ourselves and just wish for all the stress to end. We dont idealize or split on purpose. We often have no choice in who our favorite person becomes and some partners will become offended when a coworker or friend is the favorite person, not them. Having an FP sucks. Relying on another person for our happiness, needing them we know how much of a burden that can be on someone. We understand why people put up boundaries (most of us. We know that we have toxic behaviors and most of us at the very least want to fix those behaviors. And Im not condoning enduring abe because someone refuses to change their toxic behavior- if theyre toxic, get out. But there are those of us that are working on getting the BPD into remission and living a fairly normal life. Only to constantly see the hatred and stigma attached to the disorder. Ive seen some absolutely disgusting things said about people with BPD. And while I get its from a place of hurt, misinformation or misunderstanding, I hope that one day changes, so others just getting the diagnosis dont go thru what I did, almost listening to what the hate was saying we should do. You arent your diagnosis.

I am a regular person who feels pain and joy or insult and anger or sadness and happiness like everyone else. I am very sensitive to the feelings of others and I am very aware of how people treat me and others. Sometimes I am too aware and too sensitive. Mostly, I do take those overwhelming feelings out on me, very seldom out on other people. But since I shared my borderline diagnosis with some friends, it's always the same. I get upset/angry, it's not because of upsetting events - it's my, borderline and I m told not to act out. If I get unhappy or sad, it's not people or situations that inflict it - it's my borderline, and I am told to suck it up. My whole self, my whole personality and my look at the world are reduced to being borderline. Feelings that are normal for other people and that are tolerated if other people show them, are not allowed to me. Because everything I show is borderline. So now I learned not to tell people about it. Makes life MUCH more easy. Kicking out fals friends helps too.

The problem with treating NPC (Narcissistic Personality) is that you first much find a means of convincing the narcissist that they are inherently unwell, and therefore need help. Due to the nature of the disorder, doing so is probably the largest single difficulty in treatment. You're better off treating those the Narcissist has abused to get over the various PTSD and emotional issues they face, combined frequently with co-dependency issues.
As for BPD, there are a lot of studies that point to early childhood formed abandonment issues being a leading causal factor in its development. To say that those who have BPD aren't violent is. perhaps an injustice. Many - perhaps even most - of those who develop BPD don't display violent tendencies. This is not, however, to say that BPD and Violent outbursts are somehow mutually exclusive. They aren't mutually elusive by any means, whether that violence is directed outwardly towards others, or takes the form of self harm.

Since when has having blue eyes, not the common, brown eyes been a disorder. I prefer to be alone, I am not comfortable around people. Its got nothing to do with disliking people, in fact I am more tolerant of other people and their idiosyncrasies than many another. Ever seen the couple of cows in the field grazing apart from the main herd. Thats me. But although on the periphery I keep a casual eye on the mob and am ready to rush to help if needed. I love them all in my way and am happy knowing they are not far off. They dont bother too much about me ordinarily and I am happy with that because I am one of the herd and i know I can ask for help if I need it. Our personality comes from our brain and we still do not understand deeply this highly sophisticated computer. We will better understand different personality traits when we better understand our brains. Big smile to you all.

I wanna say my old therapist told me personality disorders are being Removed from dsm 6. Maybe just bpd. Not sure what this means but to me she always encouraged to not fret about it - tho she didnt believe I had Bpd. None of my therapist ever said this. Now my newest md says 100% I have a PD. I think I have ptsd ocd depression anxiety snd maybe even adhd. Also pros only bipolar that has come up once or twice but its all opinions! Dont care if the person is a doc or not. I have had so many diag I dont know what to think but today Im not different than I was yesterday before this bpd diagnosis. I have good and bad behaviors regardless so I dont need a name for it or self shame

Also misdiagnosis. I got misdiagnosed with schizotypal a few years back, and when I looked into it absolutely nothing fit except for having a psychosis which I was fully aware that I was having and I sought help for repeatedly but I only got help once I became suicidal. Then a year ago I was sent to a psychiatrist for disability evaluation and she said nope you definitely don't have that, you have aspergers, which is a diagnosis that fits like a gloves, most of my kids have aspergers too, one is neurotypical, 3 are definitely aspies and one idk but he also used to have massive meltdowns whether that's from imitating the rest of us or because he's also an aspie idk.

Several of these personality disorders create trauma for those who come in contact with them.
Narcissism, for instance. These individuals tend to believe that they need NO help. That they are fine the way they are, while they create distress and confusion in those with whom they have relationship.
While the people affected by these personality disorders MAY not be violent, violent in one major factor in their ways on coping with others. There is a tendency for control of others also have to be a method for ameliorating their OWN symptoms of insecurity or shame. In that use of controlling others, they are dangerous.

Please add the most common personality disorder known as D. I. D dissociative identity disorder, it's more commonly known as multiple personality disorder. This happens when the brain can't handle trauma and splits off a section where it takes a new form known as an aulter and there are many types of aulters there are good ones that protect the body from anymore danger and then there are bad one with can take the form of that thing or person that caused the trauma. Please talk about this one more, a lot of people go straight to the movie split and it's has a very bad reputation for D. I. D coming from someone who has it.

A lot of my friends and my crush has BPD my crush having the worst case of it out of the people I know. People don't understand that they go through the feelings of being mercilessly stabbed every day only to their emotions instead of to their body. Often it stems from abuse and neglect in early years and linked extra heavy to CSA. They're also more likely to be victims of abuse in their relationships rather than perpetrators. And have a high suicide risk (can't count how many times my crush has actually attempted, it's that many times)

I'm always advocating for NPD, because it's so vilified, and I'm glad it made it into the video. As someome with NPD, I want to further expand on what was mentioned in the video, from personal expierence.
The problems with empathising with other people is totally correct. From what I expierence and from hearing other's, we can sympathise, just not empathize. We feel emotions differently. My love for my friends and family is most likely different from yours. My feeling of love is moreso like a feeling of comfort and safety.

As someone with BPD, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! People always think we split on purpose. No, I literally didnt know I was splitting until I began to research BPD. It happens automatically. The idealization happens automatically too. None of it is planned. Take my word for it, I dont enjoy going through it. Now that Ive been through enough therapy, I know that I need to slow down before I decide to cut off communication with someone or if I should text one of my favorite people something funny I found online.

As someone who suffers from narcissism, I think its important to note that NPD is a result of fluctuations of self esteem. So, while yes, we can experience grandiosity, we also experience the other extreme of low self esteem and self hate. It seems like a lot of educational resources highlight the former without acknowledging the latter too. People with NPD suffer greatly. we just mask the side of us that suffers because its seen as socially unacceptable.

Please, can someone tell me what is the right solution, when your big brother has schizophrenia and make a lot of comments of your body and makes you highly uncomfortable and don't feel safe in your own house whenever he's around because of his weird behavior and acts and words such as saying to me and mother I'll kill you then kill myself.
Tell me, Isn't normal for me wanting to get away from him cause I don't feel safe nor can protect myself from him.

Your definitions of personality disorder tend to fall in the category of many other variety of disorders amongst people's general characteristics or defaults it seems as though you are making general statements a blanket statement that these characteristics or defaults of your five disorders are perhaps the only answer well it is not you are wrong and you are labeling people as well here's my comment you asked for thank you

Borderline Personality Disorder: I almost have a personality, but not quite.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder: it's everyone else fault I can't prove I am better than them.
Antisocial Behavior Disorder: Other people suck and I know it.
Histrionic Personality Disorder: Watch me while I self-destruct just to get attention.
Schizotypal Personality Disorder: I'm not in a cult, you are.

Remember. Even if someone has a mental illness, you don't deserve to be treated like crap. I have BPD, and have always been a caring person. but I was lashing out at people. It's not my fault that I have mental illnesses, but it is my responsibility to get better and not take it out on others.

The thing about a narc getting treatment is that a person without empathy can't be taught to care about others, they can only be taught to fake it better. A narc will NEVER value others for anything other than what they can use them for, but sometimes they can pretend.

Borderline personality disorder is also a developed disorder so depression and anxiety that come with it are not from chemical imbalances in your brain so medication can help while going to therapy but will not treat your depression or anxiety.

I dont like how it said borderline personality disorder is often confused with bipolar but is similar - dont say theyre similar if youre not going to talk about how they are similar or different- I think it just adds to misconceptions about both

I never mixed up bipolar disorder and borderline but I used to think it was the same as dissociative personality disorder. I know now they are very different, but it proves we need more education regarding personality disorders.

i find it slightly uncomfortable how you acknowledge that personality disorders are very stigmatised and should be taken more seriously, yet still make extremely stigmatising videos about narcissists, psychopaths etc.

I am pretty sure I have BPD as I show many of the symptoms on the list. Also I was diagnosed with Asperger's but that was when I was 6 or younger and both BPD and Asperger's have very similar symptoms if not the same

This is actually dangerous advice. A narcissist can NOT be treated. Or at least not be healed. This false information will just prevent people from leaving toxic relationships with them. I'm highly disappointed.
