These are so difficult tho.
1. Acknowledge that the Struggle is Real: :
- YES, but it doesn't matter whether I acknowledge or not, as long as those in power (those with the hiring power, those with the means of production) refuse to do the same. It just ends up being a me problem
2. Avoiding Unhealthy Coping: :
- Gosh, I know what I need to avoid. but some of these are by far the absolute minimum that I can possibly let myself indulge. I have nothing else.
3. Embrace Uncertainty: :
- I am doing an okay job on this since I am a graduate student in chemistry, and thus this must come as second nature by the time you're this far in Science. However, it's just when it comes to life it's so much harder to do this, not because I can't accept uncertainty, but because those in power (those with the hiring power, those with the means of production, those with legal power) won't do so. Again, what's the point of me embracing uncertainty, if my life is still largely dictated by those who won't?
4. Ground yourself in the Present: :
- I wish I could do this. I don't have much possessions. However, losing the little things I still have is by far the most devastating thing ever. Food, a roof over my head, even a community that won't outright threaten my existence. all of this can disappear suddenly, whether as a consequence of my actions or not. It's just feels impossible to ground myself in the present since I don't have a true safe sanctuary, safety net of some kind, anything that I can fall back onto if things go bad. because of this, I have no choice but to live in fear of the future.
5. Be open to Learning and Reinventing Yourself: :
- Yes! Finally something I can actually do! Hooray!

Mental health public stigma prejudice discrimination against neurodiverse people i who'd love to see people go around in public asking people if they who'd date a mentally ill person someone neurodiverse etcetera in a cool way to spread awareness and to educate people to shine a spotlight that's not cool to stigmatize and discriminate and be racist or engage in any kind of hate including systemic i who'd love to see critical race theory being talked about, so we debunked it because the system isn't doing the good job preventing those things from happening if anything they are just exacerbating them we need to talk about those problems like climate change and social issues political correctness censorship falls information narratives and stuff like that online freedom and all of those modern problems lets move those topics from the podcasts to the streets, so legacy media is forced eventually to pick it up we need to raise awareness on what's going on I'm neurodiverse, and I noticed that there is this assumption around the word that people who dent date me because they are afraid of being locked or judged down by others for dating me are people afraid of being judged by others because they fear their judgement is right? People fear judgement because it requires them to entertain the opinions of others which are formed from a vantage that the judged can never have and that needs to happen globally all over the world

Are you following me? I have been going through a bout of anxiety for the last week. The what-if mind just wont turn off. Its worst in the morning. I could go to bed completely at bliss and then 530 BOOM anxiety, everything feels weak, everything feels hard to do. The worse part, its all out of my control: the weather, whether ill die in surgery, whether my plane will crash, whether humans will protect the planet, all things outside my control. I have also found out through this struggle that i may had ptsd for a heat stroke event i had when i was young, that making decisions with the chance of being wrong fills me with dread and that i hate challenges. Im also looking into whether there is actually something medicaly wrong with the way my body creates and absobes hormones as this could explain why i can go to bed perfectly at peace and wake up in pieces. For those out there that struggle with anxiety or depression, I have been there, I am there right now and when you find the right tools to work through it you 100% WILL come out stronger on the other side.

Acknowledging that my struggles are real. This is something I do not do. Its mainly because I have found peace and happiness, and I have worked on my healing for so long, that I am deeply committed to staying positive, peaceful, and happy. But I also have tried to make my life, struggle, free, and make it to where its smooth sailing all the time with absolutely zero struggles in life, no sadness, no anger, none of that. I run from those emotions, numb them, or just pretend like theyre not there in hopes that theyll shut off forever. Im hoping that if I keep saying, I dont ever struggle, Im always happy 24 seven, that maybe the struggles will just vanish, and they will magically disappear forever. The distraction method, I think really does work. But, it depends on what youre using for distraction. For me, eating and drinking alcohol and stuff like that, thats a big no-no for me. Music, laughter, or watching one of my favorite things that I enjoy is really a good distraction for me. Even doing certain sensory activities.

I have a lot of guilt and grief that I can't take back the time when I was traumatized in highschool and have irrationally self critical thoughts like you don't know shit because you were wasting time getting traumatized. I'm aware that these thoughts don't have any truth in them and is simply an extrntion of the vary trauma I went through, and that I should focuas on hiw to treat the underlying cause of this trauma, aka my 'anxiety' (situational not clinical) over if the peoole around me will hate me just for feeling that way, even people who I KNOW already accept me. It's been a long journey to get here and I've still got a long journey to go but I've made it this far and over all I'm a way happier person then I was before so I'm readdy to keep going!

The EMBRACE UNCERTAINITY part is like a hard to swallow pill for me.
I Hate not having things under control. The anxiety of what could go wrong is too much that i literally stop doing such activities which have uncertainty. In short, i like playing safe.
Now, i know deep inside this has to change and i have to adapt to uncertainty which is the only way to become a better person overall. But then when im placed in a scenario where i do have the choice between the most uncertain and the least uncertain, i prefer not to go for the uncertain choice
Its like i know what to do but i fear i dont have what it takes to do it.

Is venting an unhealthy coping mechanism? I thought it was the healthiest way to cope with problems, because it helps you to articulate what you feel and why, and helps you understand your situation better than when it's just turbulent emotion? And getting an outside perspective is invaluable at times if you're too zoomed in on the problem.
What is one healthy coping mechanism? I can't cut venting and not replace it with something better? I thought it was the best! Help!

Build a daily routine of positive habits like mediation and gratitude practices, and stick to that as much as you possibly can. And avoid any unnecessary negativity, that means being careful about the content you absorb and the things you talk about regularly. If you're always watching the news or talking about serious issues that you can't do anything about, all of that will have a negative impact on you.

so I dont fall into vuca. but I still know the struggle I feel is real. your not saying information that is accurate. Did you know a lot of phycologists are having trouble treating clients because they know they are lying to their clients to make them feel better? At least the usa does that, cant say that for the world. I studied psychiatry most my life and I wont make a career in it.

I really wish making non-online friends was that easy. I'm in school, this Fall entering an 11th (aka last) grade before going to a university. I have no friends there and I have no friends at all in real life, only online ones. It's not to say that online friends are bad, they actually helped me a lot with my loneliness but it never really changed my anxiety or my 4 years long burnout

hi Psych2Go:
I have a question, if is possible could be answered, what does it mean when you cry just by the simple look or touch of a sentimental object that has happy memories, I am really confused cause a have certain object the if just hold or look at it I start crying? I came here because is the only place that came to ask safe enough to ask.

Thank you for this video. It was meant for me. I am the type that finds it very difficult to part with my comfort zone since basically I find it comfortable and I can momentarily forget my past mistakes. The future also makes me scared and anxious and even when I try to focus on the present, I still end up hooked up in my regret

Interesting list of advice but that last part really doesnt fit. Shes right saying you are in control of your reaction, but then veers into near insanity. Its really more like you choose how you change before things get more difficult or nasty. Reinventing is an art though and so it may take a few tries before you get there.

This one hits really close here!
I'm coping in slightly risky and potentially unhealthy ways.
I have problems living in the moment. And meditation took a hit with the tinnitus.
I have fear regarding not having control.
I value information and like being prepared, so I really try to avoid the unknown.

Yep I've learned it the hard way, the first one, I always convinced myself I was overthinking and tired, but the more it happens, the more I realised I need to stop thinking like that, tricking myself into thinking stuff like that, I'd rather just immedeately cry about it then tricking myself

Be here now. Make a to do list, things just for today or this week. Start with basic things you have been letting go. Do something fun a little thing each day, and a bigger thing once a week. Learn new things and help others learn and grow.

Could you do one of how to get back with an ex. When you're the one that messed up. I constantly shut down and didn't listen to my partner (not abusive. Just didn't listen to advice) i want to make it up to her and show that i changed
reply

So timely, as I am working on my over-reactions now. You help me so much. I saw a certified hypnotist just last week, and my fight/flight response has already improved. Thank you for always being here for me, my friends at Psych2Go.

Wait a minuteIm sorry I may be misinterpreting this but, venting is considered an unhealthy coping mechanism?
How is anyone supposed to reach out for help or let others know there is a problem if you cant talk about it?

reply

I dont have everything figured out, but I've come a long way with little/no help or guidance, and ik you can do it too
Talk to someone, if you can. But if you cant, dont give up.
You hear me?
You. Got. This.

I particularly enjoyed this episode, its really nice to have more insight and straight forward, structured advice about these kinds of things. Especially when theyre simple and easy to understand. Thank you!

My husband and I had a fight this morning basically about things out of our control that could eventually break our relationship and ourselves - this video came at the right time
reply

1: acknowledge that struggle is real
2: avoid unhealthy coping
3: embrace uncertainty
4: ground yourself in the present
5: be open to learning and reinventing yourself

reply

Im sorry I agree with everything but the venting. Its a human emotion, and if you dont have time or space venting can help release the stress of everything you want to say
