I've been feeling awful lately. Yesterday at volleyball we were playing queens of the court which is a game where if you get the ball over the net and the ball hits the ground on the other side you get a point. I was supposed to go on but one of the girls also on the court whispered switch with her to the girl behind me. I just switched. This happens a lot where other girls just skip over me and it hurts. I've recently started a relationship like on saturday. My boyfriend has been commenting about suicide. Even before now. We also haven't had physical contact in months. He says I love you a lot but I have doubts. He gets into a lot of fights. There's this girl on the volleyball team that I really admire. Her names AJ. She's probably the best volleyball player I've ever met but I feel romantic attraction. I hate this. It's wrong. I've always grown up in a christian household and I am a christian myself. Why can't I just go up say hi and become friends with her? Why do I constantly feel like I'm pathetic? I feel like a bad volleyball player and I hate it. I want help Psych2Go.

I have toxic shame from parents, I feel worthless when Im with them, they made me feel like the worst person in the world sometimes. And my self esteem is low that for awhile I couldnt believe I was beautiful, compassionate or friendly. When i get stressed out from them, the only way I learned to cope is by eating and that has lead me to overweight and even more shame they give me so much anxiety sometimes I feel like I couldnt interact with normal ppl, and lately they have limited my social interaction with my friends to the extreme. i could only talk to them online or see them once per month, and trust me Im not a high schooler anymore, Im a freaking 23 y/o. Ive always felt like I couldnt do stuff so i self-sabotage before I can get hurt as I grow older, Im trying to adapt better but I think truly leaving the environment is whats healthy for me

For me my shame, depression and anxiety manifested itself in things like not being able to open my letter box (at some point there were letters inside my letterbox that were over a year old - have solved this problem, having problems taking out trash because I feared being judged by my neighbors which led to me also not cleaning out my fridge (which lead to more shame and being unable to invite people - really working on this, especially the fridge thing) as well as not cleaning up my terrace which meant I could not use my outside space. my flat got really messy (still is - I am working on it) and because neighbors and or my landlord can see into my flat, I don't pull the blinds up to hide my shame.
I am slowly working myself up to a place I can use and enjoy my flat without fearing to be judged or feeling ashamed for how I live

If you were talking about me right now, all you'd be saying is complete, utter, shameless BULLCRAP. What am I to be ashamed of?
Because I am FAR more forgiving of myself than ANYBODY ELSE IN THE WORLD. HA! I NEVER think negatively about myself - for I am an ALLEVIATION to others around me, I'm only on a never-ending UPWARD spiral - of TRIUMPH and ACCOMPLISHMENT, and whenever I do a good thing, I IMMEDIATELY DANCE TO MYSELF knowing that _I. AM. A. __GOOD. __ PERSON. _
And to all of you that think I'm FAKE? Psssh, what liars! I'm always gonna be 100% PROUD OF MY-SELF, FOREVER.

I just feel so hopeless, i feel like everyones annoyed with me and the fact that my parents put so much pressure on me to get good grades it makes me cry whenever i get anything below a A and whenever i DO get an A they just say well done and thats it; no rewards or anything like that. My parents argue like every day and one time it got so heated to the point where they tried to hit each other. I feel so ashamed of myself whenever i dont meet up to their expectations and it stresses me out.
I cant do this anymore, i feel helpless. I might just end it all.

I've basically held myself in prison for over twenty years because of toxic shame. Even now, going through therapy and struggling with it, I can hear that voice saying Why are you doing all of this? It doesn't matter, it's too late, you can't change anything.
I've made some progress. I promoted my inner prison guard to parole officer. I'm trying to recognize when I actually feel happy so that I can remind myself that yes, I am allowed to be happy. It's going to be a long journey, I'm afraid. but at least I'm taking baby steps in the right direction.

I've bee watching these videos for years to learn more about my high functioning depression and anxiety. But this video is the closest to hitting my problems. Only 3 months ago did i realize that it was the old shame of a failure that needed hours of help from people who were away from their families for me, because of my learning disability that held me down and made me some that truly wants to help others. I found a piece of me worth Loving, and that felt amazing.
Wish this video came out 5 years earlier, lol

+Psych2GoTv As an autist whom the school systems o' the past failed due to immature resources, I've a BULL o' toxic guilt:
0: 511. Burden to others: I'm straining toward others being a burden to ME!
1: 282. Corrector for others' faults: And then some!
2: 083. Chronic despair and/or hopelessness: Not affected.
2: 454. Forestalling future shame: And then some!
3: 305. Bad person / bad action dichotomy: I constantly correct my and others' blunders.

All these things are matching with me. I know I shouldn't think like that or do something like that or keep blaming myself for everything I try to think in a positive way but I can't. I'm always negative to myself and always say sorry to everyone, I try to make people love me and if I fail in that thing I always blam myself. I'm trying really hard to change myself but can't( I'm sorry if there's any mistake in my English cause English is not my first language)

I realise now that most of my shame based depression and anxiety comes from having some extremely negative family members. It just exacerbates the issue. Whats even worse(in some ways) is that they do genuinely care for me and want the best for me, they just manage to express it in the most horrible negative way. They are starting to get better after I completely cracked it once. Would have been good if I did it before I was 34 though.

Avid Psych2Go viewer love and appreciate all these videos. The new animation style is slightly disturbing, something about the movement is quite eery, and seems zombie like.
Anyway as someone who had no idea there was toxic shame I have to admit this resonated with me deeply. I can recognise where I've grown (thankfully) but in other ways I was simply not aware that it held me back so much.

Even with recognizing toxic shame, it is super hard to fix. I wish mental health was an easy thing to fix. Nice work on the videos as always. You have a lovely voice. This helps me figure out what is wrong. But I really want a video on how to help fix Toxic Shame, depression, and anxiety. As pills don't work (for me) and are expensive.

I gotta stop watching these, Im realizing that a lot of the traits I have are apparently really, really bad and are signs I may be depressed, and at the very least critically lonely, which would explain a lot but I honestly dont know and dont want to say anything because of the countless people claiming mental illness to look cool

Great, while I enjoyed the video it still doesn't mean it's not too late. The pain goes on forever, that's what being broken is, the process working and removing undesirable people from the parts of the human experience that matter. I'd give anything for another chance.

Thank you for debunking what I was told all throughout middle school and high school because of my unsatisfactory grades. Thank you for telling me that just because I made a few mistakes does not make me a bad person, nor that everything bad is ultimately my fault.

My ex wife made me feel ashamed of myself, when you're married you tell each other secrets and true feelings about people (not that you dislike them just a trait you dislike. when we divorced she called them and told them what I said.

I relate to all of the signs of toxic shame. I have been shamed by my toxic family a lot. My younger brothers, especially the second youngest, are getting it even worse from going through more narcissistic rage than I have.

Everything matches me except the self-blame, but I think I just have another form of that. I tend to shift the responsibility to the universe because I can't handle my own mistakes, especially if they involve other people.

I'm starting to realize I have these traits, and I didn't know that this was a thing.
should I make a list of topics you've covered that feel like its stuff I'm going through to give to my Therapist( when I get one)

But is this a learned behaviour that we've been taught during our formative years, only to grow up and see it reinforced by society time and time again as those years become decades?
