video description
Guyana is benefiting from Venezuela's unwillingness to change its attitude. Guyana gets to trade with the world and receive investments, whilst Venezuela has closed themselves off from that trade or investment opportunities

Venezuela is a good example of why 'strong man' style governance is a bad long term strategy for a government, even if the strong man is hypothetically perfect they have incentive to weaken all other institutions to prevent them from challenging the leader for power. Chavez was obviously not perfect but he at least seemed more competent than Maduro who was hand picked because he was never going to threaten Chavez while he was alive and now this cartoonishly corrupt and incompetent fool without even a drop of charisma has control of a country. Granted being more competent than Maduro is a very low bar and that very incompetence is what made Maduro so non-threatening to Chavez.

I have said this several times before and I will say it again for those boneheads who have an opinion on Venezuela and Guyana but have no idea what they re talking about: Venezuela is not trying to annex, conquer, invade or colonize Guyana. Venezuela is claiming what is rightfully theirs. This piece of land was stolen by the British some time ago. Ever since, Venezuela has maintained its claim of ownership over the land but the imperialistic British government has an intransigent position.

Your historical explanation for the Venezuelan claim on the Esequibo is severely lacking. The Spanish did claim the Esequibo region first, though they didn t put much effort into settling it. Britain simply came and started settling into already claimed land. And there are very valid historical reasons as to why Venezuela denounced the treaty with the UK, including evidence that the panel was biased and the fact that the U. S. didn t let Venezuela represent itself.

Now that they found all that oil, I doubt that countries like the US will just sit back and do nothing. Because they most likely want to dip their fingers into that black gold too! Or already have a plan in place to benefit from it. Also the USA doesn't like conflict anywhere in the Americas. Too close to home. And the main concern of a conflict for Americans would be a refugee crisis moving to it's borders.
That is my opinion anyways

oil prices are high right now, so its a good time for oil rich Venezuela to capitalize on the advantage and claim more lands. And the US have already shown they are too overwhelmed to react anymore, having to prioritize Taiwan and Israel. Altho, i do not believe this is next war. Yes it appears it will happen in a year or two. I think the next war will be Ethiopia's invasion of Eritria to finally stop being a landlocked nation.

this gets framed as Venezuela annexing Guyanese territory when in reality it's a genuine sovereignty issue. The territory is in dispute and per the Geneva agreement of 1966 it is indisputably in dispute, that is to say that despite Guyana administering the territory they themselves agree that it's just kinda no man's land until the dispute is resolved. They have zero respect for the agreement that they themselves signed.

As a Venezuelan living in Venezuela, I can say that people here act as if nothing is happening and nothing will happen. Most Venezuelans believe that the Esequibo region is part of this country, but it is not something actively claimed by the people. Defending Guyana's sovereignty here is considered treason by the government and is somewhat of a taboo, as most people agree that the region should be part of Venezuela.

I'm Brazilian, and here in South America we're watching some serious tension on our northernmost border because some people were speculating that in order to invade Guyana, Venezuela would have to use Brazilian territory to invade them (Just like Germany crossed Belgium to invade France in WW1 and WW2) and I'm afraid that Brazil might enter a plausible war here to defend her own territory and Guyana's too

American investments? What does Exxon/Mobil actually pay in US taxes?
Approval ratings? Maduro may only have 29%, but Biden's 39% represents a much, much larger number of disapproving, unsatisfied constituents.
Make no mistake, this is not a US conflict. This is the petroleum industry (again) using the US armed forces for free, as per usual. Our lives, our dollars.

What they shouldve done in their boom was figure out to refine their own oil to not rely on their own united states oil refineries (in the u. s) but corruption would've led to a crash in the economy anyways but they would've bounce back and not fallen as hard if they had their independence in their own refineries.

I have yet to see a news article covering this. This tells me 3 things:
1. Our media is so corrupt and care only about stories that bring in
2. There are so many crazy things going on in the world right now
3. This may be something the US government doesn't want being covered for various reasons

This fellow is totally bias (as well as some fake news) and is presenting the case to an English speaking western audience, in no way did he mention anything about the full throttle western economic war (sanctions) and theft (garnished assets and capital) in order to destroy the venezuelan economy

Guyana definitely has the potential to surpass countries like Panama and Ecuador because of its natural wealth. Venezuela has plenty of oil but they messed that up themselves and are obviously jealous. Sanctions will send them back if they are implemented again and they don't want that.

11 Billion barrels of oil is roughly 3-4 months of the global demand. at 100 million barrels of oil per day consumed globally humanity consumes 36. 5 billion barrels a year. billions sound like alot but when demand is measured in 100's of millions it is not.
