Dig into the vast and wild world of fungi, and explore how these organisms evolved to play a range of essential ecological roles. -- The diverse fungal kingdom, which includes everything from baker’s yeast to edible mushrooms to foot infections, has long defied assumptions. Scientists estimate that somewhere between 2 and 12 million species of fungi remain undiscovered either because they’re microscopic, live hidden within other species, or for other unknown reasons. Max G. Levy digs into the vast and wild world of fungi.

The truth is, no matter how bad the economy gets, most of us need to strive for great ideas and also make decisions on how to survive and become successful, although not all of us were financially literate early enough to understand this. For me, I was 40 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps on how to better my life. I went from $120, 000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and with over $895, 000 in net worth. It may not SOUND like a lot, but I’m so proud of myself for it. Now I’m fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $100, 000 annually) with no debts at all. It’s a good feeling! Hopefully, I will retire soon and purchase another new house for my retirement.

One of the worst mass extinctions occurred because when trees first evolved they would die and nothing could eat them so they just built up over eons. Eventually they caught fire scorching the Earth and almost all life on land was wiped out. That is where the majority of our coal comes from. Luckily, fungi figured out how to digest trees so we don't have to worry about that anymore.

I recently learned about pre-trees columns that were made of something that wasn't neither plants, fungi or even like any type of living organisms we know but was a living organisms. It would be nice if Ted could make an episode about those weird columns but there isnt probably enough material to make a five minute video about it.

Psychedelics are one of natures greatest gift to mankind. I'll never forget my first experience a couple months ago and it was such a beautiful experience. It's something that you do, enjoy yourself then move on. Every person should try explore it at least once in their lives in a controlled environment

I mean mind control Maybe I did some stuff and entities showed me how to prove their existence - place an empty soda can onto a computer trackpad to create an antenna and the entities will remote control the cursor movements - the fungi probably reveals a stronger radio connection to aliens I bet.

Ezekiel 47: 12 Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. Nature alone is the ultimate healer. After my experience with psilocybin mushrooms, I cried tears of joy, staring at the ceiling after years of battling anxiety. What a time to be alive.

I don't have the euphoric-love-everyone reaction to psychedelics or X. My experienced friends say that maybe I'm too grounded. I've actually had a few trips of 3. 5g mush's with almost no effects (other than the standard physical side-effect of my gut blowing up.

THATS TERRIFYING especially the ANT part! Actually, everything about them is terrifying! I eat mushrooms and now I am scared they will do something to me. Actually this was very interesting and I'd watch an hour long video about fungi if it existed.
reply

A interesting observation is that because we have learned of plants and animals first in basic science, many think of the mushroom cap to be the actual fungi body when it is just the reproductive parts. The root like structure is the actual fungus

When I used to play D&D with my friends the rule when ordering pizza delivery was never to say we wanted mushrooms we always said fungus on our pizza. The pizza place got used to our pizza order eccentricity.
Good times back then.

I read Shrooms helps with depression and anxiety clears the mind, of all negative thoughts. Now I'm pretty much desperate to make mushrooms, Anyone with a reliable source on where I could get shrooms or psychs

Why was it so important to insert the dark matter lie. You know it was an indoctrination lie. Probably the only point to the video is to cleverly reinforce the Dark matter failed theory and lie. Fix yourself

Radiation-eating I think you might mean eating radiation. Surveillance nanotech grows and spreads through mold found in water and GMO plants. This nanotech attracts directed energies, which kill.

Everything right except the psychedelic part. Do you genuinely think it’s a defence mechanism
Nb: if the info’s tweaked cause of colonialist pressure drop a like ted ed.

reply

Radioactivity is not a chemical process so fungi do not have the ability to neutralize radioactive isotopes. Sorry. Fungi are fascinating but not every claim is correct.

Awesome summary, gorgeously presented. But I'd love some new information, too. Fungi have been en vogue for the longest time. No cutting edge research to share here

Nature can be both a Beautiful and Horrifying.
Fungi has always scared me as a kid because learning about them in school makes me feel so bad for the bugs.

I think I was 6 or 7 in the '80s when I began eating mushrooms after playing Super Mario Bros. thinking that I'll immediately get taller and jump higher

If it hasn't been said today, thanks to the team that puts this together and to the incredible artists that make such simple and beautiful illustrations.
