Many people regard Charles Manson as the boogie man -- one of the most terrifyingly evil men in history. But when you really delve deep into the history of Manson and how he ended up becoming the leader of a murderous cult of teenagers in the 1960s, you'll realize that he was just a lonely, dumb criminal that got way in over his head

First of all, it was incredibly easy to become a cult leader at that time. If you were a man, a little (or a lot) older then the hippies of the day, and a little bit charismatic, you could do it, even if you had failed at everything else you ever tried. Second, before getting out of prison in the 1960s, Manson had been a pimp. So he did have experience in controlling women. Nothing exceptional, just standard stuff that most pimps use. 4th the idea of race war was not unique to him. Lots of white supremacists had it, and many, including a whole new group of them (the Boogaloo Boys, still do. His uncle was a white supremacist, as were many white prisoners he must have encountered. 5th, on a subconscious level, he seemed to be a bad criminal on purpose. He started getting incarcerated at a very early age and seemed to learn to like that environment on some level. He asked not to be let out, in the 1960s. He seemed to have an exceptional talent for getting caught committing crimes which, though often petty, carried large prison sentences. He basically seemed to want to have some fun and then go back inside. Which he did. Unfortunately, his followers seemed to get caught up in his plan to spend the rest of his life in prison, and they wound up doing it, too.

What a relief to hear this approach.
I've felt annoid often in life hearing people praise the intelligence of manipulative psychopaths. When it was really clear that these same psychopaths made incredibly dumb decisions about stuff that was outside the scope of manipulation.
Being specialized in manipulation does NOT make a smart person. It is really easy to manipulate vulnerable people. And there are a lot of vulnerable people because society does a really awful job of raising people in the psychological sense. We learn to read and do math, but we hardly learn to think critically and to stand up for ourselves when authority fails us.

I love how instead of making serial killers/mass murderers, these spooky little camp fire stories. You know, like info graphics, making their subjects look like cute Halloween monsters. This guy is saying it for how it is: these people were pathetic losers who ruined lives and tore families apart. They are given way too much credit to be mentioned. Only to be alerted of, studied for, to know what is evil, and manipulative. They are not celebrities. They are just random assholes who left a shit stain on society. Nothing more, nothing less. Good job on this video.

Thanks for knocking this racist wacko down to size. I don't think you got it totally right. But right enough. I am an introverted loner failed musician not young and the product of an unstable childhood as well, but self respect is dear to me and so is the truth. Get the toxic xsshxlxs OUT of your life and move forward. It saved my life, Manning Up. And I've got my favorite guitar with me right now. Sorry Charlie.

Loved the video, only thing I disagree with is calling How to win friends and influence people, exploitative. I teaches people to be genuinely interested in others and to listen to what they say. Exploitation involves treating people unfairly. Manson may have done so, but that's not what the book teaches.

2: 55 No, no, no! Linda Kessabian testified against Manson and the three girls. The third girl was Leslie Van Houten shown in this picture (R. Kessabian did participate at the Tate residence but turned State witness later. She and Atkins did not participate in the La Bianca murders.

Hey to be fair Dale Carnegie has some really good teachings and it's not just for prisoners, it's classes are still majorly useful in the business world. I don't think it's fair the way you guys trashed on it. Love your videos otherwise though.

Jealous much there narrator? Charlie was clearly far from lonely & one's definition of a loser is highly subjective. Just cuz he knew how to work w/the ladies, in a far superior fashion to yourself-doesn't mean that you have to hate him for it.
reply

Youre making it like Charles Manson had 12 years of education so he shouldve been smarter than he was, but he was basically illiterate. You dont understand that Charles Manson was basically in reformatories his entire life, not traditional schools.

Dumb criminal! His followers were dumb, and beyond that Pathetic. The first publicized Cult, that exposed the desperate part of the '60's. This actually could have happened elsewhere and at any time until the media went crazy on it.
reply

i wouldn't call him a lonely loser cause after all the shit stain did have other ppl around him that was just as misguided to commit these cowardly acts, he was a racist loser and a very sad excuse for a man.
reply

Nice try trying to make him look dumb but he did control the group. He used LSD to control people. He learned from the CIA. And if he was so bad at guitar why did the beach boys record one of his songs? .
reply

Please dont contribute these idiots evil actions to LSD. My girlfriend and so have done acid together about 10 times. We had some beautiful loving experiences on it. Never made me want to murder anyone or anything.

I work at a book distribution warehouse and I see 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' here all the time and it sells like crazy. I find that a little bit more unnerving now o_o;
reply

I don't know what your sources were, but Linda wasn't one of the murderers. She left before the murder and later testified against Susan Atkins, Leslie van Houten and Tex Watson
reply

Your analysis in the opening simply isn't fully accurate. He was an extreme narcissist. You can't apply normal standards to someone who is that deeply mentally disturbed.
reply

Hard to take this video as factual when you don't know that Leslie van Houten was the 3rd girl on trial and Linda Kasabian didn't kill anyone. And where is Tex Watson?
reply

Thank you for calling it like it is. I think the media creates a dramatic story and portrays an altered picture so more people would tune inthats pretty much it
