i feel like nowadays execution is a sentence that benefits the state and not the public. many believe that the criminal (if guilty) is facing a sentence that the court believes fit for their crime aswell as removing them, ultimately removing the population of a criminal. however many others believe that this lets them off easy without forcing them to live their whole feeling a sense of guilt or remorse inside of a prison cell. while both of these are true in some aspects, it appears that as many prisons are likely overcrowded and therefore putting the prison guards at risk of intimidation, overpowering or even rebellion, it seems that it may be easier for the court to give someone being charged with a heinous crime the death penalty to somehow slightly decrease the population within the prison. this may be a stretch but it is evident that the death penalty has less of an impact as many die beforehand and if they make it to their sentence, they havent lived a long life of regret and mental suffering, in turn hoping for remorse or redemption. yet, if they do face the tortures of death row, their life is ultimately cut short. this is of course excluding those that are innocent and are wrongfully executed on behalf of the actual criminal as a result of an insufficient investigation or court trial. these innocent people have no chance of reformation on death row which is alleged to be the main focus of prison systems today. there is evidently no benefit to the death penalty apart from removal, not justice.
this could be a personal opinion but i recommend trying to think of this as an alternative option lol

My biggest problem with capital punishment is the possibility of erroneously executing an innocent person. Sadly, in this country, the competence of prosecutors and cops is primarily judged on the quantity of convictions/cases closed, not the QUALITY of those convictions and closed cases. It is a system that often rewards corruption or just simple stubborn denial of exculpatory evidence.
A prosecuting attorney doesn't get promotions and whatnot for how many accused are found innocent. They get ahead by their conviction rate, and that's why they ignore or even hide/destroy evidence that damages the possibility of a conviction. Cops can be all too happy to do so as well, because the fewer open cases they have, the better they look on paper.
As forensic science and other tools of investigation get more and more deft at nailing the true perp of a crime, I'd like to think that the number of false convictions will go down. perhaps that's wishful thinking but it would be nice to be able to say, If they're on death row, they don't deserve any better treatment than what they're getting, for the SHORT time they'll be there. but again, the thought of an innocent person going through that makes my stomach tie itself in knots.

Well, I wasn't on death row but solitary is worse. If you can imagine a year in a cell, one that you can't clean, and doesn't get cleaned before you go in, with lights on 24 hours a day and your food being made to be finger food, so only a piece of cheese on white bread with fries and Kool aid with maybe some fruit, and no running water, when you have to use the bathroom, you ask the guard, they turn your water on to flush and then you don't even get to wash your hands, you get brought a styrofoam cup of water and a carton of milk with meals and you don't get anything else really. Every 30 minutes they do a check, and to top it off, there's a camera in the corner. So no private time. Now imagine a year or more of that. No bedding, no clothes, no books, no music, just you and your thoughts. It was a very transformative year for me, destructive for most.

The appeals system is a joke. If there is undeniable evidence theyre guilty the sentence should be handed out immediately! No appeals. If there is any shadow of a doubt then they should have a set amount of time they can appeal. 1 year for example. If they cant provide enough evidence in said amount of time to warrant a new trial then the sentence should be carried out. Stop making tax payers pay to keep these people alive to die of old age before their sentence can be carried out.

I'm sorry, but anything they have to endure is nothing compared to the torture and terror they put their innocent victims through. The victim's families also have to suffer the pain and loss of their loved ones every day for the rest of their lives. All of these people made a choice and committed heinous crimes. They deserve to live in cages with NO 'perks'! Also, executions should NOT be delayed for months and years in my opinion.

To me, most are open and shut cases. The ones where they are covered in blood, remains in their house, etc you KNOW they did it. They even said they did it. WHY are we using up 20 years on those? Timothy McVeigh who blew up the OKC building was executed in less than 10 yrs, so its possible. However, if theres enough doubt on the case, despite the criminal trial AND the penalty phase to say death, lets investigate.

Abolish all death sentences except for individuals who were really proven to commit alleged crimes by DNA and other forensic, scientific evidence. Everything else is a crime on humanity, but I guess that wont happen since the private companies running most prisons in the US would go broke, and that wouldnt benefit the republican politicians on their payroll who advocate said prisons, right?

Honestly with the stuff theyve done to get on death row. I reckon the treatment they get is to good for them. Im sure they werent caring and kind to there victims. Maybe they should just go back to the old fashioned rope or firing squads. These methods rarely malfunction if at all. In most cases this is still more humane then they treated there victims.

i believe nobody should be on the row for more than a year especially after appeal. Give them one appeal. If it's unsuccessful, put them down within the week. Otherwise its a waste of taxpayers money. Obviously you have to make damn well sure they're guilty. But if that has been established, don't waste time, space and money. Just get it done

The facts around death row are absolutely repulsive and unacceptable in modern society. Then again, its America, and Im not American, so Ive given up wasting stress over somewhere that never fixes its problems even when it involves kids being shot at school or innocent people being killed for crimes they didnt commit

The reason Texas threw out the last meal request, is because one of the notorious Texas Seven who were involved in the murder of a police officer Christmas Eve 1999, requested all of this elaborate food (look it up I can't remember it all now) and after it was all prepared for him he requested it all to be thrown out.

Once you hit age 50 you realize you are on death row anyway. When the execution comes you dont know but you realize death is actually a real thing and its inevitable. When youre young you can kid yourself that its very far into the future and put it out your mind.

When someone commits murder an gets death penalty they should be executed the same week at least if not sooner because his victims didnt get 2 decades to live they got killed right away so I dont see how its fair to let the murderer live another 20 years

I don't get how we justify killing someone who killed someone to prove killing is wrong. I think a life sentence is much more harsh. They have to spend 50 plus years behind a wall knowing they will never leave. Dying is a way for them to escape.

What a barbaric, backwards, inhumane system.
What's worse, is that we know for a fact that innocent people have been murdered by the state under this system of so-called justice. That fact alone should be enough to ban the practice completely

I've never really understood the term botched execution. To me a botched execution is one where the inmate survives. If you gotta stick them with 15 needles until they have a heart attack, then it sounds like a successful execution to me.

The part that makes me feel bad is that someone is usually profiting off of the human misery generated from prisons. Unfortunately there's so many other things wrong in this country that prison reform is pretty low on the list
