Unbelievable Facts About Biosphere 2, The Largest Contained Experiment Ever

Nowadays, the ambitious and wild Biosphere 2 experiment is only remembered as a footnote to the Pauly Shore film Bio-Dome, which is a shame. The Biosphere 2 project was ambitious, idealistic, and apocalyptic; it was some pretty crazy science wrought with drama, intrigue, cults, and billionaires. There are many wild Biosphere 2 stories as a testament to this fact. In short, its movie should have been a David Fincher thriller instead of a low-budget comedy. J. C.: Shows just some of the major flaws in the green agenda. This is what happens when you try to make humans behave antithetical to our nature. We cant just change our diet & all these things w/o serious consequences

The saddest part of the project was the questionable qualifications of the scientists. The way the experiment was built was also asinine. All of those ecosystems in a small area? Nobody consulted an ecologist, clearly. And the materials! None tested beforehand. Creatures in the cement sucked up all of the oxygen.
Money doesn t buy success with randos lumped into an unscientific hunk of junk.
This was not science. It was an example of a non scientist throwing money around while ignoring qualified experts. You know, the way EMusk trashed Twitter.

It s a shame all the in-fighting among the scientists and corporate greed botched the experiment. We laugh at it now, but the overall idea is actually really neat. But the other part of living in a biosphere for that long is the psychological side of things. If anything, this experiment showed a lot about the human condition.

Wasn't expecting to see a Pizza Hut reference!
Today is National Pizza Party day and Pizza Hut is giving a free personal pan pizzas to anyone that buys at least a medium pizza.
Maybe the BOOK IT! Program will be resurrected?

I visited the Biosphere II last summer, and it was weird and interesting. The Biosphere is effective at growing mold. Don't visit the indoor rainforest if you can avoid it. I wouldn't go back.

I'm from Phoenix and can remember like it was yesterday, taking a 5th grade field trip to the Biosphere. What an amazing experience that was! Thank you for doing this video!

KY jelly was used on the cups because it would make it impossible for the roaches to climb up the sides and away from the bottom of the cups and get out.

Biosphere 2 being only remembered because of Bio-Dome is just too cruel. Legend has it that the NSA uses it to legally torture political prisoners.

Throw in a Bannon. I would leave as soon as some said a non scientist is moving in. He is the 80s version of a bad time. The second team was just sad.

Have you guys covered that Tuskegee thing? I have only heard a few references about it but surely Weird History can give us a good break down!

Just a small point of correction. You Can open all the doors on a space station it's just that you don't Want to open the doors on a space station.

Concepts for Biosphere 2 were originally concepts for the Land Pavilion in Epcot, before the Imagineers deemed it impossible to do.
