Thats not to say that grasslands did not give us an advantage once we humans were able to develop it. Sweating and walking upright had another advantage: it gave us the biomechanical means to be endurance hunters instead of the ambush techniques utilized by most predators. That is, we chased down our prey to exhaustion. Only another group of mammals use this technique, the canines, but other than that, no other eukaryotic life form uses endurance to hunt. Big cats give a chase initially but they usually give up after a few seconds. Most of our prey are not adapted to this type of hunting other and could explain the rapid extinctions of many species once modern humans showed up. It also explains why painted dogs have such high rates of success when they hunt. They also use the endurance hunting technique.
Its also possible that these adaptations predisposed us to the development of civilization since no other animal with higher intelligence exhibit this trait except us. Perhaps this type of extended mobility leads to bigger brains relative to body size. The same thing has been observed in dinosaurs and birds. Basically bigger brains relative to body sized developed once powered flight showed up in the fossil evidence.
