What if China wasn't Communist? Kan: Spot on to use Long Match as POD. Wang Ming (rival of Mao) was served as CCP delegation to the Comintern at Moscow at the time, so if we presume the general rundown of WWII still play out as IOTL, Wang would ride with Red Army in August Storm; Stalin would use Red Army garrison at Manchuria and separatist movement at East Turkestan as leverage to force Chiang to legalize Wang's rump CCP, Chiang being Chiang, reject it (at some points between late 1945 to 48, Soviet duly install satellite state at East Turkestan and install Wang as head of PRC at Manchuria (by the time Manchus were already minority there, so no People's Republic of Manchuria or DPRM namesake. Red Army stayed (but not too large, Europe is still Stalin's major concern) at these buffer states (plus Mongolia) as deterrence of Chiang's Irredentism, Chiang would took advantage of this and declared Martial Law, thus became leader for life a la OTL. While Truman still sick and tired of Chiang's corruption and oppression, so no extra military aid and major US military presence (except legacy China Marine) by these point.
I'll go over 1950's onward if interested.

for MY OWN selfish impulses and sensibilities this is what I think an alternate China should be like
1) Obviously the Nationalists defeat Mao Zedong and the CCP
2) get rid of Turkistan (Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia and Manchuria
3) establish a democratic society
4) find better leaders than Chiang Kai-shek who are more befitting of a REAL democratic China
5) ask Hong Kong and Macau if they want to freely rejoin the mainland
6) be similar to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, etc.
7) establish good relations with the U. S.
8) maintain good leadership and government
9) have friendly competition with the U. S, Japan, Korea, etc.
10) rebuild and create a new China based on Chinese traditions and not on KMT
and if anything Mao Zedong and Kim Il-Sung and all their communist forces would be pushed back into Mongolia, Manchuria, and Siberia (USSR)
we can debate over causes and effects, eventualities, consequential logistics and what have you but subjectively speaking in terms of wishful thinking and daydreaming this is how I would want China to be like
what do u think?

Communism is one of the. no, THE worst thing that happened in the history of Mankind. Communism is nothing more than an outright lie, a paragon of deceit and despair. This Red evil system IS the very definition of failure and anti-humanism in its purest form. Way too bad that the West slacked of at the end and right after the Second World War. Oh, how the world would litrally way, WAAYYY more advanced, developed and propsperous if the Nationalists had one. There is absolutely. and I will say it again and repeatedly, that communism is the utmost setback in terms of freedom, personal liberties, and the overall progress of humanity. Communism literally has the colour of the blood of the many inncocent and defenceless people that died at the hands of it. More than ever, the evil, vile, psychopathic CCP asshats that are at the helm of todays People's Republic of China MUST be shunned, questioned, barred and fought on every front conceivable. COMMUNISM IS THE VERY HIGHWAY TO DEATH AND DESTRUCTION OF HUMANITY: IT MUST BE STOPPED, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!

Since the Chinese Republic wouldn't have the cultural revolution which saw the purging of many intellectuals who had counter revolutionary ideas, I could see China developing a space program in the 60s or 70s perhaps with backing from the US in order to spy on the Soviets. Imagine the Shenzhou being launched in the 70s. I could also see China planning their own moon landing following the end of the American Soviet space race. The Chinese would probably try to attract many NASA engineers to work on their Rockets as the Apollo program had been mothballed. This would mean they wouldn't have to do any of the experimentation needed to build rocket system capable of reaching Luna. This might lead to a new space race between the Americans and the Chinese to see who could colonize Luna first. Without the massive brain drain the cultural revolution had on China, this could push our technology ahead a few decades.

Then theyre wouldnt be military juntas in Burma/Myanmar. The reason why Burma got into this mess is because of an insurgency by Kuomintang forces that were trapped in side of Yunnan province of China, using Burma as a staging area to attack Yunnan province. Combined with the other insurgencies in Burma, this made the army quite powerful in Burma. When the government almost gave independence to the Shan and Kachin states, this made the army very concerned about the future of the Union of Burma. Theyre concerned that it would spark a chain reaction that would result in the dissolution of the Union of Burma. So they staged a coup dtat. Without China becoming communist, they wouldnt have to deal with a Kuomintang insurgency inside of Burma. This would also mean that Burma would remain an asian tiger economy.

Mao wasn't killed during the Long March because Chiang Kai Shek was hesitant to kill off the Communists entirely. He had spotter planes following them all the time and they were on the verge of collapse numerous times. Chaing's only son was effectively a hostage in Moscow, as the Nationalists and Communists both received military equipment at various times from the Soviets. Chaing knew that if he completely defeated the Communists his only son would likely be killed in retribution. Chaing's Confucian beliefs regarding the imperative need for a male heir are why Mao escaped with his life, not so much his tactical prowess during the Long March.

There would be no North and South Vietnam in the first place but either be independent or spoke French. I don't think USSR can help with China in between so Vietnam will somehow independent peacefully as France wouldn't be able to keep a foreign territory that large, and if yes, there may not be a balance between France and Germany to form EU, and if there was EU, then France would be super economy and will not have enough social welfare so would be much more competitive.

There was a Muslim warlord that had immense respect and loyalty to Chiang Kai Shek. Chinese Muslims loved Chiang. Idk why the Uighars would be opressed by this China at all. If they were in any way it wouldn't be near as bad as their current oppression. And idk why overnight at the collapse of the soviet union they would suddenly become our enemies. We supported them when they fought the communists in their civil war.

I don't see China engaging in a cold war with the US in this timeline. Instead I would say it's more likely that would be an economic rivalry between the US and the Chinese Republic following the conclusion of the Cold War much like how Japan did in the 80s. There might even be anti-chinese sentiment from American companies and the public-at-large when the Chinese try to buy into the American Market.

I doubt Japan would be an American ally in this scenario. The only real reason why America became allies with Japan after WW2 is because they needed a strong Asian ally against communism (also to show how capitalism in Japan worked wonders. With China as an allied capitalist nation, this would no longer be necessary. Also, China and Korea HATED Japan, and the US wouldnt want to offend them.
