2) low interest rates - this was also partly because of the Iraq war
3) Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae giving loans to people who couldn't afford them guaranteed by the US government
4) the bad handling of the dot-com bust
One of the reasons for the financial crisis are the measures taken by the Bush administration during the War on Terror and the War in Iraq, which lead to the crisis being worse than it should've been. Without these meassures the crisis would be much less severe. What this would mean I leave up to you

I actually wrote my own alt history scenario on this. The biggest change is Saddam Hussein would have ruled on until his death, which means no ISIS, but upon his death an Iraqi civil war would happen, between his sons, the military, and kurdish rebels. Also John Kerry would have won the 2004 election and been a 2 term president which means no Obama and I also predict that right now Mitt Romney would be our president and this year's election would have been between either Obama or Hillary and some other Republican.

Me personally I just have a sense that life became shitty and lesser Because of the Attacks, but thats not all true of course, I mean I was born only in Early 90s so between living through the T. V. and News of what happened and Growing up in General Can Effect ones Perception in Life

History would have likely been much closer to our timeline than even yours if 9/11 had not happened. But you had good thoughts and I understand your rationality (and how boring would it be to say, Well, pretty much everything important would be about the same.

What if 9/11 hadn't happened. well if we assume that financial crises still happens then someone would have hijacked planes and smash them int WTC. why because before the attacks the WTC was financial center.
