How the Baby Boomers Ruined Society
video description
Also, an interesting point I discussed with my therapist, because I suffer terrible anxiety. She asked me Did you notice how all the media and people are saying the world is ending, the world has never been more horrible, what the hell is up with the world lately? What do you think of it? , and I replied: Well, I think it's just that we have means of information that spread stories like that, and that people don't realize the world's always been like that, it's just that before it was harder to spread information. And bad news travels extremely much faster that good ones.
And then she said: There, in your sentence: 'the world's always been like this'. The current generation are seeing History return to its usual, millienia old course, that is never ended but was just on Pause for 75 years, and they're not willing to make their peace with that.
To which I could only reply flabbergasted: Holy sh-.

The point about Television is really interesting. My grandparents (the boomers in my family) never owned one because they thought television was demonic and because of that my parents were generally very skeptical of it and I didn't watch much growing up. I think they were absolutely right about that.
I think something people don't appreciate is that smartphones have essentially turned computers into a kind of high powered television with all of the bad things TV did amplified. I've been living without one for a year and it's made me much happier and mentally present. I can't recommend enough throwing out your smartphone and buying a 20 flipphone to keep in the kitchen.
I think there's some confusion when you talk about boomers looking conservative to younger generations. The younger half of Gen Z is majority first and second generation immigrants. They see the boomer's ideology as foreign and backwards to their own but I' not convinced most of the White people in these generations feel that. I'm not sure it makes sense to talk about the opinions of the younger generations in the US as a single block because so many of them really aren't effectively American.
The boomers think they can just print money because they grew up in an era of positive birthrates. If inflation isn't matched to birthrates you don't get growth, just inflation and destruction.

This is the environment in which you were born. This is the world that you have come to serve. This is the situation for which you have been preparing all your life. This is the great set of circumstances that will either defeat you or elevate you.
If you can consider these things without fear or apprehension, if you can take this position, however difficult it may seem in the moment, you will begin to see something you could not see before. You will be able to gain a sense of life and your place in life beyond the extremely limited parameters of personal preoccupation. And here you will see that personal preoccupation is the prison house in which everyone lives and which everyone builds for themselves. And you will see that liberation exists beyond this prison house. It exists beyond individuals being preoccupied with themselves their wants, their fears, their needs.
For when you are engaged in a greater life, you begin to live a greater life. When you can face a greater reality outside of yourself, you will begin to experience a Greater Reality within yourself. If you live in isolation in a human world, with human ideals, human values and human preoccupations, that is all you will experience.
A quote from - _Preparing for the Greater Community_ - and incredible (free online) book by Marshall Vian Summers that I warmly recommend.

Every generation believes they will do better and eventually they will make mistakes that the following generation will try to fix. As you pointed out, the generation that preceded us boomers (and has allegedly left such remarkable events in history) produced a global war and left huge ruins to rebuild from (I'm from Italy, we were not 'wealthy' at all, that much I can assure you. We were not having a lavish lifestyle of self affirmation and breaking all the rules of morals or tradition; some did, it was actually a minority. Younger generations don't have to face that level of destruction, it's a different situation altogether, plus you have means we didn't have; so whatever mistake was done, go on and fix it. The generations after yours will fix the problems you will inevitably create. Yes, that's how it is. And the world is not going to collapse because of climate change, pollution like plastic maybe, but not climate change for God's sake (they were telling this story of climate change when I was in high school, back then it was 'incumbent ice-age' - never happened.

The truth is we re far too down the rabbit hole to actually change course. The boomers are set in their own ways and the rest of us are scrambling for whatever we can get before this golden age inevitably collapses in on its self. Which will throw the world into chaos and either us, our kids, or even our grandkids will have to clean up whatever is left over. Even if the boomers deny it. History will look back on them in distain. My dad and family have all given up on any change.
Also another fact on top of the baby boomers failure is the enormous amounts of entertainment and distractions from everyday life.
The boomers have made so much entertainment to distract the younger generations from seeing their failures and have convinced most that all life is entertainment. Nothing more nothing less.
Not to completely blame them but their success has blinded them to their own faults.
Sadly our grandkids or even great grandkids will have to deal with our mistakes.
God forgive us.

4: 50 False. Depression was caused by the collapsing stock bubble, which had been going on since the early 1920s. Overnight, much of the populations lost all their savings, and banks and financial institutions collapsed. The effects spiralled and the panic spread to the rest of the economy. This caused high unemployment and social problems. Another reason was crop failure in Midwest occuring due to dust storms and floods that damaged the countryside. Many countries abandoned the gold standard, and took on massive debt. Another reason of the depression was the role of the FED and its role in giving credit too cheap for a low interest rate.

My boomer grandparents, after making tons of money on the stock market and buying a bunch of property for a low price, sold all of their assets, and are trying to burn through all of their money on travel, frivolous expenses, and expensive retirement communities - all after being abusive parents to my parents, blatant racists, and raging narcissists. They have done nothing good for the world, whatsoever, but are convinced that having money makes them good people. For my entire life they ve had nothing to say about me and my siblings except that we re lazy and ruining the world. I have no respect for them.

I can disagree or agree with you, but in the end you have interesting opinions and there's always something in them, a more zoo-biological perspective on humanity, it really made me think.
I used to think that it is given that everything is as it is, our rights, our food our everything is the way it is because of faith, but wouldn't think about it too much. Now I realize that if we didn't have as much food as we have now or if things as little as coffee didn't exist, we wouldn't have all this, kinda makes anxious actually, but I prefer this outlook on life.

As a Gen Z individual, I think that 80 year framework is exactly right. We live in the age where there is a new wave of conservativism, with reactionary intellectuals such as Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Tate becoming increasingly popular among Gen Z because the baby boomer narrative pushed upon them has essentially branded them all racist misogynists where any and all success is blamed upon so-called privilege and oppression. The 2030s will be the time when this Gen Z has maximal impact on society, as they would be in the prime of their lives then.

As a Gen Zer, I definitely think he made some really good points- however I don t think we ve moved too far left socially. The boomers just got stuck. Every time there s a massive conservative revolution it s because of a generation getting stuck and turning right. 1980 was caused by Silents and Older Boomers. 1994 was because of Younger Boomers. 2016 was due to Gen X and older Millenials. At some point (likely the late 2030s) Gen Z will start to turn right, and by 2050 we ll be just as uncool as boomers!

I usually like your work, but this offering lacks courage. If you were to pick a single cause for the current societal malaise, it would be the decline of religion. You circled around it, with hints of moral collapse, but were unwilling to come out and say it.
Constructing a better world from the ashes is going to require a better society. Real morals don't come from made-up systems perfectly designed to never push you anywhere you don't want to go.

I often worry about how far the zoomers corrections to boomer actions would be and how much of a over correction my generation will make.
My generation will have alot of cleanup to do and considering those with gaurd rails are so nhilistic to the point of not participating will leave the cleanup and repair to those who are so arogant to think they can do anything which they cant.
I doubt theres any way this situation lasts but I still worry

You are confusing boomers with urban boomers. By the time I entered high school urban areas were considered areas of rot. predominantly rural populations of Iowa Minnesota North and South Dakota and Nebraska were already on average more educated than the urban areas. These areas had primarily German and Scandinavian heritage and highly valued education Urban ignorance and arrogance were already wildly apparent and on display in the 60's riots.

Reality: In 1968, self-described hippies represented just under 0. 2% of the U. S. population and dwindled away by mid-1970s. Images of people that freak out norms sell papers, magazines, tv and films, so you'll see alot of them, and, in doing so, get a very false impression of the dull reality.
You: look at the pleasure seeking hippies! Decadence! decadence! everywhere, lazy selfish good-for-nothing, decadence! They ruined my world!

Reminds me of how I figured that today's world isn't at all Tolerant. It's just ignorant. When you say, there's no problem with X because what X does in their private time doesn't affect you, well, that's not tolerance, it's just ignorance, or lack of care. You don't care. Tolerating something means that you know there's something that opposes you yet you accept it. As such, I think the modern world is way too complacent.
