Two lonely romantics go to absurd lengths to be anyone but themselves. Vessel by Ethan Godel Connect with the Filmmaker: More About Vessel: Thomas and Lucy are on a date. It’s going well. Really well. The chemistry is palpable - there is never a dull moment, never a lull in conversation. These two seem perfect for each other. Thomas waxes poetic on T. S. Elliot’s prose, Lucy recites her favourite stanzas They are the envy of every couple in the restaurant. But if these jealous couples just looked a little closer, beyond the big words and fancy clothes, they would find something very peculiar. Unbeknownst to each other and other restaurant patrons, Thomas and Lucy each sport a discreet earpiece. And, through their respective earpieces, these passionate and soulful lovers’’ are being told exactly what to do and say. Yes, relationships are without a doubt exhausting and anxiety-provoking, but what if there were a service that could all but assure success on date night And every date after that VESSEL tracks Thomas and Lucy's relationship, from first day to the alter, taking viewers to an alternate reality, where some inhabitants submit themselves to an enigmatic Operating Service that controls the entirety of their romantic lives. Wow, Another black man white woman relationship! How original for a Dust short film. For the love of god stop pushing social engineering in your films. It’s so played out it actually detracts from would would be decent sci-fi. Try using an Asian man and a Hispanic woman, or how about a Hispanic man and black woman But nope! Always the played out trope, we need diversity, therefore the ole Blackman white woman stereo type. It’s almost as if people receive money to interject this into their stories ( that’s sarcasm) because organizations actually do pay for that.

Not being ourselves in relationships of all kinds really. people seem to depend a lot on what others are telling us to say and to do. real communication is key and not being fake or pretentious. we should see one another as we are and as we see ourselves and love one another of our own free will. not on the words of others. Especially through the use of social media.

I was thinking we would all be lost if we didn’t have a little voice in our heads.
Same difference really.
Except the little voicei is the consciousness personified.
In thier universe/reality, this is that little voice, a conscience.
Without it you feel lost, out of control, and numb.
That’s what I took from the

What's the moral of the story Can someone explain to me because i find it a bit hard to get I liked the whole thing but I just don't understand it Are those people real And is it some sort of a simulation for people who can't express their feelings and they apply for this simulation so they can talk and have a dating experience

When people don't know what to do, they'll do what they see other people do. When people don't know what to say, they'll say what they hear other people say. The pandemic has shown us this. Instead of people thinking for themselves, they just follow other people. It's the one hundredth monkey effect, monkey see monkey do.

The man talking about how the rain made him feel at the end and we see that the rain is coming from a hose. Not real. Not an actual relationship. When the service was gone there was nothing. So deep and meaningful, and a powerful, artistically spectacular warning. Thank you very much for creating this!

So people cant say even word without speakers, i dont want future like that - even now so much fakes spread in life, in this shortfilm real happens when speaker havent come to his job and man start realise himself. Id say its just weird dream, you wake up after and think what a hell.

Slightly conflicted about this one. In and of itself this was great and it was certainly well made and acted but the Cyrano de Bergerac trope where both of them have someone in their ear has perhaps been done enough to be a trope of it's own.

This is an excellent inventive film with a provocative concept organized in indoctrinated dating style. I don't understand why there are so many dislikes! Oh! they are all gone now; you can't see them anymore

Everyone could use a little help now and then but this is a bit too much help. lol. Well done. Poor Tom. Lost connection at such a time and all you need is a simple I do. Unless you don't.

Ouch. The message behind the film to me was oh no, PLEASE payed provider- tell me what to think and/or say! -I don't know which is more sad; being the customer, or the person doing the work.

You can act when you can nail the subtleties of facial expressions.
If the director sees this, please pass on to Tim Blair how good of a scene he made it when he froze at the alter.

I loathed it. But then I realized that it was the acting which was good enough for me to strongly dislike the reality you depicted. Damn it that was well done. I still hate it.

Hearing about poetry made me think of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Telltale Heart. I’d love my partner to read it. He’s really good at it especially with playing a madman
reply

Wait, hasn't this already been done Only towards the end they turn it over to the two people. yea, this has already been done people, right here on DUST.

that dude raining the window really killed me and really sad, showing the insecureness and social inability of us all, which is kinda chilling

Not that implausible at all. .. somewhere in the near future. Imagine something like this, merging with the potentially evolving metaverse.

W. T. F Too short with way too little detail. I felt more like I was thrown into the middle of the story. It did not much sense.

When the influencer take over your life, where did you get this idea wierd but the screenplay and the montage and the actors made it so normal

Great film. Never realized that most dating and social interactions seems like we’re following a script based on others advise.

In the beginning I was like, Why is the conversation so feelingless
Then I figured, that's all the film is about. Great Job.

Blasphemy, disgraceful use of language towards GOD our father. Repent your sins, Return to GOD. GOD'S Wrath is Coming.

The old saying, Nothing is as it seems, can also apply to people as well as. things. Very nicely done film!

Loved it! Only change I'd make is to only very, very briefly showing a hand with the sprayer in it!

I think this is a great idea and very well presented. Never has two wrongs been so right.

Is an accurate indictment of the make believe world of Internet relationships.
