A man uses holographic tools to build an idyllic world as a subconscious playground for his love. World Builder by Bruce Branit This is possible TODAY: D
One amazing thing with this video, is that when it was made THIS was Science fiction. But today we have the hardware to actually do this (VR headsets & such, yes a bit cumbersome tech, but possible, all that is needed is for someone to assemble the software, we have full body tracking, possible AI to determine the intended meaning of the body motions, some kind of 3D modeling environment like Blender or Unreal Engine or so. connecting all those pieces and we have THIS, TODAY! :D

Must have been huge amount of work, to do all the 3D for this. Plotwise, though, it lacks a few important bits which left me with questions. If the woman is in a safe, controlled environment, why does he only have an hour to create the world Why does the woman leave this fast eventhough she clearly doesnt want to Why is the world deleted rather than saved Why are they not allowed to see eachother
Sadly we only got to know 3 things: She is sick. He loves her. They have cool technology.

Honestly, I would LOVE to have a job just being the one to build worlds like that for VR game worlds that is indistinguishable from reality. I can't wait for VR tech to get to that point. Because I think physically building a world with your hands would be SO much more satisfying then doing it with a controller or a mouse and keyboard. Would most definitely give you that god sim vibe. Lol.

i come back to this video only to realize we now have artificial intelligence that can generate images, sounds, music, videos, movies, text, books. code, generating 3d worlds from simple images. its insane what the world has come to.

Marvellous piece of film art - right in the beginning I feart something like the end. Have currently a reformation project ongoing on my house, I think I need to exchange also the guys working with the guy from the short, -)

I first saw this maybe ten years ago. It's no less amazing today than it was then. Truly incredible piece of work, told without a word yet everything we need to know is conveyed effortlessly.

He created a false memory in her mind. And how it was so temporary basically she is without a psychological mind state. She’s clinically dead, but a vegetable with little neurological energy.

That was an excellent short film. I am learning Unreal 5 game engine, and can totally relate to the modelling. No dialogue, but not needed. Excellent story telling, brought forward real emotions.

I remember watching this ages ago. I completely forgot the sad story behind it, but the virtual world building is something that stayed with me. It was way ahead of its time

First DUST short I've watched - and I've watched a lot of them - that's just completely uninteresting. Done to death concept. Sorry. Just being honest.

I first saw it on March 29 2011. I know it very well as I was touched so much that I saved it in case it would be deleted. After 10 years still superb.

Will someone please explain it to me
We see in the end she's in a Neuro Holographic Recovery Unit
Is this a form of brain damage recovery

I am amazed only 363k views; 3 years. I was flipping out when he copied and pasted the Buildings near the beginning. Highly impressed!

so beautiful, so sad, i think he must have spent time in Second Life, 'cause world building, almost as portrayed, is what we do there,

Well done thank you for the team behind this love how it felt so natural how he put everything together from that starting square

Beyond the special effects and all the sci-fi tech stuff, I liked the story. Sensible, touchy, and surprisingly convincing.
reply

Dang, if only modelling 3D art and animation were actually as easy as it is for that guy.
Really nice work, big Thumbs Up.

Such a beautiful story, so very well accomplished! It was an amazing walk through the love a man has for a woman. Bravo!

lol, world destroyer. wwhy do people still think tech is helpful destroying earth to make cities, we don't need that, none of it.

If I ever have to do this for my wife, she's going to find herself fully nude and somewhat bustier than she is in real life.

First time seeing this, it's my favorite Dust short so far. And I read it is 12 years old, so that is even more impressive.

I usually love these.
But the first seven minutes just seemed like an extra long commercial for some software.

This is what I felt in Unreal engine VR editor. But it's hard! Now I am back to mouse and flat screen.

Oculus Quest's now free tool Gravity Sketch is almost this. It misses mainly the textures

This was impressive. Much better than the usual gloom, doom and depressing Dust videos.

In the future, this will be reality and it will consider a job.

7: 52 was the perfect ending. The rest ruined it IMHO. Overexplaining.
