BRILLIANT! and of course the stellar performance of Karen Gillan elevates this twenty-minute gem to the status of masterpiece. Potent, unadulterated, straight-up, no embellishments, no beating around the bush. A skilled shot, aimed straight for the heart, that hits the target with the accuracy of a guided missile. Nothing is forced, overwritten, or overplayed. Everything is in perfect equilibrium, traveling with grace, lightness, speed, and ease, through the intricate jungle of our synapses, providing wonder, delight, and inspiring satisfaction. What a treat!

Ideas are cheap. That's why they give them out to people. The real deal is in making those ideas become reality. This is the hardest part. Lots of people have lots of ideas, and those ideas might even be great. But not many people are determined enough to make the hard work of polishing the idea and bringing it to the world. That's why only those people (and their ideas) succeed.

I liked it. The eureka was not the running in her mind it was the ending. But once done it became apparent the journey was the important part.
A parable on life.
Well played. I look forward to seeing more from you.
Remember, while everyone else is worried about which side of the box their on, some of us have never seen a box. Only every possibility.

I totally cracked up at the end--when she's sitting in the dreamworld and John phases out and the John choir cranks up! Karen Gillian was amazing in this short. Plus I'm huge fan of Eureka --watch the entire series again earlier this year. This is the lovely skewed sense of humor I enjoyed with Eureka and miss so much!

I thought the Tom and Jerry cartoon was great!
Be careful what you wish for. Because you just might get it. Then what It's like Jessie Owens training every day to finally win the Olympics. He won. Then there was no more purpose in his life. So he moves to Arizona, starts smoking and dies of lung cancer. :(

Hey everybody! My name’s Nick Kocher, I wrote eureka! and am so glad you’re all enjoying it! If you have any questions, sound off in the comments, and I’ll answer as many as I can until someone says exactly one mean thing to me and then you’ll never hear from me ever again.
most of you

That girl in the support group with the striped sweater was in the show Ghosts as one of her Cholera ghosts in the hotel’s basement run by two people and the woman can see ghosts. It’s great to see that lady in something else. Just can’t remember her name.

Meh, it was ok. Maybe next time they get a fabulous actress to star in a short it should be their best work, not their most average piece. Gillian was fantastic, but honestly the plot, moral, purpose (not really sure there was any, left me scratching my head.

Great story. I may be overthinking it, but I have a suspicion that Karen's character was given the idea to inspire David Dastmalchian's character. It's just too coincidental that he is a Tom and Jerry aficionado and in the same support group as her sister.

[SPOILER ALERT ]
horrible ending. i feel i was robbed of 20 minutes. for 19 minutes i was right there with you. i was almost enjoying it, but then came that disasterous ending. im going to go bed and cry now.

I’m so sorry! I have a good understanding of written English but some lack of listening. Can anyone help me to understand the last scene I really couldn’t get it! P. D. Karen is so lovely!
reply

I liked it a lot. Not because of the main story. The main story was just a long stretched joke, but all the lovely little funny details in the dialogue made it really funny and enjoyable. Do it again!

Greetings from Scotland! Best idea you ever had, getting our wee Inverness lassie Karen Gillan to play the lead! She is able to play any character she puts her mind to! Loved it!
reply

This is just so charming and funny. It reminds me of the kind of underwhelming ideas that I often have; with the exact same effects on the people around me. Keep 'em coming Mr. Nick.
reply

IK, I have to say this, since I've not seen anyone else say it, but hey, its Betsy Sodaro, who is Nancy (one of the basement ghosts) from the US version of Ghost!
reply

Some ideas can not even be saved by Karen Gillan. I feel dirty for skipping through a Karen Gillan vid but my gut feeling was right and I stand by my decision.
reply

Nickkocher - certainly better than just the punch line! I hope you do more out-of-the-box work. BTW, IMO, this is the best portrayal of the etymology of eureka!

I dont know how can a writter put a life story in a 20 minute film but i am speechless. The last sentence took me on my knees. Well done.
reply

This short is outstandingly good for just being okay. The story is exceptional and she is also an artist by playing a ordinary girl.
reply

I loved how there is actually quite a few layers here and the the whole creative commentary on some ideas are just ok is really fun.
reply

Congratulations: You made Karen Gillan seem uninteresting. That takes supremely negative talent. Don't quit your day jobs.

Chef Chloe (if you don't get it. it's okey-dokey -Roger Rabbit) i'll bake you a carrot cake -Jessica Rabbit

Great Storyline. Great Filmography. Great choice of Lead Actress. Quirky as well as poignant. Thank you.
reply

Ah, I see, the idea of creating this short film was as OK as the Idea in the film. I like the recursive pattern.

What about those billions of little animals called microbes you killed the last time you washed your hands

the light bulb was not Thomas Edison's idea. This is not Science Fiction, this is Fiction Fiction

This had an Everything, Everywhere All At Once vibe. Just absurdist & strange. I kinda liked it.

it'll move you and me in the rogut direction, even if its just an inch.
im a loser too.

I saw that stain on his shirt in the beginning itself and started wondering when would they bring it up.

It's the old parable or truism, sometimes the Wanting is more powerful than the Having
reply

I loved that David Dastmalchian was in this! What an underutilized and fantastic actor!
reply

I guess this was the only way to get your Tom and Jerry idea viewed. Good plan.

If there was ever any question on whether Karen Gillan could act: 13: 41-13: 48
