Let's make a film.
Okay. What do we have
I kind of know some special effects.
Great. Let's do a sci fi. Got any props
Got a roll of plastic sheeting and pvc pipes and some plastic shelves.
Great. I got some stuff from the attic I was going to throw out.
Let's talk later. I'm late for my tap dance class.
WAIT! You tap dance I tap dance!
Yes. It's all coming together.

I like the idea of alien archaeologists trying to make sense of human artifacts, but I'm not a fan of how these aliens are portrayed. It's like the actors were just told to try to act curious but not like humans. So they acted like monkeys when confronted with something they don't know. Carefully hopping around it, prodding it to see if it reacts, sniffing stuff.
Loved the dancing tho.

Western legacy appealing only to Americans. They r so self-centered they even think aliens can be assimilated into tap dancing, which I don’t fall for as the same earthling.
To me, Sci-Fi means tearing down barriers in our thoughts and expanding the horizons with all kinds of imaginations. But what is this It reduces vast explorations in mind back into west-centered mainstream.

Context clues, folks. He clearly realizes what the globe is. He even says a word that sounds like Terra! aka Earth, easily translating to You fool! That was a representation of their world pre-calamity!
Darash could not be more clear either. Not only does it sound like trash, they're saying to each other Is this trash Should we toss it Better call in the boss and see what she thinks.

Fabulous. Just fabulous. They took an idea from an old Arthur c Clarke story in which the climax was the reveal to the audience of a Disney cartoon as the sole remaining historical evidence of human beings, and turned it into a terrifically entertaining trio of tap dancing aliens. I loved it.

I had a bit of trouble suspending belief enough for the story. Aliens wielding incredible technology incapable of recognizing a scale model of the world they are orbiting, but can figure out a juke box and tapdancing. Then, suddenly, it occurred to me that I may know a few humans on that level.

It was only when they discovered Jazz's development that they decided to travel back in time to blow-up the earth, to prevent themselves from ever discovering it, and stopping the horrors of jazz being inflicted on an otherwise unsuspecting universe.

This makes me both very happy and very sad. I guess if music is left after we're gone, that's not so terrible. Of course, they could have totally changed the story by ending with, maybe we shouldn't have blown it up.

Another proof that music is the best invention of mankind. It has the power of bringing people together no matter where you’re from. Just the opposite of religion, the worst invention of mankind.

Heh, so who knew that the Tap dancing for universal brotherhood gag from _The Stan Freberg Show_ was telling us how universal tap would be
(Episode 9: The Abominable Snowman Revisited 1957-09-15)

4 yrs and many viewings later this remains my fave short film in any genre. What a fun interesting and poignant way for these 3 great dancers/actors to showcase their talents.
reply

I love how they throw away a tape, which could have contained useless static, or a detailed lecture on human history. Potential gold mine of information right there
reply

Great concept and production. Alientology of music and dance after the destruction of Earth civilizations At least music might survive human extinction.
reply

The solo piano playing a melancholy version of After You've Gone just put me in tears. This was a glorious tribute to the once great human race.
reply

This was like some weird interlude in a 50s musical, I love it. It's like that thing in Singing in the Rain! What the hell was that all about.
reply

I remember this from a few years back. Loved it then and love it now! Their actions the language is the best. Thank you for this amazing short
reply

Absolutely delightful and sooooo creative. Loved it! So many of the Dust films are quite dark. This was a very refreshing change of pace.
reply

I've been watchinh Dust videos for about a year and this made me laugh, in a good-natured way, more than anything so far!
reply

trash. that completely gives away the creators' nationality and their belief that everyone/everything else speaks English.
reply

Goes to prove that sci fi alien stories don’t have to be aggressive to get such a positive reaction. More please
reply

Now what would have happened if the juke box came out of a biker bar
Aliens head banging to MOTORHEAD

reply

I watch this couple times a year. Grin for many minutes afterwards. What a legacy to leave the universe.
reply

There's just something about aliens discovering the glory of tap dancing, and doing it well at that

4: 20 is my favorite moment I don’t need to understand what he saying to know he’s mocking him.
reply

2: 34 They manage to fix the cassette tape just enough for it to play Hhaaayyyyaa Bark at the moon.

reply

Wow that was so wholesome but also sad. The human race lives on through the joy of our music
reply
