Flying the U. S AOL 1990 Space Ship was hilarious. When I saw the keyboard I thought it was me playing Elete 35 years ago. Decent acting but too much unexplained. Start of a good story but plot too thin. I give it a B grade for an independent. Spoilers below sort of so stop.
Harry Mudd and the Fem bots were great (Star Trek, want to know how he got Paul Atrides personal shield (Dune. Guy is no scavenger, he is a thief. Stealing from people. Why doesn't he open all the boxes as he walks inside instead of just picking up a 1969 VW battery cable that is lying on top Why does he leave with just the one little box as no matter it's worth a scavenger would have opened every box in there on this ancient artifact rich world. Liked that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is always the secret code that everyone knows for opening magnetic gates. Why is he using a glow stick that he got at his friends Bar Mitzah Just show us what was in the box so I can have a conclusion. Is it money, fingernails from all the prior dead, a gadget I don't care which, too many of these shorts leave you hanging and unfulfilled. I can always imagine a different one if I want. How does his mail know it's named Eden and artifact rich but not owned and occupied by a psyco that at some point was or maybe still is sending advertisements all over the galaxy.

The majority of the audience certainly has the education with prior SCIFI to get theme and concept in just the first minute of film. So I have to ask if this is just a project to showcase a skill-set, a plot. Kristian Bakstad ( Director/Producer) says in comments that this is proof of concept - mmm and that concept is However I thought the main lead actor did a great job selling a likable -rough- down- on -his -luck scavenger. And I really enjoyed the spaceship
Operating System overlay on viewport - the shopping cart! Yes can totally see that in future - great humor. So suggestion: dumping what's not working and dig deep to be original. What is it you want to say Find a new original way to say it and your audience won't mind the 99c store glowsticks LOL. Thank you & keep creating

A stand-alone story with a cliffhanger. There are far too many of these on DUST. If the writer is skilled enough, it isn't necessary, so this must mean that the writer wasn't skilled enough to merit a second part. It is understandable, the director has much to learn to make a good video, and good writers are hard to find and want payment. So directors, who lack understanding of writing often write their own stories. It is a good way to add the writer's pay to their bank account after all. But the results that the director sought to achieve suffer, and greatly.

This was a bit of a letdown, to be honest. It seems to be building towards something interesting, but in the end the entire story ends up being an edgy mish-mash of tropes that don't really work together. And in the end, that feeling of disappointment affects the entire short, rendering all the building up pointless and uninteresting.
The concept - or at the very least, the apparent concept - seems to be good, but you can't base a good story on just a concept.

Hey everyone!
Kristian Bakstad (Director/Producer) here. I created Eden with my wife and producing partner Naomi Bakstad.
EDEN is a proof of concept short, with a 'dungeon crawler' structure. I hope you enjoy the adventure and would like to see more of this scavenger and what they face in this universe.
Thanks for watching!
I'll try to keep up with questions and comments as best I can, as well as updating this post with information.

Totally junk. Included the location. in the Future in other part of the Universe ALL the things cannot be from this era in the planet Earth. these Directors CANNOT fly; they make sci fi but out dated crap; even the guy holding a LED torch c mon! dream dream big; in the Future if you want a lantern the lantern could be part of you lighting all around you an like that; dream fly bunch of dumbs

This is another shocking well done, yet totally dumb ending Dust movie. It seems in order to film a Dust short, you have to tell a story that has no significant or intelligible ending. I keep watching these stories and keep getting hung out to dry by their incredibly vapid endings. Even kids nursery rhymes have endings. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall!

So did the gas mask which scrubs outside air make the pshht sound that sealed helmets on something like an environment suit would make And just curious what exactly is eden rich in, natural resources, alien do-dads, naked horny women, ark of the covenant It's like dude was flying through space and rerouted because of a spam email

Countless different endings on offer here.
Or beginnings.
I was left with a lot of questions and imho, that's what a good short story is about, for me at least.
Good sets, well acted(actually, VERY well acted.
Not my favourite 'Dust', but it kept me watching until the end.
Respect to all involved in the making.

I was specifically impressed by the nuanced and understated sound throughout this short film. While the basement hallway contained mundane images of dry chemical fire extinguishers and fluorescent light fixtures, the sound made me feel like this might really be a place on a planet in a far away nebula.
reply

My only criticism, is that the opening score, copies Bladerunner motifs almost note for note, and patches too.
Understandably so, it's one of my favourite soundtracks ever.
It's VERY difficult to escape that influence doing movies like this.

reply

This kind of went nowhere. The acting was all just a little stiff as well. I think with a little more time, this could've been a lot better. I did like it, but it needed a little more care.
reply

more like to find something we're only vaguely aware it might be sinister, there's no explanation of anything we're seeing here. Great pitch clip but it really doesn't work as a short film
reply

While i love a lot of the DUST shorts, the ambiguous endings where nothing is decided or explained is getting kind of old. How about an actual ending that wraps it all up, please.
reply

that would be wonderful. to discover where even in the most remote part of the universe there is a powerful life. the habitable planet. and to go there in no time
reply

after drifting through space and presumably for some time (almost broke and low power resources) you'd react differently to seeing a female like that. I would anyway.
reply

There is a definite need for a part #1 to let the viewer know what part #2 is about. As it is; it starts somewhere; it goes nowhere, and returns to wherever.
reply

Well my imagination ran off in 37 different directions.
I had to reel them back in.
Great start!
Now, lets see how it matches my imaginations.

Why does the spacecraft make sounds when it passes (no sound in space, but when the camera goes inside it is quiet (but that is where you expact to hear the engine)
reply

I didn't understand this film, sorry. Who was the man, who was the woman Were they human or humanoid or figments of his imagination What was in the box
reply

The thing I hate about Dust is there are so many good shorts that I want to see a lot more of but they mostly seem to be a 1 off thing.
reply

The soul box reminds me of the Pulp Fiction plot with the infamous black brief case, which also left you wondering what it was.
reply

All I know is this Eden here we exist in is evil planet earth i dont know what to do and ive been lied to with concepts of divine
reply

Well for all those who are crying because you don't have enough imagination to fill in the blanks, the box contained a mirror.
reply

my ingrown fingernail dipped in warm saltwater didn't even derive me of the pain of this film. try harder. i know you can.
reply

Why do you all make them soo dark
Can't see a think. But I can hear it
So I had no idea what it was about

reply

I wish producer's would stop making movie and films in bad lighting, its just an excuse to hide bad sets
reply

The energy required for the technology here, except for the glow stick, is more then any benefit from its expenditure
reply

What was the point of this The acting, and whole set up was good, but this story didn't go anywhere.
reply

So wait! Is he the Chosen One or is he a Disgusting Human Failure I'll tell ya what was a failure. this film.
reply

So, he lands in Utah, and they take 10% of his stuff, just to find truth in a cheesy house of the 'Lord'.
reply

Darn it. The movie is too dark. Literly what im seeing is mostly black. Cant tell whats going on
reply

lol, i love how at the begining there was the simpleton descreption of the planet and his wallet!
reply

I love the Audrey Hepburn droids. Looks like they are unassigned now. May I have a couple
reply

So that's where Robert Palmer and his band ended up. I guess the box was simply irresistible.
