Watch the DUST channel for our complete sci-fi library, feature films, and more Hi,
I’m ChuKim, a comic researcher from Vietnam. I’m going to hold a workshop about comic in early November this year in Hochiminh city. I’m planning for the participants to make comic scripts and storyboards based on films. I see this short film of yours is excellent and I’m sure that my students can learn a lot from it. So, I would like to ask for your copyright. This event will be organized for academic purpose. So, please consider and I’m looking forward to have your permission. It’s going to be a great honor.
Best Regards,
ChuKim

Despite a great story-line I didn't really feel emotional, as I never knew my grand-mothers because my father's parents dying before he
married (his dad died when he was only 6yrs old, & my mother's parents (& 2 sisters) moved to another Australian capital city
before I was born. Also, along with not seeing them very often, my grandmother came down with Alzheimer's disease before I was 5yrs old. Only recently realised how those missing relationships have contributed to failings within my relationships with my parents, others, & my ex-wife.

I just think about how much the girl’s mother must have sacrificed to give her daughter that time with her grandma. I think sometimes as children we forget what our parents do for us, and it seems even more common now as technology advances and social media makes it seem as if everyone has better stuff than you do.

I wonder if something like this could potentially do more harm than good. The mother said that Abuela had been gone for 11 years. Death is a natural part of life, and moving on after the death of a loved one equally so. I think delaying that process, especially for years, could have unintended consequences.

The plot doesn't make business sense. You don't erase the account when you can't pay. You freeze it and when you can pay again, they charge a reactivation fee. This way the service gets more revenue and the customer doesn't permanently lose such precious data, just a temporary disruption.
reply

Straight to the heart, yes, but again a story about one single technology (nothing else is presented from that future) and how it can go bad (in a sense - would the girl have more friends without it. It is too swallow for me. But ok, well acted, interesting idea. ok.

THis brought back so many good memories of my Abuelita. I wasn't expecting to cry watching this, but they were happy tears. The film also reminds me to enjoy every moment of the last years I have with my mother who is dying.

I liked this one. Simple emotional story, but told a complete story as all shorts must, to be a true short. Well played. Highlights how attached we can become to technology. How hard it, sometimes, is to say goodbye.

To writer Tiffany Lin and director Nick Lopez, thanks for no twisted endings where we find that Gabi is just part of another interface membership account. Great work to both of you, as well as the actors.

I always had this concept of making time capsules for memories which people could revisit in a 3 dimensional sense ( this is akin to that, and very humanly portrayed, which at the end of it, is the point.

This one made me happy and made me hurt, made me walk back in time to when my mother was still alive. So maybe just maybe time travel is possible after all Well done dust well done

This story made me cry, because i have my grandma now alive and as my bestfriend, but i also know she will die and leave me alone and i can not find a way to forget that pain.
reply

nice short, but no big corporation works like that. You'd had the ability to lock your account and save all the data for later reactivation for a mere 5% of the standard usage price.

Boy, I would be hooked with Hologram technology. Was she self-aware I would live my early twenties, perpetually drunk. She can money-up and run the same program again.
reply

That was beautiful. Her abuela's faith and strength will be reborn in Gabriella.
I will never hear Ave Maria the same way I did before I watched this.

I couldn't do it. No matter how real it seems, it wouldn't be them. I think the feeling of being with a simulation would be a mournful burning.
reply

Some people forget that even though it's a sci fi film you still need a human connection, a story about the human struggle and plight. You sir, did not.
reply

Deep down there. We all got emotional. But, How are we treating our parents/ grandparents still alive It was not always smooth talking to them.
reply

What a great story, and told well.
Many of us have amazing grandparents. And great memories of them stay with us for our lifetimes.

reply

If you can convince someone that they'll be reunited with their loved ones you can get them to do just about anything. Sound familiar
reply

I know this is aimed at women, but as a guy, I was in tears. So powerful. So well done. Ticks all the boxes. Thank you for this.
reply

Thanks so much to everyone for watching and spreading some love! Glad to answer any questions you might have about the film.
reply

Wow, Nick. Just plain brilliant. and beautiful- your film tore me up as I see my own loved ones passing into Eternity.

Tear in my eye. My boys were still kids when Nana passed.
Rest well, Blessed Be. Everyday is truly a gift.

On a second thought, I can't imagine how big of a business it would become for companies who would offer such services

My daughter needs to see the beauty of this. Please, fellow purveyors of truth, focus on this intention.

04: 54 We have to pull the plug on Abuela is very unrealistic writing. Actually. distasteful. Ruins the movie.
reply

Excellent work! This is the type of screenwriting and stories we need to celebrate our future!
reply

She could have my time. There’s no one who’d come to visit. And I make damn good tamales.
