Loved it. The context was profound. A warm memory gardening with her mother. Happy her whole life. Then one day something happens (I'm guessing it was the death of her mother) and she realizes she has been disconnected because nothing touched her/got close to her again since her mother died. She loved her job and I bet what is inside the box has something to do with her memory with her mom and perhaps she is the first to bring a plant to the planet but someone had to see to its survival so it had to remain an untouched seedling in the box (like her life) without the love of mother or in this case for the plant, mother nature. (All this of course is just my imagination from what spoke to me about the film)

A. I.: Alpha isn't reachable
Lilian: what do you mean
Poor writing. You would think that astronauts speak proper english. He meant EXACTLY what he said, that Alpha is not reachable! What the EDUCATED astronaut should have asked him instead is something like How isn't alpha reachable. If I was the A. I. I would not have answered that idiotic question asked by an astronaut.

Nicely done. The acting was superb. The film dirt filter (or lack of cleanup if this really was Shot on Eastman ) was really more of a distraction. As a VFX pioneer I have been cleaning that dust up for decades. I don't think it makes tings feel more real. Sound track was great. Direction was great. Nice work on the reflections. More importantly good story. Thumbs up.

most launch systems don't have an ejection system - and ejecting onto a planet without a way to survive is just pointless so they would not pointlessly add that extra weight for this type of mission. - She could have came down in a capsule with parachutes or something. - also carrying the samples away from the crash site will just make them harder to find.

The introduction sounds like an astronomically ignorant statement from 50s sci fi, where the concept of the universe was frequently confused with our galaxy in terms of the story's setting, combined with a limited understanding of the actual vastness of the Universe. Sending astronauts to the 4 corners of the Universe is preposterous.

Sure, let the Asian woman drive, they said. It'll be fine, they said. It's not like she would need to parallel park somewhere in space. You don't need indicators either, so what could wrong Well, I'm glad you asked. Turns out woman has the odd ability to turn a take-off button into a self-destruct button! Who knew!

I was enthralled by the first 8 minutes. I love the challenge after the challenge. Then it went on another 5 minutes after her oxygen was slated to expire in 2 minutes Great effort, set, acting but brevity would have served the story better with a twist at the end perhaps. There was no Gotcha moment for me.

It is not my whole life that flashes before me. It is my regret. Even in a life marked be success and duty and accomplishment, I spend my last moments reconciling my abandonment of love. Two minutes of truth against four more of denial. Oxygen well spent. Beautiful film.

Very dry, almost austere, but very good. The negative comments don't get it: all is about the final monologue, which is impressively written. As another poster said below: If you've ever faced your own death you would understand what a great job this was. Word.

very enjoyable. It reminds me of our world governments. Rant. Spend trillions making ships to travel far for energy sources, whilst ignoring our Earths The enormous amount of non-stop energy from ocean surf instead of the pitiful amount from wind and solar

since i am always afraid of death, i have a simple exercise from childhood. i suppose i have only 2 minutes left, and i will be gone. summarize what you believe, be grateful for all, wish your best to the left, and be gone. still i practice from time to time.

Going to the far reaches of the universe in search of energy I guess the anti-solar energy people won & sent ships out into the universe to find coal and oil rather than just use the inexhaustible supply the sun rains down on us every day.

Could have used some post processing to make that hue of that sky green instead of blue.
Ruins the effect of an 'alien planet' if the atmosphere is blue whish is the color of light when it diffuses through oxygen.

Not very realistic! Dying from suffocation isn't pleasant at all. The brain and body deprived of oxygen will convulse and fight to find that which is not to be found! Impossible to sit still as Lillian does at the end.

It's amazing to me that the alien planets in most sci-fi movies, both feature length and shorts, look like southern Utah.
That is some dramatic landscape though. Barren, primeval and stark.

Comments on this one are odd. Usually I see people gushing with praise, even for snoozers with way too much exposition. This time, they're harshing on a short that was actually okay.

If Lilian needs a cuddle and a medic give me the ship and I'll go and get her. I'll need an orbital base to launch the lander to the surface, and a reserve lander on the OB.

Yeah sorry, I've got a lot of these to get through, from hovering the progress bar it's just her stumbling around alone in the suit. Next.

I thought it was great. I like deep, existential films like this. Nice story, acting, cinematography/effects, and lovely actress; -)

Realized the oxygen leak must have been caused by the lace-up basketball shoes she's wearing. I didn't notice a seal there.

The performance was good enough, but the story was just bland. I mean she escapes a crash and runs out of air. That's it.
