10 Most Disappointing Games of 2023 [FIRST HALF] Ming: Good year for games? . That's generous! Haven't found a compelling reason to buy a next gen system. I cancelled my PS5 preorder after struggling to enjoy Last of Us 2 (Literally the only preorder I ever abandoned. Horizon Zero Dawn II was a let down (Still a B but not an A+. The protagonist is the worst and I loved her in the first game. Hogwart's was good, but is it great? In a great year, it's also a solid B. Games have been really poor lately with too much politics, repetition and nothing to say wow about. My list 2023 games are all filler. Stranded Alien Dawn, Hogwarts, and a few others were ok, but they are no RDR2, GTA5, Bioshock, Uncharted, Days Gone, Maneater or whatever. The past two years are poor unless you like these Elden Ring games or this upcoming Lies of P type game. Give me some stealth, strategy or story. I'm tired of fighting in a circle. Where's the great games! Please! I want great games. Starting to feel I should migrate to board games at this point.

I've never heard of any of these games except for Last Of Us. Also I don't know why you're surprised, video games have sucked for over a decade, they just look really nice. In the 2010's I only liked Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Far Cry 5, Far Cry Primal, Far Cry New Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, Last Of Us, and Dying Light 2. That's only 8 games in 11 years. Most of these games people complained about, yet they were the best games. People complained so much about Far Cry 5 (The Best Far Cry) that when Far Cry 6 came out, it didn't even feel like a Far Cry game! Why does everyone want to completely change franchises, when they could just make a new game. For example, Assassin's Creed hasn't been the same since Revelations! After that, they changed the mechanics of the game which made 3 suck and each year, they change something else to make it suck even more. It doesn't help that hardcore gamers want everything to be an online multiplayer game. I've never played games to connect with people, I play games to get away from them. Games used to be fun but then all of you turned into critics, assuming you are important and only you know what a good game consists of. Just let them make what they want to make and eventually you'll get better games.

Redfall is by far the worst game I have ever played and that s an understatement. I have a beast of a rig and managed to get top at 144 fps on all low, constant stuttering, and the story was not a story at all. Abilities are kinda cool but mostly useless and don t need to be used at all. Vampires have like 2 maybe 3 different attacks. I can t believe some people are defending them, this game has nothing to it, it s a clear cash grab, story is the worst of any game played by far, and the gameplay loop is terrible. I have played Roblox games with more depth than this AA bs. Actually the WORST game I ve ever played and I m so glad I played it off game pass cause I would have jumped off my balcony if I payed 70 for that compost bin of a game

It's hard to call a lot of these disappointing when they never managed to grab my attention pre release. I wrote everything off knowing they wouldn't be enjoyable. Greyhill Incident had my attention for awhile. But they started getting a little too obvious with how bad it was going to be. Many of the trailers featured typos, which was a red flag. And then they announced a collectors edition that came bundled with a roll of overpriced tin foil. That told me everything I needed to know.

Was the last of us pc really reviewed on a steamdeck and then complained about? Those issues looked more hardware than software. my experience of TLOU on pc was phenomenal. It was beautiful and ran great on my 3080 at 4k from start to finish. When ran natively and not using DLSS, the particle effects and textures were insane compared to PS5 (but needed dlss on my card and resolution. Overall, the game did not deserve to be on this list.

Clearly the minority here, but I liked Forspoken. There were things to dislike, like how slow the game took to really get going, but the story was actually pretty good imo although a bit rushed feeling at some parts. Game play was interesting, and the character was kinda relatable in some ways.
Overal imo it felt like a good attempt at a brand new ip and a sequel would hopefully fix some of the bad I thought was there.

It's so funny seeing ppl having the windows mindset when using the steamdeck. Like, did the the last of us pt 1 even have a supported steamdeck release?
Thank Valve for all they have done to linux gaming, but blaming them (witch is what you do when using LINUX with a transitionlayer called PROTON to play a JUST RELEASED WINDOWS GAME) when it doesn't work to use LINUX for the game is just, pretty darn uneducated.

Great list!
I'd like to bring up a recurring issue I have when I watch Falcon lists. Please, stop with the siren sound effect or at least show a visual indication that this is a recorded siren in the video.
I live in a place where a siren can go off at any time for alerting a rocket attack and it immediately brings me to a bad place when I hear one.
Otherwise, love your videos, keep doing what you do.

I think it's been said, but Gollum should definitely not be #1.
I mean, really, who was disappointed by it? I don't even know a single person who even knew that game was coming out, let alone be excited for it.
Redfall is a better description of disappointing, as people actually expected a lot from Arkane, and XBOX was actually touting it as its next big thing.

I think Forspoken is overhated tbh. No, I don't think it is some goty contender (have to say this because if you have anything nice to say about an unpopular game that somehow translates to best game eva, because nuance is a myth) and I think it's overpriced, but it does feel like it got way more crap than it really deserved. It's an okay game.

Man, learning about Roberta William's return to games this way is a little heartbreaking, not gonna lie. Though as far as I can tell, she was always more of a writer than a game developer. It's a bit of a shame that she didn't try to adapt to the new world of gaming a little more. I guess she's still burnt from King's Quest 8.

Man Forspoken wasn't that bad, yeah the banter between Frey and Cuff was a little annoying, though you could turn the frequency of it down but if you put the voice over language in Japanese it makes it 100% more bearable. Once you open up more magic then it gets really fun combat wise.

Do the devs not know their games suck when they're making them? I may just be way too cynical but I feel like the overwhelming majority of games released today suck. Maybe 3-5% don't? Reminds me of why you would make a Dodge Neon when you could make every car as Bad A as a Challenger.

Last of Us was a terrible release as far as optimisation and it was a huge injustice as the game itself is amazing and one of my all time favourite games. I have a strong enough PC that I could power through it and have an enjoyable experience anyway but it was clearly unoptimised
reply

When a major developer starts dropping flubs, I genuinely wonder what their priorities to gamers are and if those priorities have changed. I think it's all too easy to get sucked into profit over product, and it's equally detrimental. I'm glad none of these are on my current PC list.
reply

Biggest problem I got with recent games is, optimization is god awful. On same pcs, you will get 0 problem and on some, it will be lackluster, there is not even consistency. Even on high end pcs, freezing and fps drops ruins the whole thing, let alone having shitty gameplay.

I played TLOU on pc at 1440p high settings all through with not 1 crash OR performance issue, same with Jedi Survivor. RTX3060Ti - 5800X3D - 16GB 3600 CL16 - Gen 4 NVME 5000M/Bs R/W. with both games it is highly recommended to let the shaders cache fully before starting the game
reply

I don't think the Gollum game was disappointing. I don't think it can be if nobody thought it was going to be good anyways. If anything, it was a hilarious break from all these AAA games trying to be more. Nobody thought it was going to be good and it wasn't.
reply

I am surprised at how surprised Falcon sounds at number 2. 95% of games on Steam are on quality levels like that since they removed the quality veto a few years ago. That's why you never play games with so few reviews unless you have money to burn and time to waste.
reply

Why are games turning into linear story progression? It's like they make up the ending of a game then do everything they can to get to the end. Or like a premise to an idea that the game either revolves around or keeps these cool ideas locked in cinematics.
