Trailers must have been bad. Never got that feeling one should have w it at all.
Visuals are good not great
Story. reached 4-5hours in game and i still waiting for something good to actually happen. so perhaps not a great storyso far atleast!
Hardware i use and fps in 1080p
rtx3060 12gb
i5 12400f
16gb 3200mhz
high n middle preset mixeddlss3 quality and i get 45-65fps. mostly the fps stays around 55-60fps. but the drops down to 40ish fps does feel during combat.
tried a few different settings and im glad that even on lowmiddle w dlss quality the game dont lok horrible. But i myself want to max out settings with textures atleast and sadly w my pc it doesent keep above 60fps.
Raytracing on vs off!
what fps difference did i see w my hardware! = fps dropped 5-10fps when i used r. tracing. also i didnt really notice r. t when it was on so felt less than a must have for myself n my pc.
so the game releases 18th feb 2025 on steam. but been playing it since last night. sadly it looks good and feels good but the story leaves a little less then i would have liked w a story in a game like this. 4-5h into game n still no bigger things in story(well 1 or 2 small to medium things happened so i hope moore will be later on so the story is better)
Thanks 4 this video. great as always!

For a Blizzard game to not have a good character or story tells me everything I need to know. This studio has gone downhill for awhile now. LONG gone are the days of Starcraft and Diablo II. Like I JUST got back into WoW, but I am not holding high hopes and waiting for baited breath like I used to on Blizzard releases. It used to be they handed out an absolute banger every 5 years or so; but now it just seems like shovelware, to be honest. I was one of the people that pre-ordered Overwatch 2; and I was PISSED when they were like it's free to play now with microtransactions. Like if that was ANY (and I mean ANY) other studio, I would have never bought anything from that company again. That felt like they straight up robbed me.

The ONLY reason this game is getting any sort of attention is because of the Obsidian association.
This exact game has failed 3 or 4 times in the last 2 or 3 years already.
Yet they keep trying to give us the same exact game with milquetoast tension, YA novel writing, self inserted character designs and modern-day social jargon, characters that are always happy or just slightly annoyed, hunky dory kumbaya nonsense, and dialogue that that goes on forever and never gets to a point.
Imagine spending years on something, millions on something and being satisfied that the final product is just. okay.
Something tells me this is another case of the majority of the dev team never made a game before like Veilguard.

The lore is actually quite well thought out and rather rich, especially for a game this size, which is not very big. The combat and take on combining class mechanics is pretty fun and interesting, however, the overall experience is very mid. It's not engrossing, because it's not visceral enough. Things with which to engage are too few and far in between. Destructible environmental items, and visceral physics are lacking. And by visceral I do not mean blood or dismemberment. I mean basic first person audio and visual mechanics that one would expect in 2025 (alpha fading tall grass in 2025 is unacceptable for a AAA title, for example. It feels like a $40 to $50 title, not a AAA title.

Watching this Before You Buy I don’t think Avowed would be for me as nice as the game looks, I feel like a good story with good characters is make or break. But the one thing that I noticed in the video is that for as nice as the game world looks it also looks completely empty. I recently replayed RDR2 and man that game easily has the best living and breathing world in a game to date in my opinion, but the cities and wilds in Avowed just look barren of any life, and in an RPG that’s supposed to really suck you in (and is already potentially suffering from a weak story and weak characters) I feel like it would just be a lonely and lacklustre experience.

It feels like a typical Bethesda game. For some reason, these companies just can’t move past 2010. The game feels extremely soulless and empty. For 2025, the mechanics are terrible in my opinion, and the graphics look like something from the PS4 era. The only thing left is the role-playing aspect. I just hope the story and dialogues aren’t bad, Especially after Dying Light 2, FPS melee combat games don’t feel enjoyable at all anymore. Dying Light 2 set the bar so high that I can’t tell if developers are just being lazy or if budget constraints are the issue.
Thanks for the review!

UI looks awful, combat looks clunky, graphics look 2 generations old, dialogue looks boring, and hearing that the story and characters are meh is very telling considering the Game Director of Avowed has only ever done writing for other Obsidian games. If the game director has no game directing experience but has writing experience and the writing is bad. games gonna be bad. Its not rocket science here.

The art style and combat is making me think Obsidian should make a Warhammer the Old World open world RPG. But if they did it, it would have a high bar to jump. However if they succeeded, the end result would probably be better than Space Marine 2. Obviously this is very wishful thinking but if GW loosened their grip a bit to let that happen, i would definitely buy and play it.

In reference 14: 25 how come you think this has been such a theme in video games/media entertainment. I’ve noticed that characters in much of entertainment are boring, and uninviting. What would you say to someone developing a world with characters to avoid this. The characters and dialogue might be awesome and unique to the creator, but obviously there is a bias.

I bought this game early with a decades worth of Xbox points ngl- I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Never played pillars of eternity but it reminiscent of older action rpgs with extremely fun & challenging combat (on a high difficulty. The exposition is a bit much & the writing could be better but everything tied together pretty nice overall for me so far

This game is really fun, the combat is good lol only a few hours in so i cant say if the story is bad but so far it has my interest enough and the sidequests have been fun enough. Its release couldve been timed better cause i dont get alot of time to play anymore and this game is getting put down when pirate yakuza in hawaii drops lol

Hey man, I was replaying Witcher 3 right before I got the Review copy. And strangely enough, i found the experience to be somewhat similar, be it world design or items etc everything resembled witcher 3. Did anyone else feel that too I'm even thinking about naming my review- Here's the Witcher in First Person.

Honestly this seems like a 30 or 40 dollar game at best. Definitely a game pass game.
That said thier really aren't enough games I'm interested to play on game pass. And with as busy as I am it would take me something like 3 months to finish this game, maybe. Just not worth it for me even on game pass.

This game looks a lot more vibrant and saturated compared to the original trailer. Thought it was going to be like a darker, gritty rpg. Not a fan of them making it look almost cartoony Idk if thats the right word but its just off from my expectation. Like its almost fortnighty or kidish looking.
reply

Um, that combat looked like shit. movement was clunky, hits don't look like they connect, characters don't react like they should. This is a whiff and a miss for such a big studio. Even the positive parts of the review look disconnected from the actual experience shown. This is a big pass

When a studio LOVES their game and focuses on that love, it shows. When they primarily focus on hitting the industry standards to just make a product for sales, that shows too.
These days, when a game is a clear cash grab with little or no heart in it, that's an automatic skip for me.

reply

Maybe it's the footage Jake was showing, but it all seems so derivative, it's like Obsidian took the RPG blueprint from Bethesdas greatest hits from 10 years ago. Where is the new stuff, where's the creativity, what risks are they taking with this one
reply

I was really excited with the first trailer but the more and more I saw, the less excited I became. It looks just okay. Unfortunately, there are way too many games in my backlog I want to play so I can’t afford spending time on okay games anymore.
reply

The graphics here look awful. I mean, like an early PS4 game ESO basically. How can this be, in 2025 I’m sad story isn’t good, Pentinent which was a recent Obsidian game (2022) had an absolutely incredible story, one of the best of the decade.
reply

Obsidian games to me hasn’t made anything mind blowing in my personal opinion, I did think this game looked cool but after your review I’m not optimistic. I stick with kingdom come deliverance for now the best game of the year so far.
