I was 17/18 when the original Demon's Souls came out (I know that the vid is talking about Dark Souls) but I can't help but think about the conversations taking place at the time when Demon's Souls came out. It was virtually the only RPG everyone talked about at the time and I remember how older generations were complaining that games were getting easier - only for Demon's Souls to come out and kick everyone's ass.
Also, I have to give you much respect for mentioning Killswitch. I remember seeing the trailers for that game and always wanted to buy it (but couldn't since I was like 14 at the time. It looked so cool and refreshing compared to what I was used to from other 3rd person shooters. That game definitely doesn't get enough love.

I ve seen people note many obvious other games on this list but I want to note another recent one that, to my knowledge, created its own genre Vampire Survivors? Started that entire auto shooter genre to my knowledge. Or ya could mention binding of Isaac. To my knowledge really influencing the trend of games where you create a build and try to get as far on one life. A game where due to the dozens of weps/buffs/powers up, you create a unique build. (Or just go with what is best if you re lucky. That obviously became key for vampire survivors and other games that aped it

There are few games that should be on the list that revolutionized the industry. Original Counter Strike when it came out those PC cafe all across the country is the place to be. I remember going there after school just watching people playing counter strike for days. Im in my 40's now. Other games which i never played but realized the impact it was World of War Craft and League of Legends. I dont play them but they revolutionized online pc gaming and mobas. Without them there is no Dota. Also another game i never play is minecraft and fortnite.

I remember when Doom came out it was the greatest thing I had ever seen. The only games I had seen up to that point was maybe a few NES games like the original Mario Bros. My friend had Doom on his parent's computer when we were kids but he never wanted to play it while I was visiting him at his house so I only got to see it in short bursts which was frustrating.

While not necessarily a genre, I think Alien Hominid really forged the path for indie and flash game developers to get to consoles. Without it we wouldn t have great titles like Super Meat Boy-or the almighty Isaac. Also on a side note, Tony Hawk Pro Skater changed how a lot of people looked at sport games, especially the skateboarding and snowboarding games.

Why do you think in games now, everything looks shiny and pretty. But there is less interaction with the world and environments.
NPCs are less and with less AI also for enemies. The AI hasn't really improve.
The mechanics still the same.
The games have less and less animations.
Is it or gaming is becoming boring

You miss Super Metroid and how it influenced/created the metroid-like / metroidvanias. Without it, there wouldn't be games like SOTN or Hollow Knight. Also Street Fighter 2 and how without it fighting games wouldn't even exist. Games like Mortal Kombat and Tekken wouldn't exist if Street Fighter 2 didn't existed.

I disagree slightly with your reasoning behind HL2. It wasn't because of the scenarios using the great physics engine, it was because it gave you the freedom to do what you liked (within reason) outside of those scenarios. You weren't limited to just the set pieces.

Half-Life 1&2 are easily the GOAT for me, they had infinite replayability due to the modding scene that lead to many stand alone games being developed from later.
And to a lesser extent, Starcraft 1&2 for similar reasons with the Custom maps.

I would have put Ocarina of Time in Dark Souls place. The 1v1 lock on system is directly inspired by 3D Zelda on the N64. OOT completely changed the gaming landscape and how devs have tackled making every 3rd person game ever since.

I think DOTA deserves a mention here, as it basically revolutionized the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) genre of games, and led to the creation of massive games like League of Legends.

I don't know how many here remember HL2, but let me tell you. When it launched on Nov 16 2004 (19 year anniversary, we were floored by it. We haven't seen anything like that before!

Thief TDP, Thief Gold, and Thief 2 have been and always will be my boys. The fact that they got it so wrong when they tried to recreate it is nothing short of an atrocity.

Devil May Cry / the juggling glitch in Onimusha that led to it. Still the only game that I've beating from start to finish in one playthrough, from one sitting.

The original Gran Turismo was a revolution in racing games. It was realistic, there were so many cars, and it inspired realistic racing sims ever since. Great list!

Mirror's Edge's influence CANNOT be overstated even though the IP itself is gone. Every FPS to this day still use its motion mechanics. Amazing game and sequel.

Deus Ex should ve been on here, it revolutionized immersive sims and the concept of multiple ways to deal with a situation, also multiple dialogue options

I thought that Batman Arkham Asylum would be on that list. I would argue that some of the Arkham games' DNA can be found in the newer Spiderman games.

I'm totally going to catch flack for this but I think call of duty was influential in terms of a first person competitive shooter.

Dude, I was just looking at Alyx Vance in this Gmod video I drive meme, and this popped up with her in the thumbnail. Talk about timing.
