10 Game of The Year Games from THE LAST 10 YEARS

10 Game of The Year Games from THE LAST 10 YEARS I just recently purchased a PS5 and completed God of War Ragnarok 100% complete. I loved the storyline, the graphics, and the game. This is the only game I own, and I am looking to purchase more games.
I quit Warcraft because of the aimlessly farming and grinding and cash to play. The game got old and felt like a constant grind and farm machine with no end. I was debating on purchasing Diablo 4 ( I've read D4 is a cash grab and aimlessly farming, no clue) Witcher 3, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Jedi Survivor, and Baldurs Gate. Any suggestions, and is Playstation Plus mandatory or worth it?

Naming any souls like game, gane if the year is pure bs, its such a small niche game that only caters to a small percentega fo gamers. A game if the year above all should be good and bring in playera by the droves. A game that purposely alienates most of the gaming community shouldnt be game of the year ever. But of course there are so much better games than Elden Ring and Souls 2 but people are afraid of angering their trigger happy fans. My comment will show just that. But more so Souls 2 has horrible graphics and very slow reacting control inputs. They made the games control sucky ans bad to call the game hard to master. At least Elden Ring looks better and controls better, so I can understand it being in the running. But Souls 2, nah that game is horrible visually and to control, plus almost no story just some lore that people have opinions about but can be sure about. Out of all of them Bloodborne at least has a better game design, control and actual story lore and not some bs people make up to excuse all the og souls having very little story. OG Super Mario Bros on the NES had better controls and story than Souls 2. Heck if you take into consideration the year it came out, has bettr graphics also

Disagree with Doom for 2016. It was a great game, yeah, and like welcoming an old friend back, but Dishonored 2 was a far superior game.
As for Dark Souls 2, I have never understood the love. The PC version was absolute garbage. Even ignoring how poor the controls were on PC, the graphics looked a generation out of date and some of the level design was atrocious (invisible walls/barriers just shouldn't be a thing in 2014. I can't see how the console versions could have been any better in those respects.
Alien: Isolation was a much, much better game and still holds up pretty well almost a decade later. The Talos Principle was from the same year and was absolutely brilliant, but too niche to hit any GOTY lists, to be fair.

Cool to see Ghost of Tsushima. That game feels like the perfect take on modern open worlds. They made the collectable hunting really engaging. The world was a beautiful showcase of art style outdoing graphical fidelity. The story was also just fantastic. Jin and his uncle were exactly what you want out of a story. Intense, ideological, emotional. The ending choice is intriguing in that it makes the player genuinely think.
Also glad to see RDR2. One of the all time greats. The way Rockstar made it a love letter to early America is amazing. The story is very classic American literature. The world has so much depth and weirdness that it low key ruins open world games for me.

For me from the years I remember I'd have to say Hogwarts takes it fo rthis year. The PC release of Horizon Zero Dawn takes it for me in 2020 for 2022 I'd say GOTY for me was Midnight Suns. 2021 is a difficult one as there wasn't any that stood out tha tmuch but I' dprobabl yg owi thHalo Infinite. I would sa ytha twith 2014 I' dpick Dragon Age Inquisition as i tquickl ybecame one o fm yfavourite games aroun dtha ttime and stil is one of my faves. Fo rme m y2017 is a contraversia lone and I know people are likely going to not like this but Mass Effect Andromeda was my favourite that year

I am glad to see Darks souls 2 getting some love, it wasn't perfect, I hade my own gripes with it, but at the end of the day I think it still deserves to stand proudly next to all the other souls games, not to be looked down on. Also I understand why Sekiro is not in this list, it would make this video essentially From Software top 10, but such refined combat is still unmatched in my opinion and set a goal for anyone who wants to make a great and challenging action game.

control was a nice game, i even platinumed it and now i am catching up with alan wake. but it had some negative aspects. the story felt kinda all over the place and at the end i wasnt really sure what the point was.
and something that doesnt matter for most people, but the german dub was completely asynchronous. which is weird, because in alan wake its fine.
2019 still in my opinion belongs to sekiro.

Ive tried a few Soulsborne games. I just don't find them fun. I play games to have fun and relax. Dying over and over to the same boss until you beat it not fun to me. And i dont understand the well the sense of accomplishment once you do beat it. I just get a minor sense of relief that ill stop dying to that boss now which one is gonma curb stomp me next.

Elden ring is overrated and overhyped. I m an adult who doesn t have time to spend dying 1000 times till I get gud and remember attack patterns while also managing a social life a family life and a 40 hour work week if I kicked you in the nuts 40 times and then on the 41st time you dodged it I bet you would feel accomplished Elden Ring

Surprised you guys picked dark souls 2 for 2014, not because i disagree but just because it seems to get bashed so often now, a lot of people will just call it a flat out bad game which is ridiculous. Objectively probably the worst Soulsborne game but I still really like it, probably would be my pick for that year as well for goty

2020 should have been Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I've never seen a game bring people together like that before. It came out at the right time, bang on the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns, and it was one of the only things that got me through that really scary, stressful time. It was a way to escape to somewhere happier.

gow was amazing but the industry was obviously bias towards it. Red Dead Redemption 2 was a masterpiece. It's a game that makes you think about life, your purpose on this earth. It's a based game while also being highly emotional.

I couldnt get to play red dead redeption 2, it felt too slow most times while travelling, shooting was good but then looting was a chore. I only played about 2 hours, does this get any better or is just the pace of tue game?
reply

GOTY is an interesting idea but too many people get way too upset if the game they love didn't make the cut. Why does it matter? Do you need further justification for your purchase beyond enjoyment of playing the game?
reply

Lots of love for Control in the comments. Love that. I thought it was great. It felt new but was easy to get started. Lots of choice on play type as well.
The Witcher 3 has to be the best game of the list.

reply

i only liked metroid dread, breath of the wild, and the last of us. could not STAND any of the other games. not just didnt like them, really thought they were annoying or incredibly boring. terrible list
reply

Elden Ring is overrated. boss battles where you have to defeat them in specific ways by figuring out their combos and attacks sets. To me that is not fun or interesting. I enjoy more unorthodox means.
