I'm planning on upgrading to the OLED Steam Deck. I've had my LCD unit since August of last year and I absolutely love this device. The OLED panel is a nice buff, but it's all of the little improvements that add up. The higher refresh, the vastly improved battery life being the biggest selling point, and the quieter fan on top of everything else. If you're satisfied with the LCD best to stick with it, but if the extra improvements appeal upgrade.
Nintendo and Sony Should take notes. With all of the little improvements that will add to a better experience. The Switch OLED is nice, but other than 64 gb internal, better battery life than the original model, and an Ethernet port on the dock.
The PS5 slim is even less of an improvement. Smaller is nice since the original console is a giant. Slightly bigger storage and the removable disc drive (which can be a pro or con, considering the future of the hardware)

I hope they don't make all of their Steamdecks OLED. LCD (or LED) have their place. For example, you never have to worry about burn on none OLED devices.
And before the naysayers come out of the woodwork, I know OLEDs have gotten vastly better at midigating. Burn in, but that does nothing to ease people stress.
I bought a LG C1 and after 8 months, I had a 12+ hour image retention. Since then I can't bring myself to play any games on the TV. Yes it looks better than any other TV in my house but the fear that the image with burning permanently and my warranty won't cover it like it's supposed to kiss me from using it.
In sum, LCDs have their place.

I cant believe im going to say this, but this might be the least informative review of the deck oled i have ever seen. You failed to mention the cpu has gone down to 6nm, and that the ram has faster speeds now, going so far as to say they are exactly the same as last time. This the has impacted your take on the battery, with you saying 25% better when others have tested it and have gotten upwards of 50% better. This because the battery life is better as it has the oled screen, bigger battery and a more efficient cpu. All of these combined give it a better battery life. Im disappointed honestly: /

Jake didn't really explain OLED properly, so for anyone wondering, every single pixel, meaning every single dot on the screen can individually light up or turn off completely. That means that any parts of the screen that should be black are literally switch off and completely black, as opposed to LCD, where you have a row of LED lights that light up the whole screen and give you that gray washed out look

For me its 100% worth it. I was in the first waves of the steam deck release and ive been playing it significantly more than my xbox, switch or PC
Its an incredible machine so ill take any upgrades for it.
Another reason is when my switch broke a while ago i decided to get the oled and i was blown away at how pretty the screen looks on a switch to boot.
Oled va lcd makes a world of difference.

I love the OG Steamdeck. I'm playing on it right now. Brightness and battery life are something to be concerned with but for me, it has been a bit of a blessing.
If I play until it needs to charge, I can focus on other things while it does so.
The colors pop on my older one. I had no idea that the screen was an issue of contention.

0: 33 nailed it. that intro (and outro) are really annoying.
it's like those openings in the original dragon ball z where they tell what happened in the previous episode, when each episode progressed by literally 1 frame of movement.
someone wrote I guess that intro is for those people just turning in for the show

OLED is basically an upgrade in erry possible way, even if it's slight or unnoticeable
But in the end, it's still an OLED, so it'll have the 2 OLED issues that typically outweigh all the pros: Burn in and Dead pixels
It's certainly better than the OG Deck. Enjoy the few years of use you'll get out of it

Buy it bruv. This is possibly the best handheld gaming PC on the market. Sure, might not be as powerful as an ROG Ally, but the display, OS experience and battery life are way better than on the Asus machine. And it's a Nintendo Switch + it emulates almost everything. I mean, there is no ''before'' this time.

I go back and forth every day. Think i may be settling for the Legion Go at this point. PS3 and Switch emulation for some games is a struggle for the deck. Not to mention outputting to a TV would be a misereable experience at 720p. I think my use case my warrants the more powerful device.

Just 2 minutes before Valve announced the OLED version, I had saved enough money to buy the 512GB Steam Deck. I was purty miffed because I want to buy the high end one and it doesn't ship to my country. So I have to rely on 3rd party to get one, and even then it'll take MONTHS to arrive.

I ended up buying a 512gb LCD version for 379 EUR (refurbished directly from Steam, I felt that it was a bargain honestly (it was 679 EUR new here in Portugal before the OLED announcement, I never had a steam deck and I'm new ish to PC gaming so I'm quite happy with the purchase

Totally off-topic, but if you're one of those people who plays your Steam Deck in bed just be careful and make sure to turn it off before you actually go to sleep. There's a ton of posts out there of people falling asleep with it on and waking up to some nasty burns.

Knowing the OLED is limited edition I just hope I can get one without resorting to scalper prices. I know its limit 1 per account and the account needs to have been made prior to november 2023, but bots/scalpers always have a way.

I like how you said you shouldn't go out and buy this right now while standing by a garbage can to signify that was a garbage take and that you should definitely go out and buy it right now fire emoji fire emoji fax machine emoji

So tempting to upgrade from the OG deck to this, too bad the performance and RAM are the same. Had they improved to 32 or 64 GB of DDR ram, no bezels and better GPU/CPU then I would have bought it guranteed without question.

I think the best decision I made with the Steam Deck was to hold off on buying it because this definitely seems like something I might pick up later on. Love that they just gave us more Steam Deck

The APU is actually a different APU. From 7nm down to 6nm, but it's the same APU - just manufactured differently. This helps with power usage. Plus newer LPDDR which on avg gains you a few FPS.
