This Open World RPG Could Be The BIGGEST Game of The Year I recently tried playing dragons dogma and also decided to play it on hard mode since i like having a game be challenging, i got into it a little bit but when the first major fight happened outside of this village then i found out that it may not be for me, the fighting felt clunky, i couldn't dodge any attacks so i just ate shit (found out by searching that you can purchase the skill to dodge later in the game) and generally did not understand how im supposed to play the game in a way that is not just go to a fight, its a 5v1 even if you have pawns a lot of the enemies seem to target you and generally it just didnt click with me.

Dragons dogma was extemely repetarive, and anywhere you traversed has swarms of enemies constantly attacking you (even marked paths, cant just get from point A to point B without aggroing something all the time. You saw a group of 4 wolves, so you attack and not only do they runnaway from you prolonging the fight, the 4 wolves now became over 20 wolves you need to chase down and fight. This was fine at first, but its always that way, with every enemy type. Constantly needing to get new pawns as you leveled up just became a chore. The griffins and trolls were fun at first, but they just became damage sponges with no purpose to fight after the first few times. The entire thing just felt like work after the initial few hours of amazing gameplay. Just more of tne same throughout the game.

How are you calling the first game janky The only problem I ever had with DD was that I wish the world was bigger and there was more content. And I felt that way after 150 hours on a single save. The original suffered from poor marketing and virtually zero attention, everyone I convince to check it out is blown away by how amazing the game is and how it's been around since PS3 but plays better than a lot of modern titles, definitely better than its contemporaries. I've been losing more and more faith in Gameranx's reviews and perspectives.

Bruh, I’m sorry but DD is a better game than Skyrim imo. I will say that Skyrim has a better story and deeper lore than DD, but from a pure gameplay enjoyment standpoint DD just sweeps the floor Skyrim, it’s not that close.
Like Skyrim has A-tier lore/story and C-tier gameplay where DD has S-tier gameplay and D-tier lore/story, I personally value gameplay more. DD just feels like a true classic RPG at its core and the Pawn system element of them learning how to more effectively fight monsters with you in tandem is fantastic.

I really hope it maintains the charm of the original.
I loved getting gifts when my pawn was rented, and helping other pawns complete their knowledge pips, etc. And the rift crystals!
At least with the pawn trading community on GameFAQs there was a very wholesome cooperative element that I don't think you get from an MMO or other co-op games.
I'm also excited that it looks like we get Fashion Dogma, too. End game looks were amazing in the original.

Never was a fan of the old Dragons Dogma. It could be a good action game but it was set in a world I had no interest in learning more about or traverse for that matter. And the pawns were boring and felt tacked on.
Here's another unpopular opinion of mine: DMC 5 is overrated as hell. Dante and Nero have the exact same moves as in 4. Nero doesn't have his hand (devil breakers can suck it. Emo kid's system is: press button - automate sss ranking.

I've replayed ddda so many times that I even got the plat trophy. Atm I'm playing Hogwarts legacy, and as I watch this, something occurred to me about why ddda feels so much more fun to play than HL or really any recent RPG. There's no collectables in ddda. There's no, oh there's 800 bandit camps and arbitrary miscs covering 90% of the map. And if DD2 keeps this theme of no collectables, honestly that by itself is gonna put it at goty for me.

Just started Dragons Dogma's campaign as a Souls player. Relative to Soulsbornes, DD has a class-based (somewhat DMC-esque) combat system with super moves; mediated by a stamina bar. But with more dynamic environmental mechanics built into it than Soulsbornes. Personally, haven't gotten far enuff to make a definitive judgment about it's quality, tho i can say it does share massive boss fights like Soulsbornes.

The pawns system was the absolute best thing about dragons dogma. I think people just never fully realized what it was and how to use it to its fullest potential. If you didn't play it when it was first released, when there were a lot of other active players, then you never got to experience it to the fullest either. My one piece of advice for DD2: learn the pawn system.

I can't wait to play it. Loved the first game. Sadly everyone I know that is familiar don't care. A coworker who never played the original and is gatekeeping saying the first was a crappy oblivion clone, and the sequel will be a elden ring clone. Infuriating to hear, and like I said, he never played the original.

Naah this game wont be game of the year no matter how good of a game it is, because it lacks the most important thint: multiplayer.
No multiplayer, no buy from me.
Elden ring wasnt a big game but its endless because the most fun is in the multiplayer. And got game of the year.

Dragon Dogma's pawn system is one of the most unique and interesting mechanics ever. Pawns (your AI companions) bring so much life to the game. The way they react to enemies, other NPCs, quests, environments etc. brings the immersion to next level. Can't wait to see what DD2 will do with it.

The only thing that disappoints me is that the combat seems to resemble the combat from Black Desert, which I really dislike. I hope I'm wrong because the other parts look really good, including the clothing, which in most games tends to be colorful in order to attract younger players.

i played the first dragon's dogma on switch lite and i really loved the game. I have enjoyed other games from capcom like DMC, Monster Hunter, Resident evil and I am pretty sure DD2 will definitely be great, and Thanks gameranx team for the wonderful content

no one's talking about the system requirements so let me do it myself
5500xt/1070 for 1080p 30fps with fps drops doesnt sound like its gonna be an optimised game
plus there's no requirements for 60fps
so yeah gl if its another unoptimised garbage

If this game does well, it would be reeally cool if the developers would go on to make a game of thrones game with the mechanics of Dragon's dogma. Imagine how cool it would be to go around and explore Winterfell and other kingdoms. One can hope.

The first game kind of sucks. It's not a deep character based rpg like people think. It's a lame ass monster hunter clone with a cheap rpg dressing.
Really hoping 2 is better. To those comparing this to skyrim. embarrassing

not buying it until it goes on discount, capcom, ubisoft, blizzard, sega, bethesda needs to stop being greedy companies and the whales need to stop buying their games, i know it won't happen but i say that they go f themselves

My boyfriend is so excited for this game. He had me try the first game a bit and we made each other as our pawn. I didn't get too I to it but also didn't give it much time as I probably should have to really get into it.
reply

But. can you shut the pawns up Seriously Because in DD1 even though you can sit them down in a knowledge chair they sometimes bug out and chatter away even though they should not. I want a silence button for them.
