I am pleasantly surprised that Ys VIII was so high up the list. I've been a fan of the Ys series for over a decade, but have played the games since the 90s. Yes, the series is that old, but really didn't get into the series until after they started redoing the games, starting with the remake of Ys III, as Ys: Oath of Felghana. YS VIII is definitely a strong entry in the franchise and, given the non-linear continuity of the games, takes place between Ys IV and Ys VI.
The storytelling was extremely good, the battle system was a refinement of the remake of Ys IV known as Memories of Celceta, and the game shows the strength of the soundtrack. A fair number of remixes of many classic tracks, which are done frequently in the series but retuned slightly to fit the game, and some absolute bangers in the more original ones.
I also agree with the Mass Effect Trilogy, I loved that series. And I really need to play the Legendary Edition to go through that again. It is space opera at its finest, with a large cast, a solid story that makes a lot of sense in the context of the lore, the science is internally consistent and is largely based off of actual existing science and theories (with the required handwave for FTL travel and communications, granted. The story is fairly simple at the start, but grows more complex as it progresses (though remaining internally consistent throughout.

When you copy your reviews from IGN.
Snow Day! is not The Stick of Truth nor The Fractured but Whole, it should not be compared because its not a AAA RPG its an multiplayer roguelike arcade that cost less than half the price of the other 2 games.
You get 10 hours of story content (5hr story but takes at least 2 playthroughs to get all the all the missions which are random on ever play through so 10hrs minimum)
If your going to review games and criticise them then at least get it right. He'll most reviews went back on their review because Snow Day! Is actually a well recieved game and IGN got major flak for comparing it to the other Southwark games.

Jake Baldino and I have VERY different taste in games. Resident Evil and survival horror in general are crap. Metal Gear Solid and stealth games in general are crap. Jake and I have VERY different taste in games. that being said, the fact that no Diablo-likes made the list is a joke. I am a huge, lifelong Marvel fan but Midnight Sons was crap. a mobile game crossed with a dating sim is crap. how about X-Com 2 instead No Deus Ex your list is crap. Planescape: Torment, which may as well have been a novel not a game (I played it at launch, I'm that old) instead of Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Nights Seriously No Nioh 2 Ni No Kuni 2 NIER AUTOMATA Your list is crap.

I recently replayed Dragon Age Origins, and had so much fun. Played through twice, once vanilla, and once modded. Went through to DA2 and while its not as good as DAO, I did enjoy it. I never liked DAI, unlike the first two, I couldnt even remember anything about it, but figured I'd play through it anyways trying to continue through the save file, but after a few days of playing, went to log in one day and got an error that I needed the DLC to play since my save file had DLC. No rhyme or reason. It was all installed, nothing changed from the night before when I played. spent some time trying to fix it but nothing worked, so I gave up.

I played a decent bit of Midnight Suns when it was newer, but didn't progress the story too far. I thought I would only enjoy the combat aspect, and then suddenly I found myself enjoying the cheesy interactions between characters and exploring around the manor between missions. You try to get approval with different characters, I guess there's maybe even a bit of romance aspect Different characters respond differently to certain messages and gifts. Selecting outfits and stuff like that too.
It became like Marvel meets X-Com, meets The Sims.

Fallout 76 is still lacking character animations for their wolves! They are literal cardboard cutouts moving on tracks around you when they attack!
This is NOT fixed! FO76 is STILL garbage. Its not the writing or set design or character design, per se. Its that you can so easily point at things where a semi competent developer could have them fixed in a few hours, but they would rather keep that store working and a flow of new things to buy, instead of animating the movements of one of the most numerous and basic enemies in the entire game.

I have played through the Mass Effects more times than I would like to acknowledge. One of my top three computer games of all times when taken as a single title, beside 'Skyrim' and 'Dishonoured'. There is always time for another play through of Witcher3 also, not to mention the transcendent 'Control'.
Whether the critics accept it or not, 'Fallout 76' is now by far the most detailed and best-supported Fallout game that has ever been released. Obviously 'New Vegas' is the anointed darling but I enjoy 76 far more than I ever enjoyed NV.

Marvel Midnight suns is like Slay the Spire mixed with Xcom2 and that should be nuff’ said. Like think of a spire character with so many possible builds, then apply it to the freakin Hulk. It was on my backlog for a while bc of all the hate it was getting, even though I had it preordered. But when I finally sat down, it was a top video game experience not just for marvel fans but for anyone interested in strategy and multiple ways to figure out a battle. Can’t recommend it enough, it’s wild I wrote this much I must really like it

I loved Dragon Quest and played it completely. I don't know if it's a version thing or so, but after the initial credits, you can play the story from a slightly different viewpoint. It's great and nearly as long as the first part.
I think I played Mass Effect from start to finish three times. The Legendary Edition last time, and I have to say the DLCs make the games even better.
Planescape is on the list of games I have to replay, if I find the time. It's a terrific game.

I know it's a survival-craft game, but Obsidian's Grounded is another great one that is very close to being an RPG. The actual survival mechanics are easy to play around and the farther you get into Grounded the more it morphs into a role-playing game. There is a huge world to explore and reason to do so, lots of weapon and armor choices that encourage build-craft, and an excellent sense of adventure.
Obsidian are one of the best devs working.
Outer Worlds is good too.

I absolutely FO76 honestly. Its the only game that really hits all my criteria for a perfect game (not that the game is perfect. Its an open world RPG. light survival mechanics. scavenging, crafting, looting, legendary weapons, open world events and meta events. Nothing else hits all these areas for me and again, while FO76 isnt perfect in any area, being the only one that hits them all, and being Fallout, I absolutely love the game.

I tried Wasteland 3 recently when Baulders Gate 3 came out. I'm not really into turn based stuff (except Dragon Age Origins. Ive tried DOS2 as well, but they just dont click. too complicated, too many stats and options, they just arent for me. Wasteland clicked for a bit though, I was enjoying it, the humor, a little more basic than the others I mentioned, but I also didn't make it very far before dropping it haha.

I just finished the fallout show and it was absolutely great. I was super skeptical the entire first ep and half the second ep but by the end of the second ep i was sold. By the middle of the show I realized how great it is. They nailed the vaults in terms of the innocence mixed with the insidious. The Ghoul who I was most skeptical of as a character was my favorite character. What a great show

Dragon Quest 11! The game is a masterpiece and easily my favorite RPG the past 15 years. Just platinum-ed it. The additional Definitive stuff gets damn difficult at the end. Excellent! It's the game, as a kid in the 90's, I always thought JRPGs would be in the future. Unlike the sellout Final Fantasy, DQ11 remains turn-based and fun as hell, oozes charm and loving tribute to the series.

Played F76 on release, it was not a great experience. Fired it up for the first time in four years today, wow. Completely different feeling game, so much polish added and a real attempt to make it a legit Fallout game. Still some foolishness, don't get me wrong, but I could recommend this to folks as opposed to the original release.

Might I suggest the hit game Persona 5 And the series that it was inspired by Shin Magami Tensei! We are getting a brand new ip from Atlus called Metaphor Refantazio this year, and! We re getting a re release of Shin Magami Tensei V called Vengeance. And it is cool as hell. They’re adding 80 hours of content you’re getting 2 games in 1!

I tried Fallout 76 again. I think ive tried it like 3 or 4 times now. I cant get past tge shitty controls and the performance. It runs like absolute trash.
Id recommend fallout 3 alongside new vegas. Vegas is definitely the superior of the two games but 3 is fun anf was my first fallout game

I'd just like to point out to anyone unfamiliar, this fight at ( 3: 14 ) was not meant to be fought unarmed. Do not think that FromSoft's difficulty is just being damage sponges. This was a bad clip to display the difficulty. Don't let it deter you. That's all.

I played Mass Effect 1 for the first time last year. Loved it so much I immediately played it straight through again. I got a couple of hours into ME2 and gave up. They changed too many mechanics, and every location just felt smaller. Totally killed my interest in ME.

I tried to get into Pillars of Eternity after loving Dragon Age Origins, but DAO ended up being the only turn based game (or RTwP really) that hooked me. PoE had soo many detailed stats that was just overwhelming and I didnt care to care about them.
