10 game mechanics that blew us away
video description
I think people underestimate how satisfying it is seeing a fire grow and spread, changing the state of a scene into these barren wastes.
Another two are Levolution and Horde mechanics. Levolution in BF4 was revolutionary, it presented a battlefield that not only got more chaotic, but could host a map wide disaster changing its entire landscape, if players chose to activate it; so amazingly fun.
Horde physics is a bit of a rarity, dead rising has a fun one with all the massive groups of undead each presenting a threat, unlike something of Hitman hordes, where AI aren't actually crowds of AI, turns out they are just dumb actors with some real AI characters nearby

How about The Dark Zone from The Division.
Gotta be one of my most favorite things in recent years, seamlessly combining PvE and PvP and adding a whole new level of tension because you can't trust anyone.
In many respects it was the precursor to BRs (and I would argue still the superior experience, I don't care how popular fortnite is)

That DELAY on Kratos' axe returning when you forget it or throw it really far away is awesome. It takes less than a second when you throw it at an enemy, it SHOULD take longer if it's traveling a bit. Can't say I loved the wind on Tsushima though, maybe it was just me, but I often had a hard time figuring out which direction it was blowing!

I like the chaos system in Dishonored. The game punishes you for being too brutal with more guards, the plague that afflicts Dunwall becomes worse, the guards becomes more rude to each other, the characters view you differently and the bloodbug infestation instead of rat plague from dishonored 2.

Turning everything you know about spatial relationships upside-down with the portal gun in Portal was a pretty unique mechanic (and still is. I just got done playing 1&2 via the Switch port, and it feels just as good as it did 15 years ago.

And adding to Ghost of Tsushima, if I'm not mistaken in the game is mentioned that his father is the wind on his back, that adds more depth to that mechanic, since it's like your father points where you need to go.

Warner Bros. has a patent on the Nemesis System, that's the reason why you don't see anyone copying it and doing it better, because no one can legally. The patent goes all the way to 2035. A big middle finger from Warner Bros.

I think the only way they could make super hot better if it didn't already have it. They could totally just show you a whole Normal speed version of your character in third person playing through the whole game.

Has anyone played the time loop fps named Lemnis Gate?
I think the time loop mechanic and the interactions you could do with the different characters were a near idea. Sadly the game is as good as dead now

I love the term 'hobocop'. That would make an absolutely HILARIOUS parody game like goat simulator. Where you are just a hobo that has to solve crimes but its completely insane.

Devs didn't copy the nemesis system because Warner Bros patented it. The only company to make something even close was Ubisoft with AC Odyssey and their bounty hunter system.

Honestly back in 2006 what blew my mind at the time was the active reload system in gears of war, it made your ammo powerful and I didn't see anything like it for awhile

My personal #1 is the gravity gun from Half Life 2. Using objects and physics to damage enemies was so much fun. Blew my young mind when i got to Ravenholm.
