I think there is a push and pull to BGS potentially making the UE swap, in the short term it would obviously push all their timelines back as they learn the engine and train up the devs. I do think that there are some benefits in the longer term, obviously UE is a much more modern engine with a focus on workflow and customizability, and given the high turnover that BGS has they would be able to hire devs already very experienced in-engine rather than having to train up the constant inflow of new devs on proprietary tech.
On the other side of the coin. BGS' big issues currently are NOT necessarily engine related. Their writing department needs a huge makeover, and they need an overarching reconsideration of the creative direction they push in and the type of innovation they want to bring to their future projects. My biggest issues with Starfield were not engine related, in fact some of the antiquated elements of the engine are the cost of having some pretty cool features in the game, that being high detail, and a high volume of interactable and physics impacted individual objects. Starfield is most lacking in the writing/narrative department, the world-building, and in the magic of exploration that has been present in their previous hand-crafted games. The thing that sucks about the creative end of the spectrum being BGS' primary issue is that it is far more baked in to the company and their games. I respect Todd immensely and he will always be a legend in the industry, but he is aging, his ideas are aging, perhaps his leadership style is aging, and I think it is time for them to start bringing in some more fresh young minds. At some point there will NEED to be people to replace the core subset of the company nearing retirement, time flies and the end of this epoch in BGS is hastily coming at the team and the company.

TES6 on Unreal Engine what a joke
Bethesda don't care, Todd 16 times lier Howard will keep making games on same 14yo long dead bugged engine. Doesn't matter how many times they rename it, it's still same long dead engine. It doesn't fully support dx11, it have outdated data format (endless loading screens, there always will be glitching textures and objects falling through them, silly AI and so on. It can't be fixed.
And people still gonna buy this trash no matter what. Fallout 76 and Starfield didn't teach them anything.
But long dead bugged engine isn't their biggest problem - biggest problem is game design that stuck somewhere in 2005. Their casual shooters/actions that have nothing common with rpg - are boring sand boxes clones with terrible storytelling and lame world building. Previously that was fixed by fans with billion custom mods - but next TES wouldn't support custom mods, they gonna monetize it.

The problem with the whole Unreal Engine hype, is no-one understands what they-re asking. You either focus Gameplay(re-playability, Graphics, or Scale(or mod percentages. With everyone throwing the spew that Unreal is the best, yes Unreal is the best at Graphics(at the cost of gameplay and scale. So you want Elder Scrolls 6 on unreal what, you want like 5 story missions and like 2 side jobs max lol.
Bethesda is right to make their own engine(not saying it's good, as an Engine can only do what you make it focus. Bethesda has always been Scale and Gameplay, and I hope they never change. Graphics are great and all, but the best games I know, that I play religiously, all are old games with potato graphics. You know why They focused Gameplay, and it shows. Please stop asking everyone to focus graphics, please for the love of code!

Tangent to the video, but I really hate these Unreal renders. It sets such an unreal (no pun intended) standard on visuals of a game, when in a nutshell, it's nothing more than a simple, poorly optimized bundle of crap assets and plugins to make eye candy.
Assets are easy to import, most of the lighting and whatnot engine does itself and what isn't done by the engine can be simply bought from the store and these demos barely run by themselves without even including ANY of the actual game logic (from AI to everything else) that needs to happen at the same time.
And then these goobers get 3d artist jobs with that shit and we end up with barely functioning games we have nowadays with generic looking terrains that run like a power point presentation.

Elder Scrolls six: I can understand what the devs are saying. I know Bethesda is in deep need of a redemption arch given all the mess they've been in, but I still have faith in them and think it's good to keep things realistic. Would I like to see the elder scrolls in unreal Absolutely, but we need to be patient and understand that there are things that go on behind closed doors that we don't known about and need to understand.
Red Dead: I would have expected it to be on pc from the start, but this is amazing news. The game is already incredible so I can only imagine what mods will do to the game. I like where this is going.

Modders have proved for more than a decade now that you can get the creation engine running not only great but exceptionally stable and feature rich. Bethesda simply does not prioritise stability and performance in their development.
Bethesda single most critical flaw is they do not understand the games that their audience wants. Consistently prioritising scale over quality, neglecting role playing immersion for buzzword features and streamlining the experience to a mind numbingly dull linear adventure/drama game.

To be fair, the engine used for Starfield is an amazing bit of technology. The lighting and physics are systems have incredible fidelity, and It even simulates the orbit of celestial bodies around each other. Many players have encountered eclipses in the game, and if you really wanted, you actually can fly from one planet to the next in real time, but it takes many, many hours. So really, there's no need for Bethesda to abandon a highly capable game engine they are intimately familiar with and jump to Unreal Engine.

I don't really mind the janky Bethesda engine, however there are somethings that they definitely need to improve, mainly the loading screens and bugs
as for the graphics and animations, people only pay attention to the graphics when the game is bad, and the bad graphics amplitfy everything. Starfield is so boring with boring open world and boring writing, of course all the flaws will be visible when it also has bad graphics and bad AI

Whoever buys this thing there's absolutely something wrong with them. After 90 seconds of forcing your viewers to listen to (and watch) you depicting your sponsor as the best thing on this planet, I find this comment at the very least out of context. Even though I've never been a Nintendo fan (nor my kids, PC only) I think your comment should have been based solely on its probably high price especially since you haven't even tested it.

Bethesda’s engine will be their downfall. I’m sure that with more effort they could make better games with this engine, but Starfield, a game released in 2023, should not play and feel like Skyrim from 2011 but with a space mod/reskin. I think improving their current engine will take too much time and effort than switching. UE is not perfect, but for sure better than what Bethesda has right now.

Maybe i missed something.
But the ubisoft situation isnt what the media keeps putting in headlines
What i read was ubisoft being taken private- by the major shareholders (tencent and the family)
They already own the company and wouldn't be exiting the business just taking ubisoft out of public ownership -stock market

Star Wars Outlaws failed because no one cares about a Star Wars game unless you’re a Jedi/Sith Ubisoft could easily make a game like old republic that’s like Jedi survivor they are stubborn and think whatever they make it’ll sell it won’t. A small minority like games like outlaws. They deserve the failure they are getting.

Bethesda is not switching to another engine for a game that is already 10 years in development lmao. Do you all understand how game development works If they switch engines and start from scratch, even with portable assets, you're looking at another ten years. It's not gonna happen and whoever said that has bad sources.

Bethesda’s engine is far from perfect or refined, and it is 100% what’s holding them back - if the engine isn’t the problem, then Bethesda themselves must be because there is DEFINITELY a problem. Bethesda, Bungie and Ubisoft used to make my favorite games but they’ve all gone downhill

Honestly i love the way that bethesda games play. Yeah engines not an issue. Starfield could've been great if they actually did more with it like add aliens have it be an immersive world at least like elder scrolls made you feel like you were in a fantasy world Starfield just felt like menu world

The problem with Skyrim is that it was such a blue balling experience. It's only saving grace was it's combat system. I don't have much hope for elder scrolls 6, but The Wayward Realms looks good, it's made by 2 of the leading directors of daggerfall and arena.

Switching to Unreal is NOT going to save ES6. Unless Bethesda do something about actually elevating their game design, properly optimizing their game releases, have actually good writing, and NOT relying on modders to do their jobs, then ES6 is still doomed.

I’m hoping they release dev tools if they do switch. If they don’t, I’m certain the game’s life cycle would be drastically shorter without the modding scene, since unreal engine limits the types of mods that can be made by the community

Jake, grow the beard out (we love you. Bethesda, continue making large and detailed games but with more compact interactions (less walking through open nothingness. Ubisoft, focus on ONE GOOD GAME AT A TIME (focus on quality over quantity.
