You are just a bunch of bozos who don't know what you want. Seriously! Just go and play Fortnite instead, its free and suited for your millenial brain. Now what are your critics about:
Bugs, yeah it has some, not all the time and you keep comparing it with old gameplay from Fallout 76, I have over 1000 hours in that game and never EVER had I seen bugs and glitches like those you show, it still have some bugs but not the one people always mention, why Because they aren't as flashy, for example; it's quite common you get stuck in the power armor animation when it has no fusion core, or when you want to use the power armor station to repair or modify your Power Armor, that's it, those are the major bugs you will encounter in 2024 in that game! So quit the fake and non honest comparisons and admit that you have what is called Childhood bias you can forgive most bugs in Bethesda's games (Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3/4) Because you were just a kid and had barely some criteria back then, that's why flying horsie is funny, OMG Starfield has so many loading screens! I hear you say. Tell me a major Bethesda game that doesn't. Fallout 3 has a lot of them too, Skyrim has a lot of them too (Just got to Whiterun and Dragonsreach have like three or more loading screens, Oblivion, you name it, what happens is that they now take like 2 seconds to load because those are now old games and hardware has improved a lot ever since, I played Skyrim on Xbox 360 (a 2008 model to be precise) and trust me, every loading screen took about 2 - 3 min. to load the next part. Starfield's loading screens on Xbox Series S take less than one minute! Again Childhood bias!
And yes, most reviews of Starfield are wrong! because they say lies, for example The map is just a JPEG image that you click and travel to that planet, Wrong, it is a 3D rendered map, you choose your system, then your planet/moon, then you select where you want to land, it is not a still image that you just click
And this video it is also dishonest, you present footage of you doing the Jetpack bunny hopping to travel, wich yes, it was a legitimate problem back then, now the little car, that you just immediatly discarded, fixes that, and you didnt mention it, why! Because either you don't care about the game or because HATE SELLS, I mean the car isn't perfect but it can get you from point A to point B way faster than any Jetpack, it has it's own like Jetpack and thrusters, so you can travel so fast without even touching the ground, and companions have new dialogs towards it! For example Andreja can say Again, again o a Yeehaw when you do jumps with the car, it reminded me of Halo CE when the Gunner does the same when your Warthog jumps.
You didn't mentioned either that it can help you scan planets the faster, that you can harvest resources with it and has some combat usage too, you just discarded it just like that. That's not how you review stuff, photomode works when you are in the car, I use it to take funny pictures, it was a major game changer, and you just discarded it. You lost me on this one Falcon, I'm still subbed by the way

I have a pet theory about this.
When Bethesda first started making games, they didn't embrace the jank. The jank was something that happened as a result of aiming high on a tight time budget. They shot for the stars and as a result some of the interactions in the engine just went wonky and the time it would take to bugtest and fix every last instance where a wedge of cheese got launched through a bandit skull at mach 5 would have just been prohibitive.
The problems started when the jank and the empty sandbox filled by modders problems got embraced as features. Instead of being an unfortunate byproduct of game dev, the leads at Bethesda decided it was now a feature. Fixing it is expensive and people don't seem to mind, so why bother Better yet, why not profit off it in the form of paid mods
Now, if you're an ambitious, conscientious and earnest dev and you work in a company where they not only stopped caring about delivering shoddy, phoned in content but actively tell you to stop working on your project at that stage and move on to make more barely viable stuff instead, what do you do
You either get with the program and adopt that same mindset or you leave.
This can take anywhere from a few months to many years, but eventually all the people that care enough to be bothered by this will have left and anyone who's left will either have drank the CoolAid or will be people that never cared to begin with.
This means that things that the less accepting members would have pushed hard and worked on to fix will now be waved past because it's just more of the patented lovable Bethesda Jank (TM.
I think Starfield isn't an outlier or a natural 1, it's what Bethesda sincerely believes to be a successful, well-developed product.
This is what the people they retained think is acceptable. They genuinely don't see the issue because this is how all their games have been and, according to them, we liked it then so we should be happy with it now.
Anyone who wants better enough to say something about it has probably left.
Obligatory not a researcher, no inside source, just my own opinion disclaimer here.

Here is the truth about the issue with most Developers. 90% of Developers come straight out of University/Activist Hivemind, from families that generally have 2 working parents with very little interest in their kids. Developers raised with no accountability due to PC Culture. Developers trained on Game Engines and very little actual DEVELOPEMENT SKILLS. Developers with a sense of entitlement and very little regard for others.
Now take those same developers and throw them into the Corporate Machine plagued with its own Activist HR Diversity culture. A Corporate machine with absolutely no concern about entertainment and publi8c satisfaction other than entertaining a Bottom Line. Unreasonable deadlines, poor management and a complete detachment from grass roots Creative thinking and public interest.
What you get as a Result Starfield - Redfall and very unfortunately and sadly I suspect Elderscrolls 6 to follow (so much so that Bethesda themselves are already anticipating. Trash that nobody actually anticipated/wanted outside a few hard core, diehard fans who would literally chew on their own fart bubbles in the bath before they find fault with Bethesda Games.
Solution = Stop the Activism, Stop the PC Culture Get back to innovation Get back to Story Telling Employ people who actually have a deep-rooted love for gaming Allow for innovation and Bake time (TELL THE CORPORATE SHILLS TO PISS OFF AND WAIT FOR A GOOD GAME. MOST IMPORTANTLY LISTEN TO THE GAMERS AND THE PUBLIC and take Honest Criticism to heart and build back better.

I really enjoyed Starfield. The game definitely is fairly barren, I definitely wish there were more interesting encounters to be had on random planets. I wish you could land on a plant that has rings because I imagine that would be an amazing visual or if we could land on asteroids to farm resources and again, for the visuals. I also wish that a systems sun had a more accurate representation when you’re at the closest couple planets in that system. Like on Mercury, the sun would be enormous. Its replay value was pretty low even though the concept for New game was extremely unique which is unfortunate. I heard about the DLC, got really excited and started playing it again in like early august. I wanted to be ready and familiarize myself with the mechanics again. I preordered it and anxiously waited. I think I’ve played roughly 2-4 hours of shattered dreams. Most of which was on that starstation that takes you to the new system. (I HATED that entire mission) i know eventually I’ll finish it but rn it’s more of a chore to play then it is entertaining which really sucks because again, I love starfield. On a side note my companion/romantic interest is always Andreja. So far she’s only reacted to me saying that I would do the trial. Something along the lines of that’s a really big step to take. Since then she hasn’t uttered a word about the planet which is absolutely a massive missed opportunity on Bethesda’s part.

I’m one of the people who’s been enjoying Starfield overall. It’s not toxic positivity, I’m just into it, for all its faults. I’m playing through Shattered Space right now. Parts of it are really cool - the art design of Va’ruun-Kai is incredible, the concept is interesting, and the music, as always, is great. But yep, there are bugs, and some of the main missions are harder than they should be to complete - for design reasons, not for gameplay reasons. (I’m level 78, on NG)
I do think Far Harbor was a better DLC. I mean, duh. Shattered Space does have some positives - it’s not horrible. House Va’ruun is such a crazy faction, they remind me a bit of Children of Atom with better wardrobes and cooler houses. The religious fanaticism adds an interesting element, and some of the smaller quests, as in the main game, are really impactful. But even I have problems with this game.
Even as a long time defender of Starfield, I recognize legitimate criticism of the game, and fans are wanting more from the game. Or are just walking away and refusing to play. I hope Bethesda starts to listen. If they kept improving the game, it would be something to come back to, the way I return to Fallout 4 over and over.

It was boring. The characters were boring. The loading was unending, the equipment was uninspired, and the space-travel was dull. In FO4 I loved Curie, I loved Nick, I was gung-ho to ride side by side with Danse during my Brotherhood playthrough. Piper was great the first time around and I chuckled about her stories, wondering if we'd ever get into those kinds of antics in the games we play (and no, we never got clever ways to deal with stealth in FO4, sadly, not even with Piper in tow. I might have fallen out of love with Piper, Strong, and Hancock after the first playthrough, and probably never picked Danse up again, but when SimSettlements2 launched I put more than a thousand additional hours into a game I'd already spent 2000 hours in.
I played Starfield for 101 hours and I'll never play it again unless they do something to make it more entertaining. As it stands, CORA is the most entertaining member of your crew. No one else is compelling. The all-human universe is dreary. The writing is bad. The characters are cardboard parodies of people with nothing to emote, and so they don't emote.
The game is technically beautiful. Two stars.

Core gameplay loops are part of the problem. I shouldn't need a mod to make basic stuff work. Guns and Armor are on a gacha like system. Instead of paying money to gamble, I'm spending my time. You should never go through a multi tiered quest to end with a item so low in quality you just sell it or stick it on a wall. Can't improve the quality despite being able to do so in fallout 4 and have a perk specifically for upgrading guns and armor. Skins shouldn't be a mod community responsibility. How do you work for up to four different factions but have to download their accompanying skins. made by the community You give us a buggy(thank god actually) and a robot companion. but neither have any enhancements. or quite frankly personality. We can make outposts. to make more outposts. Anyone saying its for money must of played WAY too much factorio. I can see some of these things getting somewhat better if they simply add those simple features and give us space stations. but it feels like they are way too interested in creating a blank canvas and having other people fill it in.

The fact is Bethesda softworks has been dispointing all their fans for years with every single release of new game. The only reason they have been successful is fact they kept pushing the new product to new markets leaving the previous fans behind. Daggerfall only on pc morrowind a cut down version releases on the xbox new customers. Oblivion releases on xbox 360 and playstation 3 new customers with cut down game then morrowind. Then skyrim fallout on playstation and xbox 360 where in the magic system is completely ripped out and gutted by now is more a action rpg then a rpg. Now finally after this time there are no more new customers finally after all this time Bethesda softworks cannot screw with small set of fans anymore bypassing them to release their next game. There are new consoles to get new play base so instead of changing their ways it's definitely the same thing screw there old customers and we make whatever we make and you all better just be happy with it.

From my point of view, Starfield feels like a quick Money grab to support production of Elder Scrolls 6. For me the complete lack of innovation in starfield and the amount of cut and paste indicate that Starfield was a lost idea and concept that was brought back to life with the intention of leaning on the Bethesda Brand to pump out a quick game that could work as a quick cash grab. I don't believe there will ever be heavy innovation for Starfield because it's not the game they care about making. There will likely never be a moment that Starfield is fully realized, which is a tragedy because it had a lot a great potential. The bad part is, the unforeseen consequence here is ultimately going to shake out to be a lack of confidence and support for ES6. Not sure who's decision this was, but I would not be shocked if Starfield was the product of pressure from Microsoft Executives to get some of the money back used to acquire Bethesda in the first place.

Bethesda always had buggy games and Todd Howard nearly bankrupt the company he had to be restrained and force to use a creative team. Then Microsoft gave Bethesda money to port Morrowind on OG Xbox and after we got glitchy masterpieces that started to deteriorate in quality again as he regained controlled. Then some people left a writer died and he took the wheel and gave his closest friends and long term employees control ignoring talent over trends like before. So this is a cycle it’s 1998 again Bethesda is making poorly received games and Todd Howard has to be forced like before to use talent over trends with Microsoft once again giving them money. Microsoft has shown they will cut anything to save money so one of the next flagship game development cycles could force a course correction. Microsoft is not afraid to challenge Todd Howard and will either end Bethesda or force a masterpiece so there’s hope wow history repeats.

Are we already forgetting that Emil already told us how he feels about people criticizing this game back in December
I mean, I can guess what it takes to make a Hostess Twinkie, but I don't work in the factory, so what the hell do I really know Not a lot.
So sure, you can dislike parts of a game, you can hate on a game entirely. But don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is (unless it's somehow documented and verified, or how it got to be that way (good or bad.
He really thinks that his fanbase shouldn't be criticizing this game because we don't make video games for a profession. At that point he told me everything I need to know about the future of this game. They already made the money. They are not interested in pursuing a path that improves this game enough to repair the reputation of Bethesda. Just skid on by until it's time to make the next dollar, rinse and repeat.

It's weird because I think if it really was just Skyrim in space it would've worked, but Starfield removed everything that made Skyrim a legendary hit; there's nothing to discover on the way to a quest, every location outside the three cities is copy-pasted or so bland it hardly matters, no sense of exploration or discovery, no side quest threads equivalent to the thieves guild or dark brotherhood. I subbed to Xbox to play it and didn't really have an issue with bugs but the fundamentals were so disappointing I cancelled my game pass after a month. I stuck around for 2077 because despite the nightmare bug situation, there was heart and good bones underneath; starfield has the opposite problem. There's nothing worth salvaging here (aside from the starship builder and nasa-punk aesthetic) and the number of high-profile modders saying as much should be setting off deafening alarm bells at Bethesda HQ.

I think their team is too progressive in the sense that everyone's voice must be heard and compromise wherever there can be. There's so many cool things about starfield that are really cool and many things that have me like: Who TF decided this should be here There's probably people in their team that makes everyone else in the team internally eyeroll whenever they make a suggestion because they're always horrible decisions but because they have thoughts and feelings and are part of the team, they need to be treated equally and taken as serious as the actually good suggestions.
I knew an architect who worked in a team of other architects and he said there was always someone like this in every team. Someone who is actually just bad at their job in every aspect but will be the loudest to HR if they think they're not being heard.

gaming in general is on a downward spiral. developers/ publishers that were once a juggernaut in the industry are becoming or have already become a shell of itself.
Bethesda, Ubisoft, 2K, EA, Activision, Bungie, even Naughty Dog and more. All were the best of the best, but its been disappointing to say the least.
with this whole generation so far, and even last generation, you gotta prime yourself for disappointment. today, youre most likely getting an unfinished product thats riddled with micro-transactions. if you want the rest of the game or want to enjoy it to its fullest, expect to pay extra. even then, youre still playing a broken game even if you do have all the content. games are just products now, theyre not games. theyre just a barebones attempt of a game whos main purpose is to sell shit to you.

They’re insane. Shattered space was god awful and dull. Bad writing, awful facial animations, awful monotone voice acting, dull questlines that equate to fetch quests or something, copy and paste game design, and loads more! They need to go look at Witcher 3 or bg3 or any good games to learn how questlines are made well and written well. The base game was so so at best and the dlc was awful.
Phantom liberty was astoundingly well made dlc. Within its first hour you can see you’re going to love it and see how they knew they messed up and they knocked it out of the park.
All that said devs have toxic positivity and lots of gamers have toxic negativity. In this case it’s not toxic negativity the games just bad and I wanted to love it. It had so much potential and they wasted it

The issue with Emil is that he takes things too personally. I've got a feeling that has become an issue with a lot of people at Bethesda now. They take any and all criticism about their work as if they are being criticized as a person. I suppose it's a side effect of people constantly attacking you as a person because they don't like your work. It may be hard to differentiate actual criticism and attacks if all you do is scroll twitter after you release something. Then again it could just be an ego thing. We'll never know but in the end it really doesn't matter. What we have is a company who made great works sliding into mediocrity and refuse to do anything about it because doing so would be an admission of mediocrity.

I think consumers need to realize. For Bethesda, all that matters for a single player experience like this is the number of copies sold, so they can show microsoft and shareholders how the game is a success. By actually admitting they made a bad game that needs months or years to fix and actually commit to fixing it, they would have to use resources that could go towards the next cash cow. Deflecting criticism is their play here. Fans need to stop complaining and speak with their wallets. You're tired of buggy and boring releases like Fallout 76 and Starfield Stop buying Bethesda games. But we all know that's not going to happen. Gamers will flock by the millions towards elder's scroll 6 no matter how bad the game is.

Did anybody really think they would be able to create hundreds of worlds and fill them up adequately look what they did with Skyrim they had a small area and still couldn't do it right, they should have had three or four worlds maybe a dozen floating space stations and that's it then maybe they could have made it decent too much space not enough creativity and the setting and the storyline are horrible doesn't look good for elder scrolls 6 I'm telling you that they peeked at Skyrim and Skyrim was buggy and head so many plot holes you could drive a semi through it and has so much crap in it that didn't make any sense It's a miracle it turned out to be as good as it was and it's 14 years old lol

The worst thing that could have happened to Starfield, and what exposed their weaknesses more than anything else previous is being sandwiched between Baldur's Gate 3 and Phantom Liberty. When it comes to storyline, world building and especially characters and voice acting, both games absolutely blow Bethesda so far out of the water it's genuinely impressive. They've gotten away with essentially doing the same thing because they've never had such strong competition releasing more or less at the same time. But when you have BG3 and Cyberpunk's storytelling and representation a month before and after, it really shows just how dated Starfield feels despite all three coming out at the same time.

I do think fan expectations were high. I also think that Bethesda and Emil helped create that problem for themselves by constantly talking about how big and great Starfield is. They should have done a better job in managing audience expectations, and also making a quality game that was actually in line with the vision they were selling us. Bethesda has a huge capacity to ignore us though; it was a flagship title for Gamepass, it had huge up front sales, and they are focused on a longer development titles for games in a post Skyrim and FO76 world. Their success isnt dependent on us liking this game right now.
