Mm, i dunno if it has more features per se. But Its fast and it works to use my system and all its cores to the max. It zips through editing DSLR footage, and it doesn't need to render along the timeline to playback smoothly. It also lets me organize my footage how I like to, and (once I got used to it) I like the idea of no tracks on my timeline, just fluidity with where I place my clips. Theres other reasons, but it all boils down to preference really. Pemiere is a fine piece of software.

Well, its just preference really. I have nothing against premiere, I just started on FCP back when they didn't make Premiere for Mac. I switched to FCPX and fell in love with it, so there wasn't any reason for me to use Premiere. My roommate (mentioned in an earlier episode) also uses Premiere and we constantly get in fake-fights over which is better. I usually win. And I use AE vs motion, bc up until its recent version, motion just sucked IMO. AE has more plugins too and thats key.

HEY, Its CHRIS HERE. THE AWESOME DIRECTOR: : As Joel and others have mentioned, Joel used Blender for this project for a few reasons. 1) He doesn't have 3DS Max or Maya on his personal machine, only on his one at work. So instead of pirating them, he used a capable, but free alternative. 2) he did so to illustrate how anyone can have access to this creative option, not just super big-deal folks who work on Avengers. I don't believe they use Blender much if at all at his actual job.

Well I do know that it's just hard work and a bit of luck to get noticed by important people. Since I'm from a small county in Europe, there isn't realy any of these people to be noticed by xD plus I know I'm not that good since I am focusing on all parts of moviemaking (I'm learning from internet and books) since I'm doing most things by myself. But still I would love to ask him a few questinons, so if you know where I could contact him, I would apreciate the help: )

I usually render out ProRes 422 if its something I shot on a super nice camera or something that is VFX heavy. If I used a DSLR of any kind, I generally use ProRess 422(LT. Those file formats work very well with Final Cut Pro. I am not sure what an Mpk file is, but I might suggest to download the free app MPEG Streamclip and use it to transcode your footage into something FCP works with more easily. And thanks for checking out my work!

I was quite surprised to see your friend use blender. I would have assumed that he'd have been using Max/Maya given that's what he probably uses at work.
I'm a big fan of blender myself and think that it can do great things and it always warms my heart a little to see open source software getting a bit of love (as silly as that is)

Nope, not big at all. I only worked on Thor, Xmen: First Class, Captain America, Fright Night, Avengers and others. It's not a big deal seeing your name in the credits of films. That Galaga shot was my shot, from initial plates to design and development and finally the thing that was put before Joss Whedon. Define big. ;)

Just wonder if you could tell me how did you replace the sky. I you could give me just a little bit of (Key) info. All that sky that you can see between the leafs seems hard to remove. What program could you use to delete the original sky out? Thanks hard working guys.
reply

Thanks man, I like that video converter much better than that one I was using.
I never encountered a Mpk file before and Final Cut respond very slowly to it.
I think I'll stick with Mov.
Very appreciated.
Keep on behing awesome.

Can I ask you a question about how you make your videos?
What video file format do you render the clip from AE to work best on Final Cut Pro?
The Camera I use at moment saves its video as Mpk file format.
By the way! Great work!

Haha, well I know he went to VFX school and then ended up teaching himself way beyond what he learned there. I'm sure if you message him he might can give you some insight on how he got to where he is now.
reply

Omg, really? That's my age and I'm not even close to something like that. true that I couldn't go to film school but still, feels like miles away from my current level. Damn.
reply

Genuinely can't wait to see the finished product. It looks amazing so far and it feels like we (the indie mogulers) have been there every step of the way.
reply

The color Correction was only barely shown in this episode, but I was showcasing some look options in Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Mojo.
reply

hmm. probably around 50ish. i dunno. (top secret: i'm actually still working on the final tweaks at the moment) so maybe that number will grow.
reply

Well he probably doesn't own a multi thousand dollar program like Maya, but uses it at work. Then uses blender on his own time.
reply

awesome
but the reason you use final cut x is because you just like the interface better or because it has more features?

reply

Must be awesome to have tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment. :)
This must be the mogul aspect of the show.
