Collecting big box PC games is fun enough, but it's a real treat to find packages with unique shapes and designs. A selection of the most unusual computer game boxes in my collection!

Oh I'd love to own those. On the other hand, maybe not, because that'd be hell to organize.
Though there are games I'd love to own one day, no idea they didn't come in box shaped box, lol.
The only unusual -box- I own is one for Heroes of Might and Magic V but it was collector's edition so it doesn't really count, but I still thing it was such a dope package. Pretty cool having a fantasy ish game in a chest. With energy drink. That one was weird. Well. :D

X-Car! I played it, but I never saw the box (I think even back then it was fairly obscure. I got a lot of enjoyment from the drag racing sims Bethesda made, where you could create your own engine from scratch with anything from a single cylinder to a V12, and all sorts of parameters from bore and stroke to what fuel it ran on would make a difference in the power output. So much fun to tinker around with and create bizarre engines!

i once saw a pc game that blew me away but it was for a horrible pc game that i can't even remember the name, it was a win95 game and was about a man going into his dreams to fight clowns and nightmare creatures, it was a 3d game and the player would hover and shoot a gun. the box had a holgram in the middle like in a glass/plastic part. it looked so cool. shame i can't remember the name.

Two for you to track down. Burn Cycle had a perfectly normal looking box until you touched it. It was thermal reactive.
I have No Mouth and I Must Scream had a mostly normal rectangular shape but then the front was inlaid with a clear window to show off the included mousepad with the games artwork on it. It is to the best of my remembrance the only game to include a mousepad.

You could like turn your game collection into a library for video games. XD Also with the heart shaped box thing I was actually thinking of a joke like that so I was like o_O. I used to play the anniversary edition of Oregon Trail all the time on like Windows Vista then when I got Windows 7 I was mad because I couldn't play it anymore it was one of my favourites.

holy shit. I have that middle of the dark seed box hanging on my wall. it's left over from my now 30 year old brother. I never knew what it was and it always reminded me of system shocks rouge AI (can't remember the name off the top of my head, shodan maybe. I never even knew we owned a copy of dark seed even though I collect games.

I love these, though I suppose we won't be seeing so many of them since things are largely digital now. I got to see the Prince of Persia boxes in the archives of the Strong Museum of Play during a class trip; it was super cool! I'd really recommend going there if you can fanagle your way into seeing the archives.

I remember seeing that wooden 'Oregon Trail' edition at a silent auction at my local library. Sadly, the only big box PC game I own at present is 'Enter the Matrix'; my big outer boxes for 'Scorcher' and 'Morrowind' are in landfills somewhere, and my collection is a little poorer for having lost them.

I like the -Towers of Darkness: Heretic Hexen & Beyond- box. It is shaped like a tower (sort of hexagonal) and has reliefs for the little arched windows on the sides, which show screenshots. And a big opening in the middle, shaped like a window, showing D'sparil or one of his disciples looking out.

I used to have the box for Even More Incredible Machine by Sierra and it was definitely unusual - IIRC, it was -hinged- with two parts and had a little cat shaped cutout with a tail on the side. The instructions said to pull the cat's tail and that would make the box open.
