Ahh, fall bargain hunting. Checking out the usual thrift stores in my area and seeing what kinds of retro tech and random old oddities I can find. Along with another random store that I visited in Winston-Salem while on a trip over the summer. Let's go thrifting! Kordanors: One part of recycle culture we barely have in europe unfortunately. Guess space is just too precious to keep and resell that old stuff, so instead it's just thrown away (second hand non-clothing stores and can be found in la couple of suburbs/industrial zones of major cities. Everytime I see something from the 70s I already think its ancient. Something from the 40s or 50s is like it should be in a museum, no matter what item it is. Just super uncommon.

maybe the jewel cases would be good for open box pc games that just have the disc in there loose, that and a bit of tape could protect the cd/dvd games. Might not work for a binder though (could try it.
bet the paper/soft fabric would work well for a extra layer of protection in binders though.
And jewel cases if nothing else are always good for loose cd/dvd/blu ray or games on disc that have no case as a temporary solution. And as cheap storage for optical disc backups too. So its not all that bad of a deal really. Not that great of a find either but those are examples of reason able usages for such things.
After all anyone like LGR can tell you that you can often find a lot of loose pc games that way by digging through CDs/dvds and stacks of discs. Some of which can be hard to find at all much less complete. Better to have it at all than not having it as then you can still enjoy it.

I have to wonder how many of those pre-release review copies of movies don't actually get destroyed. I can only imagine that they instructed to be destroyed as a sort of NDA before the movie is released to general audiences, but there's no real way of enforcing someone to destroy their copy of a movie and surely once the movie is officially released, there wouldn't be a legal basis (or reason) to go after anyone that didn't destroy their copy.

I have a 16: 9 UK version(only difference is the presence of a SCART socket instead of S-video, but the SCART socket accepts S-video with use of a passive adapter) of that Samsung TV, it's really great with only 1 flaw.
The flaw is that it will attempt to deinterlace any composite signal, even if it's say, 288p used by the Amiga, or 240p common on game consoles. The flicker can be a bit distracting.

14: 24 shame you didn't buy that, because the optics alone were worth the admission price. I know you're usually not into modding stuff (at least on camera) but. i would've taken that, gutted it for the optics and stuck them into a newer setup, perhaps directly to TV with a newer higher def camera. That's an excellent setup for working on PCBs that would otherwise cost hundreds of dollars or more.

Clint, thank you for posting an episode of thrifts. It was much needed. I had a stroke at the end of July (at the age of 38) and spent all of August in the hospital. I ve been 99% homebound since the beginning of September so it was nice to virtually get out of the house and see the outside world for a little bit today. Thank you for this video it means more than you know

Being about 3 minutes into this and I just recognized that Samsung TV. I had two very similar looking models on my bench (one was my bedroom TV for many years; the other one was bought from a local ebay seller) and both had the same problem: the power board was dead. No LED lights, no output whatsoever. And as I'm not experienced in mains voltages I dumped them both.

Chyrosran22 would approve of the keyboard finds! And I'm not sure how much circuit work you do but as many have said that Aladdin would have made for a nice PCB inspection unit, magnifier for inserting chips or components or possibly a soldering aid. But being visually impaired I have experience with those, and I have a handheld magnifier branded Compact.

The Fujitsu keyboard might be from a till. To prevent theft it might be a proprietary connection and be impossible to connect to anything. I have worked a lot of retail and office where even lightbulbs and power sockets where different due to paranoid or just pennypincher workplaces making sure staff could use nothing outside of work.

Hardware is disappearing off the shelves. Fewer old games, fewer gadgets. The golden age of finds was 10 years ago, where I'd bring motherboards, RAM and ISA cards back on every trip. Now, a few games here and there at best. Been years since I've come across anything useful. This thrift store visit reflects the general situation.

Mister- during thrifting, you EVER come across a Raspi 4 B (8 gigs would be nice, I will pay. I will wash your car and sweep your floors. Greyhound destroyed mine a year ago. Along with a 512 gb hard drive with everything on it. And the rest of my luggage.
PLEASE. Otherwise, it's gonna be Pico projects galore.

I moved and have a new local goodwill that's one of those pay by the pound ones. Most of it is straight up garbage but I've found some vintage laptops as well as mice+keyboards there, but the best part is they have a whole assortment of PC's there all for 50 each. Got I7-4790's and I7-6700's thanks to this.

I had to laugh when you showed the magnifier, because I troll the local Craigslist in central NM for retro computing gear and two of those magnifiers (both different models) popped up for sale in the past month. How bizarre that they're popping up all the way on the other end of the country at the same time.

I had to quit going to the Goodwills in my area. I used to find PS2 and Xbox / Xbox360 games in droves then they suddenly dried up. I asked the workers if they still get those in as donations and they told me they get a lot all the time but ship them all to a central location to go on an auction site.

i would have bought some of those old imacs, you could have made a good profit with them by reselling them online.
i last saw a g5 going fopr about 300 us. , and that wasw untested for parts.
if i buy 10 of these at 50 each, get 3 working, sell them for 400 each. i already made a 700 profit.
