Oh man, I've wanted to build one of these since I was a kid, decades ago, reading my dad's 1970s edition of the Readers' Digest's illustrated guide to homesteading. I wanted to pump water to aerate a small fish pond and to fill a water tower as a source of gravitational potential energy. I grew up and even got a piece of property with a small stream as a water source. But then life gets in the way and the project keeps getting back-burnered when life or other higher priority projects get in the way. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. This vid looks great, thanks!

I've been a follower of LGR for atleast 7 years, but I had always put off watching the original 1 hour 486 build video. Though I always noted that it has _a lot_ of views.
It was around 3 weeks ago when I was feeling bit below the weather and spent few days taking it easy and mostly lying on bed or sofa. Ended up finally watching the original build video. I was not disappointed. :) Very nostalgic and relax paced episode. Actually ended up watching basically this whole compilation.

I just looked at the length of the video, 5 hours. Everyone knows IT DOES NOT take 5 hours to build a 486. IT TAKES 10! How dare you have the audacity to play this video at 2X speed!
And how dare you cheat us out of 5 extra hours of video! If I had a leather glove, I'd slap you in the face with it!
All Jokes aside, keep up the great content Clint! and Happy 14th!

Darn. I have just watched 2 weeks of almost continuous LGR (loved your first few videos (especially the first (if it was the first, the one the one in your first playlist) and thought I was done. Now you put this on me? Still, hope you have fun at your gaming expo. I got 5 hours to kill watching this. And I know which one I would rather be doing.

It's a modern art, retro tech masterpiece.
If it were any cooler, it's coolness could be used to chill the overclocked processors of the lesser machines that hate it, cause they ain't it.
It's so cool, Cool Crab hangs out in it, because game recognizes game.
All hail the woody goodness of the Woodgrain 486!

Ahh the grain. These videos are what pretty much got me into this hobby. Now I have bins upon bins full of random stuff and multiple pcs in working and non working order but thats part of the charm. I love the nostalgia boost I get every-time I mess with any of these old electronics. Thank you LGR!

Hello, Clint! Since you ve covered some of the MiSTer stuff in the past, and you built the glorious MIDI Mountain, would you be willing to do a video on the MT32-pi? It s a RPi emulator) of the Roland MT-32 that has an optional bit of hardware to incorporate it into the MiSTer!

It is funny, as I have watched the Woodgrain 486 videos more than once already. but, here I am watch this! I dig this machine a lot, I may not watch this in one go, but I am glad to give you the extra watch time. And I dig learning what you did behind the scenes too.

Wow that need for speed collection. Those box arts were wicked sick cool. Got you blood pumping as soon as you bought them, and the game didn't fail to deliver high speed adrenaline fueled racing with some of the fastest cars we had back then.

I'm at my parents house, seeing a new LGR video, I'm like. do I really want to watch it now or should I wait till I'm back home and watch it from the comfort of my own couch. Then I realise it's over 5 hours so I can have both

Me and a couple of buddies were into computers during the 'AMD DX2' & 'DX4' days and I can tell you first hand that the AMD CPUs blew away Intel's with every model. My buddy had an AMD DX4-120 that screamed. Good times.

47: 59 for sound ports, good idea to cut the 3. 5 jack (or other sizes) off a dead pair of headphones or something and use some sand paper to rough it up a bit. Works way better than with just the normal jack.

It s weird how when we grow up we buy what we wished we could have had when we were kids even though much better things have come along since then. Guess that s why I bought a 1984 Fiero not long ago.
