The Real Reason Why The Mummy Flopped At The Box Office
video description
1) Tom Cruise playing a soldier who is found to be a descendant of Van Helsing instead of a generic black market smuggler of antiques whose name no one can remember, this would lead him being in multiple movies and give him a reason to be a Bad Arse monster slayer.
2) The movie being about the actual Mummy instead of centering on Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe's characters.
3) Have something unseen in the background of the movies narrative that is waking all of the evil from history and this can lead to the other Universal Monsters rising in subsequent Dark Universe movies.
4) Save the reveal pseudo S. H. I. E. L. D ministry of monster hunter's, plus Russel Crowe's character entirely, to the next movie in the franchise. Their inclusion was just a distraction from the movies plot and didn't go anywhere in the long run.
5)Keep the entire movie in Egypt and show off more of Ancient Egyptian Lore, like they had find a muguffin to use the power of one Egyptian God to stop the power of Set in the flick.
6) GET YOUR BLOODY EGYPTIAN GODS RIGHT! Set was not a god of Death, there were several in the Egyptian Pantheon, but the one in charge of the Underworld was Osiris and he wasn't shown evil (Death wasn't seen as evil in the ancient world, just a journey to another plane of existance and is a relatively new cultural belief. True Set was an evil god, he was a god of the desert, storms, disorder, violence, and foreigners (Basically the evil of the unknown. The Ancient Egyptian version of the Devil was the ancient Egyptian deity who embodied chaos, Apophis, who appears in Ancient Egyptian art as a giant serpent demon like creature.

The 2017, Mummy definitely has/had potential to be a very great movie, but it should have never been released, during the Summer blockbuster market, to begin with! But, because Tom Cruises' name has always been attached to Hollywood Summer blockbuster movies, that has always been solely focused on action! Don't get wrong, I am a fan of his movies, but Hollywood executives focuses too much on big money and profit, by using Big star names! In order, for Universals': Dark Universe series, to become successful, the scripts need to start off as origin stories and period pieces for each character, despite the fact that we all are aware of their origins to begin with! 2nd: The scripts, also, need to be very dark horror stories and leading up to the modern day organization of the London based group Prodigium! And Finally, these movies should be released in the late fall of September and early October prior Halloween yearly! This is why 2017 the Mummy was not successful, it had a great story but was released during the wrong time of the year and went up against, Wonder Woman.

For me, the reason it flopped was that it wasn't Tom Cruse playing a character it was Tom Cruse vs the mummy. Tom was the wrong actor for the movie. The character just came on as an Ass that never got redeemed. He just want likeable. And I couldn't tell if the movie was going for comedy or more serious/scary.
However, I did like something in this movie: the part were the mummy controlled his actions without him realizing it. How he starts to have a vision in one place and wakes up in another and don't know how he got there. Had they played that with a scary angle like he almost killed someone through that and him trying to save people from himself, I think that would have been interesting.
I also think that it would have been more thrilling ) If he got injected with that seth thing rather than him doing it himself. I don't know if I got my thoughts through but I would sum it up with that it has so much potential but fails in almost every way and I think that, that is why I got so disappointed.

Even if this movie had Brendan Fraser and Rachel weiz it would still have failed due to not being set in Egypt and there are two ways a mummy movie will succeed one being it is scary and unique with Brendan fraser and Rachel weiz or two the movie shows a lot of fascinating stuff about ancient Egypt that intrigues the audience with Brendan Fraser and Rachel weiz! Why so much Brendan Fraser and Rachel weiz well this is because the mummy trilogy with the two actors is incomplete and fans love them because they were the actors in the first modern mummy movie trilogy where we got to see real good looks at ancient Egypt and mummys ext!

Now this new twist version of the movie script of (The Mummy) was really good; But I admit that it wasnt great do to the fact it was a bit difficult at times when watching it trying to fallow along with its story in order to better understand what it is all about, and to add what was going on in this movie in order to properly explain the whole entire storyline of it to the audience who were watching it.
Now these are my best descriptive opinions on why this movie wasnt a huge hit at all of the movie theaterss box-officess everywhere when it was once out in all of the movie theaters.

The Brendan Fraser mummy movies are fun and exciting but the new one was not. Even Im Ho Tep was interesting where as the new female mummy was boring. Nearly 20 years later the first Brendan Fraser mummy movie is fun to watch but the new mummy movie isn't worth seeing more than once. Universal keeps dropping the ball on these. Their wolfman remake didn't work at all and the new Dracula movie was just OK. No idea what they are going to do now. Maybe finally do their remake of the 60 year old Creature From The Black Lagoon franchise which they keep having trouble launching.

The mummy needs to be set in the early 1900s (FACT) and needs Brendan Fraser and Rachel weiz it also needs to be mainly set in Egypt (thats why the mummy three failed but not as much as the 2017 mummy because it still had Brendan Fraser) and the 2017 mummy basically took a story already done and tweaked it a little and it also failed because fans will only accept Brendan Fraser and Rachel weiz due to it being the first modern look at the mummy story we got and its an unfinished trilogy which fans want sequels to not remakes with shitty selfish tom cruise!

The movie had the wrong name - I expected a crap movie, it took me a while to get around to watching it but when i did i thought it was great - It was similar to Queen of the Damned, i liked that too
Ahmanete would have been a better title
Whoever decided to call it The Mummy should have been shot - They effectively killed the Dark Universe Franchise off before it got started and i for one, after seeing the film was looking forward to more
The Marketing was the sole problem with this

DCEU may be catching up to the MCU, its far from perfect but at least its fun to watch. The MCU is far from perfect too, but they had 10 years to develop characters and films, they been ahead for awhile. The dark universe feels it was dead on arrival. I did not enjoy watching the Mummy at all. It has no tone and its Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise. Suicide Squad is a guilty pleasure for me. Its fun and it does have (Mostly) great talent in it. It knew the tone it was supposed to have.

I think a good reason is people are SICK AND TIRED of remakes of movies, especially ones that aren't even 20 freaking years old! OR, classics like Poltergeist, Red Dawn, Ghostbusters, Roadhouse, Big Trouble in Little China, etc. I mean REALLY. Perhaps these originals were so successful because of the actors and the chemistry between them? You can't recreate those great guys in Ghostbusters with a bunch of annoying women plus Thor.
