Actually you're wrong - both studios affected by the oppinionated shyte-eater Tom Rothman (head of Fox at that time), didn't wanted Blomkamp, for a multitude of reasons, one been that it was going to be his directorial debut. Neill was Peter Jackson's and Microsoft's choice for a director, especially after Neil did for them the Halo: Landfall three part advert campaign. In the fallout, Jackson basically exited the project, and been pissed off granted Neill a 30 mil startup budget to do a full-size re-imagining of his old short Alive in Joburg, which went by the name District 9. The rest is history. To me, that combo - Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp are still the only choice for a proper Halo movie, if it ever gets done. So gets your facts straight ffs

Wait, they didn't release a Lovecraft movie because it was going to be R rated? Did they completely forget about those older ones like The Reanimator and From Beyond? Anyone who saw those, and is waiting for a good Lovecraftian film, would want to see At the Mountains of Madness. And that's not including fans of Lovecraft's stories. A lot of my parent's friends are teachers and have compilations of his stories.

fox+microsoft wanted blomkamp to make a movie that mirrored watching someone play through the Halo campaign. obviously, that's going to be boring as shit. everything starts with the script, and ends when you can't convince the studio executives that the qualities of that script, the cast, and the crew will draw in audiences.

To whoever is responsible for cancelling the Beatles movie, you have my profound and most gracious thanks. I'm sure it would have been beyond bloody horrible. If you want Lord of the Rings set to music, listen to Led Zep, a REAL band.
So sick and damn tired of those over rated hacks from Liverpool!

It's a no-brainer, someone could make money for decades off of the Halo franchise And the Mountains of Madness sounds interesting too. The others I feel like I didn't really miss anything there. I don't think the technology was really there to make the Beatles Lord of the Rings feasible.

Except the beetles idea it's not 2 late to revive the movies idea's.
Especially now that Sony know how the industry work and also del toro can still come around with an idea.
I'm pretty sure hale movie is inhavedable. like deadlock that the power of the fans made a movie.

At the mountains of madness would have been the most expensive horror movie of all time. They didn't think there would be a large enough audience to make back the money. given that no one has tried again since, it would be difficult to call the decision to cancel dumb.

sounds to me like the beatles' lord of the rings wasn't cancelled for a dumb reason. it sounds like it was cancelled for the best of reasons. it would have probably been awful, and the writer didn't want his work destroyed by that awfulness. makes sense to me.
