Movies That Were Completely Given The Wrong Rating

Movies That Were Completely Given The Wrong Rating Fred: Perhaps I'm just attuned to this because I'm a fan of TOS, but I have NEVER understood how TMP received a G rating. There are several themes and sequences that, IMO, squarely certifies it as a PG (if not PG-13) film. The biggest of these is undoubtedly the transporter accident, where Sonak and another crewmember is deformed into a pile of monstrous goo. The screams are absolutely blood-curdling. While we don't see the final effect of the transmission fault onscreen (though we DO see what's occurring in the transporter beam - another bit of nightmare fuel, we are told that what was returned didn't live long. fortunately. I realize an excuse had to be made to allow Spock to return as science officer, but Good Lord, what an utterly ghastly and un-Trek way to do it. I can't imagine what Robert Wise had on his mind to include such a scene.

You are SO right.
A thirteen year old SHOULD be able to watch By HIMSELF the Wild Bunch scene where someone takes a machine gun to slaughtering vast numbers of Mexicans WITHOUT his parental advisory.
All this just for the company to sell more copies of the film to a wider audience and a wider profit margin.
And when that said thirteen year old borrows his father's hunting gear and brings that same kind of MAYHEM in his school's cafeteria, ALL OF YOU WILL BE ASTONISHED IN DISBELIEF.
You Americans are hilarious.
And pretty worthy of everything that is happening to you nowadays.

The third Hobbit film got very dark and was a bit of a downer. Did they really have to kill everyone? Well nearly everyone. The dwarf with the elf love interest was so cute why did he have to die. Ok the Dwarf kings Heroic Death though sad works but when so many die it makes his sacrifice mean less somehow. Still its the best of the three but they made three movies out of a book which is almost a pamphlet and is a three hour movie or two one and half hour films not three very padded films

Justice League Dark is rated R and is written like a kids movie.
The Bread Winner is rated PG and is written like it was meant for mature audiences.
As for that Bully documentary yes MPAA real middle school kids swear like sailors,
so it's completely absurd that you slap an R for something kids deal with on a
weekly basis!

My best friend is in Bully. Shes one of the friends interviewed/at the memorial at the end of the film. He friend committing suicide was last than a week after one of our friends (she had transferred to a different school the year before) had been killed in a car accident, it was a rough week for us.

Nobody mentioned ET the Extra Terrestrial? On original release it got a G rating. 20 years later Spielberg released a Directors cut which had a small number of child-friendly changes (like the chase scene where the original guns were removed and replaced by flashlights) and it got a PG rating. Crazy.

I gotta say, those extra scenes in BOTFA extended edition really do stand out in how much more gory they are compared to the rest of the film, or even LOTR for that matter! Especially that scene with the trolls getting decapitated. Almost like Peter snuck in a bit of his horror roots.

Bully documentary getting a rating of R is just plain absurd. Basically, they are trying to say the documentary will be watched by adults who have been bullies already instead of the target demographic who it should be shown to in order for them to understand the issue.

What about Scream getting an NC-17 Everytime it went before the board. Wes kept cutting minutes from the film. It wasn't until The Producers sat with the board and told them it was a farce and parody of horror movies, when it got rated R

In the UK many films are ruined because the producers want a 12A certificate so toddlers can go to the movies. Most superhero movies would be better with the 15 certificate so we could have some adult content.
