Johnny in The Karate Kid is a real tear jerker. You have this talented kid that needs martial arts to overcome his hardships and social akwardness. He's a bit shy, encounters a lot of peer pressure, has a longing to be accepted in a group and has a bully as a sensei. He works his way up to the final of a karate tournament and has a good chance of winning until his opponent steals his win with an illegal, dirty move.

I dont know. after working in Pediatric ICU for 30 years I think that there are enough sad endings in real life. Since movies are made up Im thinking they should have happy endings, and
superheroes should never die. Sometimes you just need everything to turn out alright and death to loose. Just saying.
PS
How can a female be a males clone? Not scientifically possible. Oh wait a minute. its make believe!

American History X has in my opinion one of the most devastating and yet most realistic thats life anything could happen endings Ive ever experienced as much as I was sad about Danny I eventually realized that it was fitting shows a teachable moment in that even if you claim redemption it doesnt change your past decisions or those you effected good or bad from coming back

La La Land? Do you get to the theater much? And The Avengers turning to dust. Oh, boo hoo. Try watching Requiem For A Dream and Dancer In The Dark in the theater in the same weekend. Itll plunge you into a depression for weeks. Bambi and Born Free have more emotional gravitas than most of the films on this list. Sorry.

Treadwell got exactly what an uneducated person unable to understand the consequences of his own actions could expect from wildlife. The bears knew what to do. Bears always know what to do. Unfortunately the trophy generation does not. The man couldn't even keep a dog but expected to live with grizzlies. sfi.

Most devastating movie ending would be for the fools who went on a romantic date to a film, thinking it was an adventurous movie about the independent character of the protagonist, his love for freedom love of nature.
Without knowing anything about it beforehand.
Into the Wild (2007)
Datekiller.

Infinity War, devastating ending? Come on. We all knew there would be another one, where characters would be coming back.
That The Green Mile and The Mist weren't included (even in an Honorable Mention fashion) shows how lame this list is.

Wow. Is this list made by a 14yr old? Avengers Infinity war is the most devastating ending in movie history! Avengers is entertaining and silly. One can not have seen many movies to shed a tear by THIS ending. Holy shit man.

The fact that A Star is Born (the 2018 one, yes come for me I wasnt even alive when the original was made) isnt here is heartbreaking. Same with Remember Me. I did NOT expect there to be the 9/11 attack for the ending.
