From their talk at the shed door, Mac knows now that Blair knows he's a Thing.
Blair said, It ain't Fuchs. Meaning, he knows it's Mac.
Blair, being a Thing too, wanted to come back inside to get Mac.
Mac said, Naw. and leaves him locked up.
Mac tells Child's at his post, to burn Blair if he comes back alone.
Mac, Nauls, and Garry go back to the shed to find that Blair is gone already.
(I think Mac left the shed door unlocked so Blair could get out and come after him so Child's could burn him)
Blair went hunting Mac in the other building. (Mac was conveniently at the shed) (He knew)
Child's left his post before Blair got to him.
Blair killed the generator and went and got Nauls and Garry.
When Mac said, Yea, F--- You, Too.
It was just Mac, all pissed off at Blair, the other Thing, trying to trick him.
So, he blew him to smithereens.
(whatever a smithereen is)
SO.
Child's is human.
Mac is a thing.

I'm an old man now, but I remember seeing this movie back as a teenager, and I loved it
then as well as now. The ending was so powerful that nearly forty years later, we still
have theories about it. My interest was renewed after the prequel, and I actually wrote a short
story sequel just for my own pleasure that tied up some of the loose ends that both movies
left us with. I feel that the ambiguous ending worked for the 1982 version because it inspired
all kinds of creative thoughts and speculations. The 2011 version didn't seem that way though.
It felt like they just didn't know where and how to end that one. I hope a talented director gets
a solid script, some competent actors, and a worthy budget to give us the trilogy ending that
true fans of The Thing deserve someday. If not, I still have my short story.

I always found it extremely interesting that when Gary offered Norris the opportunity to take over as the leader, he declined, saying he just wasn't up to. If we go under the assumption that Norris was already The Thing at that point, it makes you wonder why he wouldn't take the opportunity to take the lead which would then give him more of an opportunity to call the shots and maintain control. Is it perhaps that The Thing was intelligent enough to realize that Norris didn't have the personality of a leader and would most likely not have accepted that position when he was still human? Maybe if he had happily accepted the job, it may have been viewed by some as suspicious? If that's the case, it would indicate that the Thing has an even deeper understanding of the victim, including personality types, etc.

It's i because Mcready is the thing and now he gets rescued(in the video game) so that he can infect other people. He didn't infect the other guy because if that guy was a thing it would probably destroy his cover. Or Mcready was infect from the beginning(when they found his broken jacket, because the things might not collaborate with each other, because if they did it might would have blown there cover. So the things might also be paranoid. Some things tried to be sneaky and failed and some things tried to be big and powerful and they failed as well. Mcready was sneaky and succeeded because he was on his own team(not on the humans team and not on the things team.

A Childs/thing needs to breath and would make steamy air. The camera didn't capture his steamy breath, but that doesn't mean Childs wasn't breathing steamy breath in the cold - the camera just didn't capture it. If the Thing takes over a species it becomes that species. It's cells take over the original cells, including internal organs and systems. So if the original being has to breath air, then so does the Thing mimic of it. There's no evidence that the Thing can fine tune and mix and match it's internal systems. If you dumped Childs/Thing into water, it would become a fish, not a Childs that can breath under water.

There are a couple theorys the breath one you can see Childs breath its just the way the scene is shot so thats out.
The gas in the scotch bottle is a good one but you see both bottles get destroyed by Blair so doubtful plus MAC was about to drink before he even noticed Childs.
The main reason I think Childs is a thing is because he takes the bottle from Mac and drinks thats something he would never do after everything hit the fan Childs was paranoid of everyone, and if Mac was a thing that would infect him.

I always thought it was child's that was the thing. Macready always drinks that whiskey through the whole movie, yet they put that flammable liquid in the whiskey bottles. Macready has a bottle in his hand at the end but he never drinks out of it. Gives it to childs and child's drinks out of it then Macready kinda chuckles. Like he just figured it out. So child's didnt realize it was the flammable liquid and not whiskey.

I read somewhere that John Carpenter had a script made for a sequel to The Thing where both Childs and MacReady are both found and taken to MacMurdo station where upon, the thing once again, infects and spreads and Carpenter said that if it got the green light to film, he could also get Keith David and Kurt Russell to reprise their roles by disguising the age in their faces by making them both frostbitten.

Mac was the thing, the first scene with him getting mad at the chess game so was that a way to show he wasn't the smartest one in the group and the only good idea he comes up with is the blood test which i still cant figure out how he did but not the doctor or the scientist? Also we'd have to believe out of everyone there he was the only person the thing tries to frame by tearing up his clothes and
