Dark Phoenix Director Reveals Who Is To Blame For Massive Flop Nikolaia: Kinberg said he takes the blame, but he actually takes the opportunity to blame other factors that contributed to Dark Phoenix' failure. What he didn't say is that he got top-notch actors and ruined their chance to use their chops. He also didn't fess up to the horrible writing and ridiculous idea to basically give the film an indie flavor mixed with superhero action. I agree with other commenters that the Phoenix saga needs a series of films to clearly define her backstory and transformation. Character development is vital. Mystic and Magneto, as well as the rest of the X-men were reduced to supporting characters with not much to contribute. I have always liked the idea behind the creation of X-men. If someone took the reigns and did justice to the Dark Phoenix story, I'd still be willing to give it a watch.

I avoided the movie because (a) I think all the X-Men movies after the second one have been crap, with the third being particularly awful, (b) The trailer was so generic it shouted Nothing to see here (c) the critical reviews were all poor. In fact, having now caught up with the movie on shiny disc, I enjoyed it a whole lot more than every other X-Men movie since the second one. Can; t agree about poor marketing. The movie was everywhere around the time of the release and it looked like Fox were spending a TON to try and rescue what looked like it would be a turkey.

Jean Grey that looks like a Dumpling! Very Round Face! Pugged Nose! But we still hope this movie could be good. Perhaps she could act. But I didn't watch it. It was Feminist Bull Crap. The blonde lesbian mutant picking up Jean Grey in a bar. Then you have Hunger Games starlet with a very Round Face, super Flat Face with no Cheek bones. The worst part of the trailer was when the Hunger Games starlet disrespect Professor X and talks about renaming the Xmen to Xwomen. That was the most disgusting line in movie history.

I just rented this at Redbox for 0. 82 and feel like I overpaid. I almost took it back after the scene when they talked about renaming them X-women.
And why would they make a movie about Phoenix when it was done already? To me it seemed like they were trying to piggyback off the success of GOT. Because there was no buildup up Jean, no buildup of her and Scott's relationship, there was nothing.

Dark Phoenix did 65 million domestic, and 250 million world wide, and charted 33rd out of 634 this year. Call it a flop if you want but Fox is laughing all the way to the bank. I saw it and I liked it, it took a couple of viewings to really connect, but it was a good outing, regardless of what the critics said or wanted!

It's astonishing how these writters/producers/directors tackle a movie they know nothing about, putting 0 effort, half assing a cringey chaotic rendition or a long complex story, I'm really shocked they use all that money to make utter shit then wonder what went wrong

The movie was bad. The story was bad. No character development and in general, the movie sucked. The marketing dept did a good job. i was sick n tired seeing everywhere posters and banners of the film. Don't blame others for your bad choices. That's the awful truth.

Other than the markering, The movie was good 8/10 i rate it, the fighting scenes were kinda brutal which i like, the movie showcased how good these actors are however i wasn't completely satisfied cause of some corny scenes, it wasn't consistent, they can do better.

Tha X-Man time line to me has never been done right. Too many character stories to develop in a a 2 to 3hr film. They should focus on telling smaller stories. Developing a few characters at a time instead of giving us 10+ in one movie

It's sad I grew up dreaming i was a mutant (with bobby's power. The X-men movies were my life when I was a kid. Then Everything was starting to flop after Days of Future Past (i didnt even like this much)
